STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I think we'll nitpick everything released from here on out to the final release of the film! :)

We've dissected just about everything else, so what else is there to do? ;) Though it would be nice to digest the image for a while before blowing it apart with "why not do it this way" posts....

I DO like the new shot and it probably is just because I'm so used to the old material that it stands out as it does for me, but what're you gonna do? I by no means hate the shot or have any suggestions on how to tweak it. It's just...different...and that's quite alright by me! Taken with the rest of the sequence, continuity is preserved shot to shot and that is a great thing indeed. In the context of the entire film, shots before and after this one will most likely look amazing as usual and make the whole even better than the small snippets.

Looking forward to next week's pic!

ignore the first shot because that's just the colour corrected version and i haven't begun work on this yet

I'm assuming you're going to be adding a snowspeeder encircling the far left AT-AT to jive with the collapse, and as such, the sequence will look pretty damned good. I think the new shot works well, but I do find myself looking more at the falling AT-AT than Luke. Good work as always, though!

The new ROTJ ending will need a lot of FX work and it needs the bitter-sweet ending that it would originally have had. this is supposed to be the fight to end all fights yet our heros escape unharmed (apart from a flesh wound with Leia). As i have said before the EU has nothing to do with the Revisited edits so i'm not too bothered if some of my decisions screw with the EU. I have the ROTJ:R ending already planned in my head which will take away the rehash of ANH feeling i always get when watching ROTJ. But you have to wait a few years to find out what i really have planned. lol

Hmm, Han Solo's prophecy fulfilled. maybe? ;)

"Yeah, I just got a funny feeling. Like I'm never gonna see her again."

Thanks dumb_kid for the clarification! :)

We really need to get a round table discussion (with audio) going sometime. Then any sarcasm, seriousness, etc., could be interpreted a bit better. There's only so much that comes across in the printed word. But that's not the point of the forum.

And don't get me wrong about the prequels, I quite enjoyed them the first time around (I even saw TPM something like 9 times in theaters). The experience of anticipating and seeing them with my friends and family are memories I cherish.

As I've aged and digested them, however, the films and their weaknesses don't sit well anymore. Which is why we have fan edits, I guess. But there's only so much one can do with the source material. Some edits I've seen are simply hideous, while others improve the overall experience (Uncanny Antman's T3 edit is very well done, for example). I do wish for better films, but am accepting to a degree to what we have. I do have faith Ady will come up with some fantastic edits of I-III.

Again, this is only my most humble opinion. If you love the films, then by all means continue enjoying them. I'm not trying to sour anyone's opinions of these movies. We all have different tastes and that's what makes these discussions great and sometimes very heated. I know I like some movies others despise. "Surviving the Game" with Ice-T and Gary Busey? I love that flick, but I'm sure most don't. ;)

Back to the matter at hand:

Ady, any chance of a live chat in the future, like what you did with ANH:R? Maybe after the trailer is released?

Look everyone wanted their own imaginations to be the prequels. I guess that's what happens when you make parts 4-6 first and give people almost 20 years to think about it before you release part 1. There are thousands or even millions of "My way"s.

And that's exactly why we need to say the hell with PT:R once ROTJ:R is finished, and just reshoot the whole damn thing! :)

I think Ady's capabilities should be up to that point by the time it rolls around....

I was thinking that Yoda should not be in the PT - he might be referred to by other characters but you never see or hear him talking. On the subject of Anakin's fall to the Sith, in a similar way - in episode 3 leave anakin's fate more of a mystery (a cliffhanger). So that the audience is left unsure exatly what has happened to anakin possibly that all the Jedi are wiped out including Obi Wan (hence uncle owen's comment at the dinner table in ep4). Padme is pregnant and alive at the end of the movie - but no talk of twins, its not necessary that she dies at the end of the movie or that you see her giving birth, as Leia's line in ROTJ resolves that part - when luke questions her about her mother. References to Bail having a wife in ep3 can be edited out - thereby the mystery of Padme also remains a mystery - did she die at the end of episode 3 or did Bail end up marrying her sometime after the events of episode 3. As episode 4 begins - her fate is irelevent to the story of Luke Skywalker.

If necessary footage of Anakin's fall to the dark side, Padme's birth of the twins and her death and palpatines "order 66" could be incorporated as a flashback/big reveal sequence in return of the Jedi after Luke questions the ghost of Obi Wan about the "Truth".

Great points all. Ideally for me, there would be no Yoda, no Jabba, no "Jedi University", and no reveal of Anakin's fate until possibly at the end of Ep III. In my ideal versions, Anakin is in his early twenties in Ep.I, has his epic battle with Obi-Wan in EP.II and is presumed dead, then Ep.III features this badass new villain named Vader who is plotting against the Republic and the Jedi. Only late into the episode is it revealed that he IS Anakin, but it is too late as the Republic's fate is sealed.

To tie this in with ESB :) , I would also have Boba Fett (no Jango) featured in one of the episodes where he comes in, kicks ass, wins, and leaves. Just like ESB. SO when watching in order, the audience will see him again in ESB and know there's a real threat for our heroes from witnessing his actions in the prequels.

Ah, to dream....

Oh, and nay I say to flashbacks or dream sequences. They weren't in 5 of the 6 films and don't need to be in ANY of them.

I've got a time question:

When the Falcon lands on Bespin, is it supposed to be in the a.m., with the final escape at sunset? Or does it land at sunset of day one, with the escape at sunset, day two? Or does more time elapse? Just wondering how much total time elapses here.

Well Ady's a continuity freak after all. :) If it's going to happen in one shot and not in another I feel that a lot of us wouldn't mind, but it may indeed drive Ady more crazy than he already is! As I've said already, it's never been there before, so I won't mind if it's not there after this edit is finished.

It's been a while since I've watched the prequels, but I believe the only scene where they dynamically reflect is the duel at the end of AotC, correct?

there was a reason why i decided not to add the lighting into ANH:R and that was that if i had added it into ANH:R then i would need to add it into the other 5 movies. now i was looking ahead and this created all sorts of problems. mainly in ESB & ROTJ. Thats problem was Vader. it may look good when adding it to the human faces but there is a huge problem with Vader. the scenes are dark and there is no lighting on vaders mask in many of the shots. now to pull this thing off convincingly i would have to create a travelling matte of vaders helmet & face illuminated which is just too damn crazy to even attempt to pull off. when the sabre glow hits vaders mask you would need to see the detail, which is none existent in most shots. while this would be possibly if he remain perfectly still, the only way to pull this off would be to create a 3d head and track every movement in every shot precisely then mask only the parts that need to be exposed. plus you would also have to match the trajectory of the lightsabre for the lighting on the 3d head.

this is why it wasn't in ANH:R and won't be featuring in th rest of the revisited saga i'm afraid.

Makes sense to me, and sounds incredibly time consuming and tedious if done. It's never been there until now, and I think I can live without it.

Looking forward to some bts....

RE: Lightsaber reflections/glow

I remember discussing this back in the ANH:R days, especially in regards to Ben in the Cantina. Someone did a mock-up that looked extremely convincing back then, but it was not to be incorporated into the final revision. Maybe things have changed for Ady and he would want to give it a go this time around. This is an effect I'm 100% in favor (or is that favour?). As long as it is pulled off right (and this is Ady we're talking about, so I would expect nothing less), ambient glow bouncing off the environment would add more realism and cast a mood in certain scense, expecially inside the carbon freeze chamber.

If it's possible, I say do it!

My impression with post-RotS Lucas comments is that Vader has no idea that Luke is his son, until the Emperor tells him in the asteroid field. But, hey, this is from the guy who is on record as saying the dark side is more powerful than the light, and that Han would wait for Greedo to shoot before firing himself. 8-l

This does weaken Vader's character immensely, so I choose the story that Vader has known for quite some time (how long is unknown), and is following his own agenda regarding Luke behind the Emperor's back. Vader gets a thoughtful, ruthless quality that is not there if he is actually unaware of Luke's origin.

I always had the idea that Skywalker was a pretty uncommon name in that universe, maybe because of the connotation of the "one that will bring balance to the Force", imagine if someone said "a Smith will bring balance to this country(US)" the search would be mute, but if you are going with a pretty uncommon last name is sort of like less candidates to fullfill that prophecy (which by the way the prophecy was known only to Jedi and Sith)

By that same token, it would be more difficult to track down the individual if it was indeed a common name. If the prophecy spelled out the name explicitly, the powers-that-be would just be on the lookout for that one person. Regardless, prophecies by nature are vague and wouldn't name names in the first place.

But this is all hypothetical at best, and just for our own personal edification in knowing Ben's and Vader's motives (and not necessarily Lucas's limitations - which are great in number). :)

almost completely undoing the terrible choice of Anakin not recognizing that he could have kids at all even though he's been calling him "Skywalker" all movie.

Yeah, but to me "Skywalker" is the Star Wars equivalent to "Jones" or "Smith" in the US. Who knows how many Skywalkers are running around in that universe?

Of course "hiding" Luke away from Vader by giving him to Vader's step-brother and keeping the "Skywalker" name wasn't too smart in the beginning, but what're you going to do? :)

Looking back at the screengrabs, it looks like a couple more have been put up since the last time I checked them. Nice removal of Mark's hand from within his jacket on the last pic. Subtle, but an improvement none-the-less.

I also don't remember if anything official was said about the Emperor and the "Luke..." line. Anyone know?

THE STAR WARS SAGA - 1080P AVCHD DVD-9 for PS3 & Blu-Ray players - Episodes 1, 4 & 5 available now

Well, I've had zero luck in tracking down copies of the PS3 AVCHD release for TPM, AotC, RotS, and RotJ (the ones made available by other fans and not adywan). I lost Wookie Groomer's 14 gb versions on a hard drive failure and would like these to fill in the gap I have now. If anyone can help me out, please pm me.

Thanks!

I fully expect this to exist only here and in the one screenshot.

I don't believe there's any chance of something like this scene appearing in the film, barring some newly unearthed HD deleted scenes. I'm just curious to see how it looks. Kind of like the old "What if..." comics. :)

Not too sure about the red strip light vaderios (it doesn't look very Executorish it looks a bit more Death Star II'ish if you get my drift) the rest looks cool, it would be nice to see how it looked in the right picture ratio too.

heh the red strip is placed only to help the eye to locate the general. also it supposed to be different part of the ship. Also i add the red as sight of power etc..

Angel,

Any chance of expanding the sides out to fill a 2.35:1 frame? I took Bingowings' suggestion and cropped it myself, but doing that loses the "smallness" of Veers in the image. Expanding the sides would make hime even more isolated and, for lack of a better word, small.

Wookie Groomer's 1080p Star Wars Saga project (Released)
Time

I posted this over in adywan's thread, but then I remembered about this one, so I will post again.

It looks as if all the ps3 avchd releases have slipped away on the newsgroups. I use Giganews and Astraweb and they are no longer there. Any chance of some re-ups of the prequels, and perhaps RoTJ? Once up again, they'll be there for a long, long time. Giganews is increasing to 365 days of retention and Astraweb is supposedly trying to get to 400 days!
