Celebration 2017 Speculation

Don’t know about that, but he’s been “banned” from Celebration for quite some time. This would have been a good time to bury the hatchet and welcome him back.

The news was on another SW site that his health is not good and he will not be making public appearances again.

Sad. It would’ve been nice to see him at one final event after all this time, especially for the 40th anniversary.

OT fanboys go nuts when someone trashes their beloved ST.
PT fanboys go nuts when someone trashes, well, the PT.
Both sides refuse to accept that there’s any valid criticism of their films from the other side.
Both sides think the other side are complete morons blinded by nostalgia.
Both sides are still unable to comprehend that they’re exactly the same as the other side, just with different movie preferences.

What did Palpatine say? Ironic?

You mean like reverting to childish behaviour and mocking people for liking the prequels?
I would enjoy knowing why it’s okay for some people to be childish and mock people for their differing opinions, but not vice versa. I’d also like to know which lame justification I’ll get this time.
There are a lot of double standards here but I think the “you can’t disagree with me but I can disagree with you, and in turn mock you” may be the biggest one.
There’s not one sole perpetrator but the irony of arguments like these surely can’t be lost on everyone.

Nobody here is going to PrequelTrilogy dot com to bash the PT. If you want a place to discuss your PT love, maybe OriginalTrilogy dot com isn’t the best place.
Keep in mind that the only uniting thread we all share here is a love of the Original Trilogy. Don’t expect people to share or respect your opinion of anything else, but you are free to have whatever opinions your have on any subject. And everybody is free to state their disagreement and engage in debate.

Sorry Ray but this a very poor argument. If you follow your argument, the same could be said for TFA lovers: “If they want a place to discuss their TFA love, maybe OriginalTrilogy dot com isn’t the best place”.

I could get behind this as well. But there seem to be more TFA fans than not around here, so that’s how it goes. It would be the same if the PT ratio was flipped.
My point about OT love being the only thing to count on here stands.

So basically You’re saying mocking and insulting people is totally fine on any issue so long as “majority rules” on any given topic. I mean I know some threads can devolve into a big self important echo chamber at times, but it’s still pretty funny to get indirect confirmation.

Some people think TPM is the worst thing to happen to Star Wars, some people think TFA is, but really… Does it matter?
The fact that anyone in the world gets so bent out of shape about a movie they don’t like, that they need to mock people who do for almost 20 years, is new levels of ridiculous.
It’s even more ridiculous when those same people get what they’ve been dishing out for almost 20 years and can’t handle it.

Expecting some absurd unspoken mocking rule is not going to happen, people who go around mocking everyone and buckle down and get mad when the same thing is done to them just come off as sad.

Info Wanted: 2006 GOUT Full Screen DVDs?

I own that set. The GOUT is the same, non anamorphic widescreen with black bars on the top and bottom.

Damn. Thanks though!

They deserve it. People who want full screen should be locked up.

FS can at times have more detail than its WS counterpart in the 4:3 area, as well as a few other technical uses.
That and I find it enjoyably nostalgic from time to time.

Info Wanted: 2006 GOUT Full Screen DVDs?
Time

Hope this is the right place to ask this.
I’ve got both the Widescreen and Full Screen releases of the '04 Special Editions and the Widescreen releases of the '06 GOUT Limited Edition DVDs.
There were also Full Screen releases of the '06 Limited Edition DVDs (blue banner on the top and bottom, like the PT Full Screen DVDs), but does anybody know if these editions included the GOUT in Full Screen, or was it just the Special Edition that was Full Screen with the bonus disc remaining the same as the one from the Widescreen release?

I haven’t been able to find a definitive answer anywhere and don’t want to drop more money getting the blue banner releases of the Limited Edition DVDs if it’s just a Full Screen SE disc and standard GOUT disc, which I already have both of for all three films anyway.

I liked the scene, though I worry it won’t hold up on repeat viewings.

I’ve seen it 3 times (4 if you count the time I saw it on facebook) and it’s still glorious.

Yep, saw R1 several times in the cinema and while the Vader scene was obviously the best the first time round, it was still exceptional in repeat viewings.

Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread

Very bummed about the lack of deleted and alternate scenes, I love making extended cuts in my spare time and assumed there’d be massive amounts to work with for R1.
Even though they tried (and failed) to make the TFA ones unusable at least we got something.
I have a feeling a lot of the film was re-shot and Lucasfilm doesn’t want us knowing the extent of it, but who knows.

'97 vs. '04 (and '11) - Your preference?

while 04 and 11 were just an excuse to insert PT crap into OT.

I’d argue the same is true for 97, albeit to a lesser extent.

What PT stuff is in the 97 edition?

I was mainly referring to Coruscant, which is debatable, and CGI Jabba, which I believe was a test for CG Jabba in TPM (I’m sure I remember seeing a quote from Lucas about it, I could be mistaken though). They’re not direct PT links but I suppose you could make a case for some of the changes only being there because of the PT. It doesn’t really matter though, PT or not most of the stand-out visual changes are garbage.

Look, for once we should all come together and agree that the SEs all suck.

I mean I don’t mind the removal of some pretty bad matte lines/boxes and such and the SE Cloud City is kinda cool, but there’s not much else good to be found.

I don’t even think some of the more pointless changes would bother me so much if they weren’t so lazy.
Why does R2 hide behind rocks that vanish in the next shot?
Why is the outside door to Jabba’s Palace so huge but inside it’s tiny?
If you’re going to pump money into crappy distracting CGI at least make it consistent.

Laserdisc....

Not sure if you’re aware or not, but the user Video Collector has an amazing reference website:
http://www.swonvideo.com/
Not complete and hasn’t been updated in a while, but it’s a very good kickstarting point; it helped me a lot when I was just beginning to collect Star Wars home media a while ago.
There’s a description under each release on each format listing some of the finer details, you might find it useful.

The Place to Go for Emotional Support

Tyrphanax is on the money. Been through enough truly horrendous break ups (both friends and partners) to know that things do eventually heal over.
It sounds cliché, but distractions are your friend. Give it time and you’ll just look back and shake your head, it happens to the best of us. Either way you’re in my thoughts, nobody deserves to feel that way. Try and get out of the house and treat yourself if you can, your mental well-being will thank you later.
