4K restoration on Star Wars

“Did it stop Ridley Scott from remastering those cuts and releasing them together?? Nope”

The difference here is that Ridley Scott wanted to do it, whereas George Lucas and Kennedy actively don’t want it to happen.

It would have made perfect sense to have the BD boxset include the OUT if it was a matter of it being slightly more profitable to do so.

"Another example is how a few years ago Kino released a cut of the silent film Metropolis with restored footage not seen since the original release. "
I was involved with the Kino release, the restoration cost was bugger all and there were no royalties to be paid. Prints were borrowed from collectors, it was a simple, quick money grab that only had to move a few units to be profitable, and not a single person out there that didn’t want it to happen. Again totally different situation to the OUT.

Companies suck, for Disney to care about something, it has to be worth many, many millions for them to bother. If an SE 4K release would make $300 million or $305 million by taking the risk of packing in an OUT, then they would never take the risk. $5 million return is pocket change, and a risk is always a risk. It will cost them millions to restore the OUT, even with having the scans in place, the sound restoration on SW for the SE cost $8 million alone.

I want it to happen, but can’t conceive of a universe where it will happen in the next ten years.

There are a ton of LFL people at Siggraph this year, I’ll be canvassing all of them, and already know quite a few, but I am pretty sure the answer will be the same as that from the ones I have already spoken to. Not a ‘maybe’ or a ‘no’ or a ‘no comment’ but a ‘huh?’

They also released the 80’s Giorgio Moroder version, much to my surprise. I never thought I’d be able to retire my Laserdisc copy.

Do LFL people skew younger or something these days? Just wondering if they’ve all grown up with the SE’s and just don’t know the originals.

I get the impression most of the “old school” ILM’ers have retired or moved on. Was astonished to see John Dykstra had a credit on Kong: Skull Island.

Didn’t know they had ever done any Fox titles.

It all depends on how much Disney/Lucasfilm cares about the OOT. If they don’t see a niche label release competing with their own SE trilogy releases, they might be okay with it. There were standard Laserdiscs and DVD’s of Armageddon and The Rock concurrent with the Criterion releases.
Criterion doesn’t really advertise beyond it’s devoted fanbase, and you don’t see their titles for sale at Walmart.

You have to really be a dumbass and pathetic human being to be upset about an all-women’s screening of Wonder Woman. Grow up and grow a pair and be a ****ing man.

Haha yeah just like all those dumb bitches upset about not being able to golf at the hoity-toity country club amirite??? Or those gays all whiny about not getting cake??? They need to man up too!

You’re not seriously making that comparison?

Interesting how nobody has their face as an avatar here.

Also interesting how imperialscum always rails against redundancy in language and preaches how language evolves but still uses spellings of words with unnecessary extra vowels.

None of us want to be recognized in public, and we certainly don’t want George showing up on our front door, flanked by the robot cops from THX. 😉

There was a time when it wasn’t exactly cool to admit liking the 60’s show, (especially around the time of the 1989 film) so it was gratifying to see people acknowledge it’s place in Batman history, and Adam West embark on a whole second career after too many years of being typecast.
Family Guy was never my cup of tea, but I always thought West’s mayor character was hilarious.

He also appeared a few times on a dumb cartoon from the time of my childhood as Catman, or rather an aging actor who used to play Catman, before eventually becoming the character. The rest of the show doesn’t hold up well, but his appearances do.

I sort of remember that. He and Burt Ward voiced one of the Filmation Batman series in the 70’s.
Adam returned to Batman again in the very last season of Superfriends in the mid 80’s, by then retitled The Super Powers Team:Galactic Guardians. He played Batman totally straight in that and was terrific. An episode revolving around crime alley, (where Wayne’s parents died) was especially good for a Saturday morning cartoon, probably because it was penned by a future writer of the 90’s series.

Damn. This one hurts. There have been many caped crusaders, but he was my Batman. I was thrilled when he voiced the Gray Ghost on the 90’s animated Batman. I saw the Return Of The Caped Crusaders movie on the big screen last year, and for two hours I was a little kid again.

Warners supposedly had a sequel on the fast track, so I hope they already had finished recording dialog with him.

Why ? Without the OT there can be no PT (and most PT fans I know are just SW fans, they love every single movie… but they still think the OT to be superior 😃).

(and the most interesting subforum of this site is the one devoted to fanedits, especially PT fanedits)

You’ve obviously never shouted Go Packers! in a room full of fans of the opposite team. 😉

a shame Mr Buckethead ‘only’ managed 249 votes vs Theresa May in Maidenhead - though he is now free for panto and Dr Who appearances 😉

^ just for clarity - Lord Buckethead is in the black suit, just to the right of the emotionless robot with views from another world in the red suit.

Your lunatic fringe candidates are way more fun than ours.

Lord Buckethead looks like the Black Knight from Holy Grail and Darth Vader’s love child.

😄 'Tis only a scratch 😉

Elmo from the Muppets was also there - sadly he only got 3 votes.

The real Elmo? I knew he was evil. It was a dark day on Sesame St. when he took over the show and stole the limelight away from my beloved Grover.

If you like the prequels, that’s cool. It can be a little awkward on a site devoted to the original films, but no worse than being in a sports bar devoted to the team you’re not pulling for.
There are parts of Episode III that I enjoy. I saw the darn thing three times in theaters. 😉

There have to be some prequel fans who liked the original theatrical versions who feel our pain these days.
