‘Former Trump aide approved ‘black ops’ to help Ukraine president’…

Paul Manafort authorised secret media operation that sought to discredit key opponent of then Ukrainian president

I find it ridiculous to refer to a media campaign as “black ops.”

Psy-op then?

Yeah, these things don’t have to built like Laserdisc players or a VCR even. I lament current players tend to look really generic and ugly these days. If you took the names off, could you tell who made it?

Sony has a distinct style, but other than that I agree.

The one player I really want is this:

That’s all you ever need.

Still holding out for a Betamax combo from Sony. 😛

  1. What’s an Oppo?

But in any case, I don’t use physical media players much these days anyways.

You can if the player is a game console. 😉

But anyway, that HDDVD player is enormous. So footprint. Very waste.

Dude, it’s from over ten years ago. My first generation Blu Ray player had the same footprint as my Laserdisc player does. In fact, it had the same dimensions as a Sony LD player I once owned. (Early 1st gen DVD players were also huge and had cooling fans.) My other two HD-DVD players have sleeker profiles but they are second generation or so. And some of us like stacking components, so a certain width is preferred. If players get any smaller a puff of wind will knock them off a shelf. 😉

Every company used to have a style. I’ve wanted the rare RCA HD-DVD player because it amazingly resembles the silver and black family RCA VCR of my youth.

The fan noise would probably drive me insane though. 😉

I wonder if they even considered prosthetic makeup just for that shot? Or finding a Jeff Bridges double. Still not sure how GOTG2 pulled off a young Kurt Russell.

In any case the Daft Punk soundtrack is bliss. And the remix album is pretty good too.

And I still hope Tron 3 still happens. There’s a Tron coaster ride at Shanghai Disneyland that opened in 2016, and Disney World is supposed to get it in about three years.

As we enter our second decade of continuous zero-to-subzero net illegal immigration from Mexico, Trump is celebrating by sending the National Guard to the southern border.

Presumably while there, they can pick up some litter and rescue some cats from trees, as they contemplate their fate as a sentient but equally pointless wall.

You know Trumpy will fly in and do a big ass photo op. The troops will be quietly withdrawn soon as they’re actually needed somewhere else. Or when nobody is paying attention.

I’m sure I’d have had something to say about Tangled if I had seen it, either good or bad. More than Tron Legacy. All I remember is Shia LaBeouf was in it and Jeff Bridges had a creepy CGI double, way before the technology was ready for creepy CGI doubles.

LaBeouf was not in the movie. And since the CGI was mostly used for Clu, Flynn’s evil digital doppelganger, it works for me.

Ah, none of those in this one horse town. There was a home theater store a couple towns over that carried the super high end stuff, like 10 thousand dollar Laserdisc players, but they only survived a few years into the DVD era, so I don’t know if they ever carried Oppo. Those final LD fire sales were glorious though.

You would think Oppo would have tried to get stocked at Best Buy, which does carry some higher end stuff. Even Fry’s carries super expensive audio and video gear. About the only store I’ve seen sell SACD and DVD Audio discs. Think I’ve seen Blu Ray audio titles there as well.

Not if I said it, it’s not. I just meant being nervous and unsettled.

Sad to see so few had heard of Oppo. They’ve pretty consistently sat at #1 or #2 on every single ratings/roundup of disc players for the past decade or so. But disc players are so commodity I guess nobody looks at reviews – disc goes in, video comes out, that’s your complete feature set, and you can get that plus streaming for about fifty bucks these days. And I imagine that’s a large part of why they’re shutting down.

They also were never sold in electronics stores AFAIK.
