I could live with just the Lucasfilm logo at the front. That's always been part of the experience.
There seem to be a lot of variants on the current Walt Disney Pictures logo tied into the movies they appear in front of, so I suspect they'll make it Star Warsy somehow. Maybe the Bad Robot will be made into a droid?
That was the first LD release back in the day. (Never came out on disc in the U.S.) Not sure why it should still command such a high price now.
Now, this isn't crazy, but I find this kind of auction creepy.
This is someone's memories being sold off. The more I stare at that photo, the more questions I have. Are any of these people still alive? Did they buy their clothes at Sears? Are they still Star Wars fans? Is that a ghost in the window? Is that a glass of beer on top of the tv?

That version reminds me a bit of The Horned King in Disney's The Black Cauldron. One of the most scary villains in a Disney movie, and exhibit A in why I want John Hurt in the sequels. ;)

Probably too early to tell if Disney will let Star Wars go as dark as it needs to be. They might not even put the Disney logo on the new films.

They could also bring in holochrons from the EU, and sidestep the issues of Sith ghosts.
I understand the frustration, however, I would suggest keeping rumor and speculation to a minimum until the members of Team Blu decide to speak on the issue.
Fox can probably reissue the movies as many times as they want so long as they still retain the video rights. (They did new BD/DVD combo packs last year.) Much the same way Spike continues to run the entire saga until their broadcast rights expire later this year.
Whether Fox could release the OOT without Lucas' blessing is unlikely. They might be sitting on some prints, but George has everything else in the vault.
I could see an ancient Sith ruin being haunted perhaps. Yoda said the cave(?) where Luke encountered the apparition of Vader was full of the Dark Side, so there's a precedent for that.
I don't see Sith spirits appearing to people the way Jedi spirits appeared to Luke though.

I don't think anyone has undertaken a preservation project. The only LD release was in Japan, and has burned in subtitles of course.
I've been trying to find a 16mm print for years now. The prints of the the SW and ESB docs Puggo is working on were public library discards, so there's always a chance it and Classic Creatures will pop up.
