Foundation coming to HBO!!!!!
Time

I was referring the the original 1983 V actually. Or course Independence Day also did giant saucers hovering over major cities. ;)

I could have sworn some other property has done aliens that resemble/indirectly inspired humanity's image of Satan. (Maybe it was Babylon 5?) The animated Star Trek also used the concept. Pretty heavy stuff for early 70's Saturday morning tv!

I read Childhood's End back in high school. It probably could work as a miniseries, but 2001 and even V may have taken away some of it's potential visual impact.

Speaking of Arthur C. Clarke...

I wonder if they could bring Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood back and digitally de-age them ala Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy? Douglas Rain is still around, but doesn't seem to have done anything since 2007. Recasting Hal would be daunting.

Strange Magic - Lucasfilm's New Upcoming Animated Film!
Time

Interesting. (That still looks like a frame from a CGI direct to video sequel to The Dark Crystal.) But when is Lucasfilm going to give their first animated feature some Blu Ray love?

I still have the invitation to an L.A. screening I got as a member of the original SW fan club. Pity I couldn't get anyone to take me.

Anyone else blase' about the New trilogy?
Time

Yeah, the subtle personal attacks slipped by me. I had a migraine all day yesterday. :/

Let's review the rules, for those who need reminding...

Any further lapses in polite behavior will result in warnings. Warnings lead to bans. This means you.

What prequel movies?

:p

Also to add to what was said, I only started thinking about the first movie as "Star Wars" when i started lurking on these forums. It does feel odd when I read people referring it as "A New Hope"

Yeah, given that that's what it's been called since 1980 I can imagine it would feel odd. Again, if you're really, really compromised in the mental department.

1981, and only on the opening crawl. None of the reissue posters call it that, and none of the early video releases do either. Even the Special Edition didn't use it on the posters.

Do the Star Wars movies contain evidence that Lucas makes it up as he goes?

Nothing beats Star Wars fans (well, some of them anyway) for fixating on the age-old tradition of revisionism.

What? He didn't have the whole thing mapped out from the start? Oh, no, my world has ended.

Wake up and smell the proverbial; none of this is new or revolutionary - even Tolkien went back and revised The Hobbit to fit in with The Lord Of The Rings.

Oh, and one more thing. Someone referred to Gary Kurtz as a father. No he's not; he's a mother.

Tolkien didn't send out an order to have all those old copies of the book destroyed. Lucas has done so with regards to 35mm prints.

Sorry to hear Gary Kurtz whizzed in your coffee. ;)

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

The fact that Weisman left after the first season suggests to me that there's a fair amount of executive meddling going on with this series. I can't comment on a shift in tone, as I haven't seen enough of the show yet, but what Easterhay suggests above would not surprise me at all.

They have the entire first season in the can already? Wow.

Has Weisman said anything about it? He was pretty open with the Gargoyles fandom online, so I can't imagine him keeping quiet.

Last web series/tv show seen
Time

I never knew the reason O'Hare left the show, perhaps it wasn't openly discussed at the time? At least his character arc got wrapped up later.

There was a lot of behind the scenes drama during the fourth season, mainly with the outfit actually syndicating the show. That put pressure on to wrap things up. The final episode was actually filmed in season 4, but held back when the last minute reprieve came, and the show moved to TNT on cable. (One reason why season 5 feels like padding.) TNT would later meddle too much on the sequel series Crusade.

I'm still disappointed Garibaldi never got revenge on Bester. They should have at least done that in one of the tv movies.

If you want to have a surreal experience, you have to see the low budget sci fi film, Arena. It plays like a B5/DS9 crossover episode, with actors from both shows. Probably helps I first saw it about three in the morning on TNT, when both series were still airing. ;)

YouTube/Vimeo/etc... Star Wars video finds
Time

Not surprised to see George pimping early HD gear. And that S-VHS deck looked similar to the AG-1980, which more than a few of us own around here.

I wonder if that was the original Jabba puppet before it's latex skin disintegrated?

Frink has got to find a way to use that shot of Lucas walking hand in hand with Ewoks in a sunny field! ;)
