Is anybody else shooting in 48fps currently?
Is anybody else shooting in 48fps currently?
It's been done. ;)
Aside from random bits on tv, I'd never watched a whole Bay film until The Island. (The things I do for Frink!) I still have a sealed HD DVD copy of Transformers lying in a drawer like some Pandora's Box.
When Criterion came out with editions of The Rock and Armageddon on Laserdisc, there was a bit of a fuss as some people thought those films were unworthy of the label. Armageddon was the last LD Criterion released.
Might be the no script plugin I use causing problems. It's a little too paranoid with some sites.
Did they stiff old school fans on the dinobots as I've heard?
Funny you should mention axe cop, I only stumbled on the cartoon late last night on tv, and had no clue what the hell I was watching. ;)
Is there a comic con or swap meet you could perhaps get a space/table at? I sold the bulk of my collection to a local comic book shop owner, but that was back in the 90's.
There are several sites devoted to Star Wars toys like Rebelscum, that may have good selling info in their forums, or people looking to buy out a collection.
It might be prudent to wait until Episode 7 comes out, and the mania for everything Star Wars returns.
Huh, Firefox doesn't seem to like postimage very much. It works in IE though. Weird!
He's a tough old smuggler for sure.
I'd bet the saga of Harrison's leg becomes a bonus feature on the Blu Ray.
This Pip fellow is most impressive! I hope the new blood knows what they're getting into! For good or ill, Star Wars is going to be a big chunk of their lives for years to come.
Glad to hear Harrison is on the mend. The whole thing was looking kind of bleak just a few weeks ago.
They haven't teased us with any photos lately. We're overdue. ;)
Harmy, the second image is coming up broken.
The excellent documentary Men In Suits made it sound like Hollywood was getting back to doing practical creatures, but CGI is like the Dark Side of the Force sometimes.
Hayden made this after AOTC, but it was released first, so it was interesting to hear him talk about playing Anakin before anyone saw the movie.
As he's beating up those thugs with a broomstick, (they could owe Palpatine money, or it's a company that makes sand) how hard would it be for someone to make it into a lightsaber? (Bob Garcia, where are you?) Or just dub the saber sound FX into it.
Life as a House was a tough one for me on account of the major plot point, but Hayden is pretty good in it. And he looks like a teen goth sith for the first half. If not for the talent involved, it would be a Lifetime cable tv movie or something. Hayden sat down for some of the extras, so be sure to check those out and the deleted scenes.

Wasn't there a thread about Vader's floating glass of water in the original drafts for Star Wars, which made it into a comic adaptation? Basically the guy can't even be bothered to hold his own cup--it's the very definition of frivolous use of the Force.
We'll never know exactly why that wasn't filmed, but I like to think part of it was that in the early days, Lucas accepted criticism and when people told him something was idiotic and unnecessary, he didn't do it. Now we have three complete idiotic and unnecessary films, so yeah, frivolous use of the Force comes right along with that.
IIRC, it's in the novel, and merely illustrates his mastery of The Force, before choking Admiral Motti of course. He summons the cup into his hand. I never thought it frivolous.

I think when it came time to shoot, they probably decided there was just was no way to make a guy in a scary mask drink from a cup, and not look silly...

Can it be that Kevin Smith is becoming one of us? This is the fellow who mostly praised the prequels at the time.
That one bit of set we did see under construction gave me a strong Death Star II vibe, but it could just be a hangar that's been around since the Empire.
And two can play at that game! The new villain revealed! Not!

It's from the new Mad Max movie, but you probably didn't read this far. ;)
That can't possibly be an official exhibit. It's a random assemblage of fan costumes and collectibles. I see one of those giant Falcons that used to hang in Toys R Us, and a Hasbro Dewback. And why is a NASA spacesuit there?
On the plus side, someone was clearly inspired by Frink to actually make a Nute Gunray costume.
And now we know that Chewie got really drunk that night on Endor.

The only cure is to watch the real Transformers movie from the 80's. ;)
You're right.
True, but that bit of info made it into the pages of Starlog at the time. Along with speculation she was Spock's daughter, possibly conceived during the events of The Enterprise Incident. Star Trek III throws this idea under the moon shuttle of course. ;)
I suspect Khan baby got the ax because it was a little too dark, even for 1982. Some people think Joachim was Khan's son, even though there was a character by that name in Space Seed.
If he says it after the Vader mask goes on, you can distort the heck out of it. ;)

Star Trek reruns seemed even more randomly ordered in the 70's, although this created the impression the bridge crew rotated more often. To be fair, they were originally aired in a pretty random order as episodes were completed.
Yes, but it aired five nights a week in syndication. You could see a third season episode one night, and a season one the next. I don't think they aired in any sort of order until the early 80's.
The 80's syndication masters were a bit sloppy too. The opening teaser for The Doomsday Machine sounded like it was playing a half second slow. Kirk and company sounded like they had been hitting the Saurian Brandy, if you know what I mean. I don't think that got fixed until the Sci Fi channel airings.
But...but...I put a post-it note with the time index on the box, so you didn't have to watch the whole thing!
Couldn't Hayden's "don't let this one die a virgin" line be shifted in pitch, to sound like post puberty Hayden?
Scotty's grief over Ensign Prestion makes more sense when you know it's his nephew. Saavik's emotional side makes more sense when you know she's half Romulan.
I'm not saying a movie is better for being longer. There are plenty of films with ridiculous amounts of padding. (TWOK might have only been a few minutes longer with those character bits intact.) There are plenty of films that have arguably been ruined, because the only mandate was one from the suits in the front office to make it shorter, not trim the fat.
If you've ever seen the ABC tv version, TWOK lost scenes here and there. Important character details were sacrificed for the sake of a leaner running time that would have only added to the film.
