Some of it was adding effects for the 3-D release, which may never see the light of day outside Celebration if they show them there at all.
But still a nice acknowledgement of Trek’s then emerging cult popularity, Nielsen ratings be damned.

Holy crap, I never noticed him either. The voice should have been a dead giveaway. As Lucas was influenced by Thunderbirds (in which Rimmer voiced Scott Tracy) for the look of The Clone Wars, the circle is now complete!
This also makes the Thunderbirds gag I contributed to Frink’s Episode III edit even sweeter. 😉
Has anything further come from this project, or are there any other similar projects? At this point a 35mm fan-preservation in 1080 is, for me, the OriginalTrilogy holy grail, simply because I think Star Wars will eventually get a hi-def official release at some point, but it’s no guarantee THX 1138 will ever be restored to what it was, and I’d love to be able to put that original version of this movie on in a resolution better than Laserdisc.
One of the top men involved has had medical and family issues to deal with recently. Work will resume eventually. I need to get a 16mm tv spot for THX out to them to get scanned.
Going into this trilogy I had a small hope that Lucas secretly shot footage during Return of the Jedi for a potential ST that would be used in these films, to take us by complete surprise.

I have wondered if he somehow slipped into the identity of someone who actually was a hermit named Ben, who may have died unbeknownst to the locals, and had very little contact with anyway, and had a cozy little hovel beyond the Dune Sea. 😃
If the real Ben was killed by Tusken Raiders, it would add a dimension to how they freak out when Kenobi appears waving his arms and making scary noises.
IIRC, the novel mentioned he could speak the Wookiee language like a native. He certainly seems to be conversing with Chewie at the bar. I don’t see how he could run into Chewie prior to ANH and not encounter Solo though. Other Wooks are possible. Always wanted to see more of Tarrful.
Ben’s familiarity with Mos Eisely means he must have spent some time there or visited frequently. The Cantina is a perfect venue for other characters who are just passing through to appear. I’ve imagined Ben hitting an emotional low point early in his exile and perhaps drinking a little too much.

An episode or two focusing on Beru and Owen and the perils of moisture farming might be interesting.
If the series covers the middle years of Obi Wan’s exile we’d get Luke and possibly Biggs as kids. I’m sure those two got into all sorts of trouble. Maybe we’d even see Watto at some point.

Imagine if Ep 3 ended with Anakin and Obi-Wan stopping Dooku and saving the Chancellor. Anakin then learns he will have kids, and (we falsely assume) they all live happily ever after!
That would have preserved a little mystery for people going into OT for the first time.
Clearly some of us do, or this site has little reason to exist anymore.

The bulk of Star Tours was invented for the ride, and nobody ever seemed to complain that we didn’t see Starspeeders in the movies. And yes, I know they finally made an appearance in Rebels three decades later.
Seeing that The Black Hole finally got a Blu-Ray release last month exclusively through the Disney Movie Club, I wonder if they might take this route with the OUT?
