I don’t know what you guys would think about this but I’ve been playing around with editing ROTJ trying to create some dramatic moments where none exist, anyway let me know what you think of this force connection edit.

Can I just say that I think it’s great that we can finally have honest, adult conversations about this film.

People have always been more mature on this site, but if you go virtually anywhere else (Youtube/Twiiter/Reddit) there is no real conversation actually taking place.

I honestly cannot go anywhere else to talk about Star Wars besides in real life. LOL

The more I think about it, the more it seems like the Kylo and Hux bit at the end of the interrogation isn’t necessary. It might be more powerful to cut straight from Poe and the images of the map to BB-8 at Rey’s house. Then have some more voiceover of Rey’s troubles, using a more darkened shot of the wall of days. Ideally there would be some sort of dream imagery related to her years on Jakku before transitioning to the peaceful island, but I don’t know if that’s possible.

I like the sequence a lot better now. I still think maybe some sound effects could make it seem more dreamy lol

Amazing Idea!

But I think as of now it’s way too fast and too montagey. I think it could use a lot of work in terms of the music cues, pacing, tone, and transitions. But there is SOOO much potential!

This is just me but as an audience member I need to feel like this is Rey’s happy place. We need to really hear the waves and sounds of the island more. This is somewhere she has always dreamed of being. The total opposite of Jakku. Tonally it needs to really bring something to the edit, rather than just a montage of TLJ clips.

Also I’m definitly a fan of hearing Unkar Plutt’s voice, but I’m not so sure about Maz’s, I feel like it’s a little too out of place and ineffective. So excited for this scenes potential though.

IDEA: At the end of the movie when she arrives at Ach-To and shes staring at the waves, I feel the same music cues from whatever you use in this should re-appear in that scene as well.

Remove this thread, and all that will be left is what he’s said about OT in his livestream. We ought to have our side of the story told?
Someone could easily start a new thread about it if they don’t see this one. And we’re allowed to simply talk about edits don’t support. If that situation ever changes, we cross that bridge when we get to it. The editor in question has a lot more to worry about from the Mouse than we do.

I have a bad feeling about this… But ya I say delete the thread.

sounds reasonable to me …and wasn’t there something in the prequels about a "chosen one "?

The really weird thing about the chosen one was TPM started with utter peace.

Would have made more sense if say, the galaxy had been at war for centuries, like in KOTOR. I can only assume the prophecy was calling for “balance” by the force supporting his turn to the dark side and killing all but 2 Jedi and 2 Sith.

To my understanding, the dark side isn’t good. With the light side, the force is a Jedi’s ally. With the dark side, the force is an abused power. I don’t understand why a sentient force would support “balance”, because at no point does the dark side appear good. The Jedi were flawed yes, but partially turning to the dark side wouldn’t solve any of their problems.

It’s not weird considering the darkness that was rising in the shadows, and the eventual war and bloodshed that followed in the wake of TPM.

Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

I have this prediction that since Rey is “nobody”, that in Episode IX the story will end by all of the side characters banding together to use the force and win the day even they aren’t jedi. Signifying that the new Jedi that will form won’t be a select few that wield power, but everyone and anyone who wishes to follow the light can use the force and do good for the galaxy.

If the message at the end of IX is new and different I feel like the fandom as a whole will reject it and claim that Lucas is the only one who’s ideas matter. I don’t give a shit what the fandom thinks at this point. Im still on board with the new trilogy, and I am willing to give IX a chance.

How did Anakin become a force ghost?

And it’s very interesting to me that Luke definitly trained to become one but after what happened at the temple completely abandoned it.(Which to me seems completely reasonable for the character given how much loves his friends and family) But as he’s sitting on that rock in front of the suns he reconnects with that training. And it seems like he’s looking to the future as he did on Tatooine rather than embracing death. His final moments are pretty great to me, but I wonder what happens in universe to Anakin.

Maybe Qui Gon’s voice came to him as it did with Yoda, letting him know how this could be accomplished even though Vader would reject it. Yet in the end would achieve it since he would know how it would be done.

Getting an error with that key

Okay, I don’t know why it did that, I instead included the full unprotected link this time.

Absolutely love it. It’s baffling to me why the director/editor wouldn’t want it this way in the first place. Besides the color correction/lighting do you plan on editing the film any further? New music ect.?

Look Who’s back… (W.I.P.)

With the Sebastian Shaw force ghost of Anakin restored in this shot the scene of Luke removing Vader’s helmet revealing Anakin’s face should without a doubt be the unaltered original face.

But with that in mind, should the eyebrows be removed or left alone?

Idk I just think the scene has more emotion with the eyebrows lol

At 1:37:40 in Return of the Jedi (despecialized) it appears that Leia fires off a blank from her blaster pistol yet no blast was ever animated nor sound effect added. Its easier to see if you watch the film itself but I’ve included a screenshot of the original and my own fan edited effect. I’m not sure if Ady is aware of this continuity error but I found it myself pretty recently.

What do you guys think about the star wars fandom in general right now.

I love the members of this website but if you go elsewhere specifically YouTube its just a complete dumpster fire.

Its either clickbait from Mike Zeroh, #StarWarsDead, or “Disney/Kathleen Kennedy should be burned alive” videos. Besides the Vader fan film to me its all pretty embarrassing…

Youtube has always been a Wretched Hive, moreso after The Last Jedi.

I have no hard data to back it up, but I fear that a lot of the toxicity around Star Wars right now is coming from my generation, the ones that grew up watching the OT on VHS and seeing the Prequels in theaters, people who are now in their thirties or forties. Because I can’t imagine people like my parents, children of the 60’s and 70’s, caring too much about what the Mouse House is doing with the franchise after the mess that GL had made, nor having the time to whine about it in YouTube comment sections. And it’s funny, because I had come to assume that the folks here at the OT forums were the nitpicky cantankerous grumps, whereas many who grew up enjoying the prequels would love the franchise no matter what.

But there are still places unaffected by the toxicity:

https://sleemo.com/

That’s one I visit whenever I feel like the criticism and toxicity becomes too much.

I realize now that there are certain ways in which I interpret the (soon to be) three trilogies which allow me to appreciate them. The Original Trilogy requires the least interpretation, mostly just stripping it of the later EU baggage so that the films can stand on their own as the works of art they are. The prequels I can appreciate on the level of theme and concept, stemming from the pulp anthropologist mind of George Lucas. The themes of corruption and allusions to the Roman Republic, wrapped in a stilted classic Hollywood style make these truly unique and valuable films.

Finally, I find I can really appreciate the ST for its high production values and the genuine love for Star Wars on display, centered around some genuinely excellent and magnetic characters. The weaknesses of the ST being an overreliance on coincidence and fan service make it feel like the most extravagant fan project of all time, which I think is why it’s so easy to fanedit - the trilogy itself is an evolving collaboration between fans of the series with naturally differing viewpoints, so what’s one more viewpoint in the mix?

Very well stated. Its mostly just horrible internet culture to blame. Where its just so easy and fun for people to hate and scapegoat everything. Nobody can formulate their own solid arguments or opinions and its all about GroupThink. People feel more empowered when they can band together and point their finger at a common “enemy”.

Its just this aspect of human nature is so dramatized with the internet it becomes kind of sickening. There’s the prequel generation, and then the even younger generation who are complete sheep and victims to internet culture.
