It amuses me that you can shoot a whole movie on an iPhone now and it will look better and have a higher resolution than the prequels ever will.

It is amazing but I just watched the trailer. It looks like it was recorded on a camera phone (not great). Perhaps that’s what they were aiming for considering the subject of the movie.

There’s a certain novelty to it. For far less than the cost of a Hollywood movie camera, one can shoot with a DSLR these days and get professional results. There are already 4K camcorders on the market.

We’re on 2.0 with the prequels already. 😉
AOTC and ROTS will still be stuck in 1080p forever since they weren’t shot on film.

I’m out of the loop… 2.0?

2.0 as in like a software update. Lucas seems to treat his movies like computer software. All three films have been altered since they were in theaters. TPM theatrical cut only came out on VHS and Laserdisc. Creepy Puppet Yoda™ was replaced with CGI for the Blu-Ray. AOTC and ROTS have had less obvious changes but they’re there.

The purple hair is a blatant ignoring of the rules of the Star Wars universe that Lucas has carefully crafted over the course of 35 years.

Think about it. Lucas threw all sorts of weird stuff at us, including spherical space stations, green aliens with horns, 10ft tall slugs, 1000 degree swords and dozens of alien planets, but he never, EVER shoved humans with weird hair colors down our throats.

The Last Jedi payed homage to so many parts of Lucas’ original work, but they completely ruined it by having this one character with a very outstanding characteristic in marked contrast with everything else the series ever had up until then. That was for me the primary reason this character had to go completely. It had nothing to do with her gender, or the fact she didn’t tell Poe the plan (although that was pretty stupid). If she hadn’t had purple hair, I probably would have allowed her to stay in the film with her lightspeed suicide.

Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **

So I guess since this is the spoiler thread we can simply talk about it whenever it’s out?

I figured I’d ask in advance this time, since Solo, like TLJ, will be released in Norway/Scandinavia on May 23, a few days before most people here will have a chance to see it.

Then again, I guess there really isn’t that much to spoil for a Solo prequel film.

Chewbacca love scene 😛

I don’t know. VHS and Beta Hi-Fi both had pretty good dynamic range. They can rival analog Laserdisc tracks in fidelity.
The VHS filter effects I see are often more glitch ridden than a real videotape ever was. The biggest mistake I see when someone is trying make a video look vintage is they still shoot 16:9. There were some 16:9 camcorders in the mid 90’s but not many.

That’s why I prefer “fup ur.” People who aren’t us have no idea what it means.

When I was in the 5th grade, randomly yelling faagoo!, at each other was fashionable. (I’m guessing at the spelling based on how it sounded.) The faculty was either much too square to realize what it meant, or just was waiting for it to run it’s course. Elementary school was weird.

There is meaningful discussion to be had about the Parkland kids, but it appears that much of the right isn’t interested in having that discussion. Day after day, it’s these disgusting memes about how the Parkland kids are Nazis, or wimps, or tidepod eaters, or just “too young to understand politics.” And now the people who are actually serious about politics and not just “memers” are afraid to address the points that are being made because they don’t want to be lumped in with the aforementioned sickos. And, straight up, fuck anyone who peddles that crisis actor bullshit. They don’t deserve to be engaged with on any level.

Wait, I thought Nazis were back in vogue?

Last Jedi’s got some problems. (though I’d argue relatively minor)

Exactly one problem.

I thought you vowed to not see that movie.

I haven’t.

I don’t know where you’ve gotten the idea that Duracell has seen TLJ.

He said that it was beyond perfection.

Ah. I took that as sarcasm.
I still do. Could be wrong.

I’m 100% certain it was sarcasm. He hates what they did with the characters so he definitely wouldn’t like it if he did see it.

I was being sarcastic indeed. In fact, I was making fun of people like fmalover, who act like TLJ was handed down from God Themself.

TLJ remains on my anti-watchlist and will remain there, along with The Dark Knight Rises, the Snyderman films, and any other movies which present unappealing “alternative interpretations” of beloved characters.

You have your own kind of ignorant thinking

Good.

Lol.

Not as LOL-worthy as hating a director after having seen a single one of his films, I’d wager.

Assuming you’re talking about David Lynch, one film is more than zero.

I thought it was two but it turns out he didn’t do Naked Lunch. :p

I believe you have to watch at least four of a filmmaker’s films before drawing a conclusion on his work as a whole, but that’s just me.

I believe you have to watch a single movie before drawing a conclusion on that movie, but that’s just me.

I haven’t drawn any conclusion on TLJ beyond that the story holds no appeal for me. If you want to go ahead and interpret that as meaning “TLJ is shit, Rian Johnson’s an asshole, etc.”, by all means do so, but it isn’t an accurate representation of my thoughts at all.

You haven’t seen the movie and yet you’re bitching at how a “beloved character was interpreted.”

So, sure, why not.

I don’t need to see Man of Steel to know that Jonathan Kent tells Clark that it’s alright to let people die if it’s in Clark’s best interests. That version of Jonathan is wholly unlike the Jonathan Kent I’ve come to know in both the comics, prior movies, and TV shows, the Jonathan who taught Clark to do his very best to help humanity. That bit of characterization, combined with other elements of the movie I’ve been exposed to through trailers/screencaps/reviews/etc., have left me with the impression that MOS isn’t a movie I want to see. Does that mean I believe it’s automatically a bad film? No. But it’s not a film that I, as a Superman fan, influenced by Superman stories with an opposing aesthetic and message, have any interest in seeing.

Hey asshole, knock it off. Man of Steel is my favorite movie and if you don’t like it, then you just need to get silenced by force in my opinion.

Why don’t you knock it off as well? Warning for personal attack.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **

Lucas mined the pop culture of his hot rodding teenage years for AG, and the movie serials of his youth for Flash Gordon and Raiders. A lot of Raiders is outright borrowed from an almost forgotten 1954 Chuck Heston movie Secret Of The Incas, that’s curiously never even had a legit VHS release let alone a DVD. You’d think Paramount could clean up selling it as inspiring Indiana Jones.
