I'm considering doing some minor editing of an existing movie, but my goal is to modify only select scenes, and hopefully retain the menu architecture by only editing the video stream. I know Adywan released a sound effect fix in his ESB Theatrical Reconstruction. That used demuxing and remuxing and other such things to pull it off. Is that possible with the video track as well? And if so, is there an existing tutorial for that? I looked at the ones I could find, but none of them seemed exactly what I needed. Thanks!

Wow, that is beautiful. As much as I liked the removal of all the blue in the AVCHD, the new color correction is far more realistic and varied. Excellent work.
Ooh, I really like the first goldish sunset one- maybe a little desaturated, and it would look beautiful. It's a pity we never got any similar sunset shots in the exterior scenes- might not match at all- probably too much snow in the air to see it.
From my point of view the colors and brightness are far more natural, barely any tinting that I could see other than maybe the exterior planet scenes, but those are in a storm, so you'd expect as much. The overall look reminded me a lot of Aliens, which prior to this release always felt like it had a totally different visual feel.
Strange- it sounds fine on my system. There are known issues with the audio, especially the dialogue, where between lines the recording quality and pitch change. However, that has been in most versions of the film, so that wouldn't be Adywan's fault. You say the entire movie sounds tinny?
Hrm, it has been a while since I saw the fullscreen version- that's the version that is hosted in full on youtube, by the way. You might have a point, especially in scenes where there is a lot of small detail- more open scenes like the airplane sequence or the flying shots probably aren't as affected.
To throw my 6 cents in on the "true" aspect ratio topic: My impression was that they filmed it assuming it would be displayed in both ratios, so they shot it so that it would look good in either. There may be more information in the full screen print, but the widescreen also looks quite good, and I honestly don't think you miss a huge amount. That being said, I'm glad people have preserved the fullscreen print for posterity.
I'm not sure if you've seen the blu ray release yet, but my god it looks beautiful. Makes every previous release look like it was at 50% brightness, and it even has the cocoon scene inserted at full quality into the movie. If you're still working on this edit, I highly recommend you find a way to use that footage as a base.

Except soap operas are shot at 60fps, and have extremely boring lighting. Even with the color changes, the lighting is still far superior to any soap opera.
There are some typos in your covers, Nick:
"thirty" is spelled incorrectly on the second line
"Though," should be something like "However," to be gramatically correct
"executive producer George Lucas", fourth line
"thirtieth", fifth line
comma after "Irvin Kershner", first line second paragraph.

I did notice a few squib marks on the walls that need removing before the shots hit- I assumed you hadn't done it yet, and sure enough that's the case. Thanks for clarifying!

Oh, I wasn't aware that giganews had a trial version. I may have to check that out.
If someone with access to newsgroups (I, for one, don't have a subscription and my ISP doesn't include free access) could then mirror that to another uploading system, that would be great. I totally understand why you avoid torrents, Ady, but for some of us that's the only option.

Okay, how did you pull off the new facial movements? It's brilliant, and during the first part of the video I was wondering if "three" would match the mouth movements for "two." And then the mouth movements were completely different. o_o Explain please, good sir.
