Oh yeah, the soundtrack is still stuck in my head on a loop...
Oh yeah, the soundtrack is still stuck in my head on a loop...
I know, right? I was a fan from the original comics, but I love the little furry bastard even more now.
It's the little quiet moments that get to me too.
Rocket all wet after the prison wash down, where Quill glimpses all the stuff that's been done to his body. It gives his drunken anguish over his existence later even more weight.
Rocket sobbing over Groot's remains, and Drax just quietly sits next to him, and starts petting him softly.
I don't think even Star Wars made me want to cry. Damn you, James Gunn! ;)
Given how the ESB Falcon was left to rot after Jedi, seeing her recreated makes me happy.
Hopefully, Disney will preserve this one, and put her in one of the theme parks someday.
If the Marvel comic was going off a description in the script, Ben's death might have been pretty disturbing.

Perhaps the old x-wings were already just that - old - at the battle of Yavin? It would make sense that a rag tag band of rebels fighting the government doesn't have access to the latest and greatest military technology and instead has to scrounge whatever old junk they can get their hands on.
I'm not disagreeing with you in the fact that I, too, would love to see the classic x-wings in some capacity alongside the new ones. I'm just pointing out that there are some very valid counter arguments to your reasoning and that the new x wings do have a reasonable explanation using "real world" logic.
You seem to be saying that their appearance should remain unchanged in the thirty or so years between the OT and episode 7 b/c that's what happens to aircraft in the real world. I'm saying that, one: that's not entirely accurate and aircraft (commercial and military) DO have significant modifications to their appearance over time - even if the old models are still hanging around when the new ones come out; and two: you're implying by your first assumption that the rebels' ships in the OT were relatively new which I think is a very poor and illogical assumption for the reasons I already stated and this is backed up by the fact that they look freaking old, beat up, and worn out already at the battle of Yavin.
I love the original x-wing and really hope to see it onscreen again. When the new x-wing was revealed I was a bit disappointed at first. But having this conversation has made me realize that it actually makes much more sense to have new and updated x-wings than to have the same old ships still hanging around in large numbers. And so now I'm actually warming up to the new design quite a bit. But I hope maybe Luke at least still flys the same old ship he blew the Death Star to bits with! I mean, who would get rid of that ride after something like that!?
Well, if he didn't leave the keys in the cockpit after leaving Cloud City in the Falcon, anything is possible. ;)

Seriously. We haven't even seen the first episode of this; we have no idea how dark it'll be. The Clone Wars was a pretty light series and even it had some very dark moments.
Humdingers has the right mindset here.
You may be right. I could be suffering from perception bias. I've been trying to think of any Disney animations and movies that have explored dark themes or had dark moments. I keep coming up blank. They do have a reputation for presenting the cute and fluffy in a mostly lighthearted, non-threatening, and non-scary way. They also have a habit of sanitizing out the violence. And if the characters break into song they totally lose me. I am sure there must be exceptions. Maybe others can enlighten me with some examples.
Look no further than Disney's first PG rated animated film.

There were gruesome scenes cut from the finale before it was even released.

I think not.

I get the impression preserving those dubs wasn't a priority for Japanese studios. On a few DVD's I have, the English dubs tend to sound like they were lifted off an old VHS or something.

Actually, not only is the Mary Poppins BD not badly cropped like the DVD, it also doesn't suffer from DNR and the color is much more correct and pleasing.
It's definitely a new master.
There was quite a bit of discussion over at the HTF that the animated sequences did have DNR.

Since when have there been English dubs of Kurosawa films?
Since when they were fist released in the states you pretentious schmucks. I thought this crowd cared about alternate versions and such.
I've honestly never seen any with an English dub. They must be lost to time.
And who are you calling a schmuck?
It's not wise to recast a Wookiee. ;)
It would be a nice gesture for Lucasfilm to allow Prowse to appear at celebration again. I suspect his banishment mostly was George's doing.
You're going to be knee deep in ghosts by the end of Jedi. ;)

He actually runs out of the room in the ROTS videogame, and locks the door behind him. (Which sets up a level where Anakin takes out his shuttle.)

If you don't think the game cutscene video is useable, maybe the audio combined with your usual bag of editorial tricks can keep Nute alive to plague the OT. ;)
Would be nice if they gave him a bit part as an alien or something.
Anthony Daniels got to be seen out of suit as another character in AOTC.
So, no dramatic death, (or escape) for Nute?
2-D cutout X-Wings to fill out the background.
Nice to see the old school stuff still works in 2014. :)
You need special decoder glasses to see the OP. ;)
You'd think they could make an Artoo that Baker could drive with video monitors inside the head now.
Even the radio controlled droids on the prequels occasionally went rogue.

I can't help but wonder how Batman '89 would have turned out if this guy
had played the Joker throughout the entire movie. Physically, he's more like the character from the comics than Nicholson was.
I want to see him airbrushed into the photo from the end of The Shining for some reason. ;)
It's been done. ;)

"That's it! The Rebels are there."
I am really liking what I see in all these sneak pics - from the underground hangers to the "Harley-Davidson style" X-Wing to the Rebel extras - but I'm also feeling really bad for JJ and the team. It's gotta be annoying to them. It feels like ever since it's been known where they're currently filming, all of a sudden several others are making effort to fly over or on foot to capture ANY thing. I bet many Bothan spies have died already.
We're in a different world than even the prequels were made in. Cameras are everywhere now. Going on location is a gamble.
There were similar leaks on the Trek films.
