@analog - Ugh, yeah...I hate that Promotions tab crap.  If you have a MySpleen account, one of the guys here made a DVD5 version that you can just download and burn.

EDIT: Removed link. (He probably already read it/clicked it anyways..  :)

Don't do that again. Please review the rules.

Beneath its veneer of good music, this is the story of Grease in a nutshell:

"I like you, Sandy, and you like me. Perhaps this could be the beginning of something beautiful!"

"Oh, but you're a wholesome, clean, all-Australian girl and I'm a greasy nogoodnik who hangs out with a bunch of juvenile delinquents! (Emphasis on juvenile.)"

"Time to put on my asshole face and treat you like shit. After all, I can't let the guys know I like girls like you."

"I like Danny, and I know that under the PRICKly exterior he's a pretty nice guy, but nothing is working out between us. What should I do?"

"Me and my girlfriends are going to mock you and beat you down until you get with the program, bitch!"

"I understand now! In order to be together, Danny and I don't need to respect one another's differences and love each other for who we are. I just need to ..."

"... change into a skank who wears leather and sucks carcinogenic toxins into her lungs."

"Watch us drive away into a future of unwanted pregnancy, mutual loathing, adultery, alcoholism, and possibly spousal abuse."

 LOL!

A few weeks ago my little sister who is 14 went to a sleep over party at a friends house and she came back complaining about this movie they watched that all the girls and the parents thought was so romantic,it took me a few minutes but I finally figured out she was talking about Grease.  She complained that she was the only person there who hated it and her reasons were the exact same ones you just listed!:)

Talk about a small world.

Perhaps some people take the movie too seriously? Hot rods do not go flying off into the sky in real life. ;)

On a side note, would there be any interest in a preservation of this?

This aired on HBO many times in the early 80's. The production values were pretty good for the era, and the plot of the movie was expanded a bit. AFAIK, there has never been a DVD release.

That had to be on purpose. I imagine slipping something past the censors was a way to cope with the grind of making a tv show. My classmates in college would stick suspicious sounding names into the credits of the boring public access cable shows we slaved on.

Star Trek snuck a couple things by as well.

You may also want to check out the complete live action PotA television series. It's on the production scale of Battle, but the writing is not bad at all.

Also worth mentioning, when Charton Heston hosted SNL in the 90's, the show went ape. ;)

4K restoration on Star Wars

Well, Star Wars was sold on all the old technology when it was still "cutting edge". If I remember right, Star Wars was on tape pretty early, as well as beta, and then laserdisc as well. It wasn't until George got weird that Star Wars got so horribly delayed with new formats, like not being released on DVD until F'ing 2004! Same with not being on blu ray until what, late 2011? Now that competent business people are running Star Wars I see no reason why Star Wars wouldn't be one of the first titles on a new home video format.

Star Wars was what they would call a "format seller". People bought their video format of choice just so they could watch the movie at home. RCA even gave the movie away for free, if you bought a CED Videodisc player.

How they hell did this turn out so great?

The guy who directed this wrote three horrible scripts the two scooby doo movies and the dawn of the dead remake.

The last film he created, wrote and Directed was 2010's fantastic 'Super', that's how ;-)

The Footloose reference in the movie suddenly makes more sense. ;)

I need to find a copy of this now.

Yeah, the Scooby movie was on Cartoon Network last weekend, and I did a double take when I saw Gunn's credit. Turns out he did stuff for Troma even.

You can't always predict what someone will achieve based on their past work. If somebody had told me back in the early 90's the director of Bad Taste and Meet The Feebles would go on make the LOTR trilogy, I would have had my doubts. ;)

Movie scripts are frequently rewritten by other people though. Unions and studio politics often dictate who gets final credit, or blame.

When the Emperor reveals the fully armed and operational battle station, he could say "Fire at Commander Will!", then cut to Will Riker on the bridge of the Enterprise just before the laser fires destroying the ship.

That's what goes through my mind every time somebody says "Fire at will!" in a movie. ;)

This could make good use of the Enterprise D destruction in Generations. Then the saucer section crashes on Endor.
