It's definately some kind of Alien knockoff. The horrible acting and story kept me from noticing any styrofoam boxes, though. ;-)

Apparently I was thinking of Forbidden World...

It was really funny when the actors got too close to the flimsy walls. Roger Corman's studio cranked out more than one woman being violated by slimy alien creature movie. Because of this, the lead actress in Android was actually pleasantly surprised her character wasn't scripted to have such a scene.

Haven't perused old lots of Betamax tapes on Ebay in a while. They have gotten more expensive. Saw one that had the SWHS in the batch, (sadly over) but other auctions without such rare shows also got into hundred dollar territory. There seems to be more demand for old sporting events and news programs than ever, unless it's some archive with deep pockets going after these.

It's a total crapshoot if the tapes are actually playable, and still have what's written on the label of course.

I was bidding on that lot, but I didn't have a chance to check on it before it ended.  Given what the seller told me when I asked about it, the SWHS tape was likely a second or third gen copy.

I also can't believe the amount some lots are selling for. Either they get bid through the roof or the sellers start the bid at some crazy amount. From my experience I've actually found better recordings in the cheaper lots I've bought than some of the more expensive ones.

Yeah, I presume the old holiday parade in this batch justified the high bids.

I would have liked to get my hands on the ABC broadcast of The Shining that was in there. Jack Nicholson saying "freak" and "freaking" in the tv dub is hilarious.

Go Harrison go! A nice poke in the eye of all the people making sad old geezer jokes elsewhere.

I wonder if they will incorporate his injury into the plot now? The Falcon is too far from a safe harbor to seek a medical droid, so they improvise.

Yeah, I was wondering maybe they'd write a limp or a prosthesis into the script.

I kind of hope not, because I feel like our heroes should be invincible, but you never know.

Because nobody ever got mauled by a Wampa, almost froze to death, and later got their favorite hand chopped off in the OT. ;)

My PBS station stopped airing it around the time the new series started airing on Sci-Fi. I think that deal tied up the rights to the classic series or something like that because I don't think anyone has aired the classic series in the US since the new series started airing on cable.

SciFi actually aired DW in their early days. Even though some Hartnell clips figured prominently in promos when they launched, they started with Tom Baker. (Running five days a week.) The commercial breaks were crude, and the episode recaps added were annoying. I don't think it lasted more than a year before they pulled it, although they did do Who themed weekends later on.

Standalone CD recorder for Laserdisc audio capture?
Time

Current models are no longer limited to "Music only" recordable discs.

Got a Teac recorder new in box pretty cheap on Ebay.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Teac-CD-RW890-Consumer-CD-Recorder-Player-108256876-i3043886.gc

Some Amazon reviews harped on the editing features, but I don't need those. LD's never had any sort of copy protection, so I don't anticipate any problems.

Once I have a capture, how do I determine it's accuracy to the source? Is bit perfect even something the human ear can tell?

The Audio Preservation Thread

Can anyone preserve Dirty Harry original mixes? Mono and stereo. It's on this collection of LDs. The remix is horrible. http://www.lddb.com/search.php?search=dirty+harry&sort=title

I don't think any of them were originally stereo, except for The Dead Pool.

Look at the back of this LD, and there's a tiny "reprocessed for stereo" credit.

Early pan and scan releases might be the best source for the mono, at least for the first film.

Has anything like this come up for sale before?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/35mm-Film-STAR-TREK-ORIGINAL-RAW-FOOTAGE-FROM-The-Galileo-Seven-Hollywood-Estate-/281371576668?pt=US_Film&hash=item41830d895c

I've never seen anything like this. However, it's odd that it has shots from Galileo Seven and The Changeling, since they were filmed a year apart.

Having looked at the description again, the logo of the Westheimer Company appears on the leader. They were one of the optical FX houses that regularly worked on the series. It could be a demo reel for the man whose estate the reel came from.

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)

I own 70mm SW frames, and guess what? Rounded corners. Puggo's 16mm preservations have them too. Can't recall even a peep about that.

This could easily rival the Barry Lyndon aspect ratio controversy, if we let it. (Google it.) This will only derail the thread, and lead to hurt feelings. Please, take the high road for a change.
