Aren't all the stories in Star Wars Tales meant to be taken with grain of salt?
Aren't all the stories in Star Wars Tales meant to be taken with grain of salt?
Not the first time, either. ;)

Other movie serials of the era used similar crawls, so I have no idea if Flash did it first or not.

It became a wrist tv in later years as well. Odd that nobody seriously revisited the wristwatch tv concept again after the 80's. The technology wasn't up to snuff at the time, (washed out black and white screen and a wire running up your arm to the tuner) but even kids toys have LCD screens in them now.
I wonder if Leia's is a custom prop, or a modified game watch?
Of course. But in a conversation about such devices just the other day, I mentioned Tracy, and got a blank expression for my trouble. ;)
Troi getting telepathically raped (again!) was in questionable taste.
And B4 was little more than a "get out of jail death free" card. Maybe if it had been Lore, there would have been a little more gravitas to the whole thing? Two evil twins for the price of one.
You nailed it! :)
Criterion titles have always been more expensive. You should have seen their Laserdisc catalog. ;)
Looks like The Enemy of the World and An Adventure in Space and Time have been out in Canada for a while, and Ebay prices are insane. When the heck do we American fans get to buy them?
This apparently is a real product. Mind blown.
Wish I had known about the differences when I spotted what appeared to be off air reel to reel tapes on Ebay a long time back.
Yes, but Anakin actually looks back. (The symmetry between ROTS and Airplane!/Airplane! 2 is spooky.) Pity Ani doesn't give you an opportunity to use Shatner's "I said both hands, dammit!" line.

So should I do it like this to preserve the control tower's reaction to McCroskey jumping out, or cut right after he hits the window so it closer timed to the crash?
Works for me. The "no looking back" line is well timed. :)

Not a bad idea on the atmosphere line.
With the original discussion of Bob's clip, there was lot of support for having Lloyd jump right before the tower is destroyed, including from me. I decided to keep Bob's order when I added Shatner...but your last suggestion gave me an idea. If I have everyone buy it in the tower other than Shatner...instead of Stack's line coming over the radio, how about Force Ghost Stack?
That's going to be one crowded railing on Endor when you get to Jedi! ;)
I never noticed Leia's "wristwatch" before. Kind of looks like those newfangled smart watches hitting the market now.
Now you're making me feel bad about banning them. ;)
Shouldn't your wrath be directed at the people still watching it? Fox isn't keeping on the air out of warm fuzzy nostalgia.
Well, with you know who as Executive Producer, certain things are going to creep in. By and large it's way above the prequels. It won't kill you to DVR the thing, as it's running on Adult Swim in the wee hours on Saturdays. ;)
You're welcome!
More thoughts. As the ship is clearly already in reentry, snip the line from Shatner's aide about that, and come in on "How do you want to play it?"
Also, if you save Lloyd Bridges jumping to right before the control tower gets destroyed, it's slightly more effective. And if you only cut back to Shatner for the rest of the sequence after that, it will imply Stack and company have been added to Anakin's body count. ;)
You can keep them alive by having Stacks lousy landing line come over the radio, if that's too gruesome.
By that logic, you could splice in random shots from the saucer crash in Star Trek Generations. ;)
If you establish TOS bridge sound effects early on with the first Steve scene, you can carry that over into the crash and throw in the classic Red Alert sound when Stack says to sound the crash alarm.
I think you're on the right track with a little tightening up here and there. More Airplane lines could come over the cockpit radio. And Shatner could still be rambling on in the background after the crash.
No Crow breaking the ship in half?
I think using just the Airplane 2 passengers might be better for consistency. And Sonny Bono needs a screen credit. ;)
Also, using the Airplane score throughout the entire sequence would be great, if possible.
Those old wives tales about Kubrick not being a warm human being are mostly poppycock you know. ;)
George was once perceived as a "cold" director post THX 1138.

I wish those scenes that were cut from 2001 had survived.
Always wanted to see the premiere cut.
As for Lucas on 2001 he is simply admiring Kubrick's work.
With his own films he only ever saw the flaws.
Funny that Kubrick thought star wars was trash and wanted to top it with AI which he never of course made.

“If I made as much money as George Lucas, I would not decide to become a studio mogul. I cannot understand why he doesn’t want to direct films anymore, because American Graffiti and even Star Wars were very good.”
