What didn't you like about TFA? SPOILERS
Time

Comparing any of the LOTR films to AOTC and ROTS is ridiculous.
Both series’ films are full of CGI, but AOTC and ROTS both have considerably more fully CGI characters and environments than any of the LOTR films.
The only movie you could make a case for when comparing the two series’ is TPM having effects that don’t hold up as well as LOTR because they have sort of an equal amount of practical/digital, but TPM came out in 1999.

Lord of the Rings also has some shocking CGI sequences that do not hold up, the difference is that Peter Jackson did a better job of blending practical and CGI than George did, so it isn’t as noticeable.

TFA was under the illusion that Star Wars = iconic imagery and practical effects, paying no notice of anything deeper than the surface that gave I - VI that ‘Star Wars feel.’
It looks like Disney/Lucasfilm is set to repeat itself with Rogue One.

George made a lot of mistakes and couldn’t fully grasp everything, but from what I’ve seen from this new ‘era’, the only person who really understands the essence of Star Wars is George.
The smart thing to do would have been to keep George away from directing duties and get him to collaborate with others, just like he did for the OT.
But alas, apparently all the audience cares about now is dumbed-down story telling with lots of “pew pews” and laser swords that make cool noises, so if it sells, nothing is going to change.

Maybe Episode VIII will surprise me and if it feels like it actually belongs in the Star Wars universe then I’ll forgive TFA and embrace the sequel trilogy, but for now the series for me is Episode I - VI, everything made after ROTS is fanfiction.

I think the hardest part of this would be making it look convincing enough that it would appear to belong right after the original trilogy in the 80s.
Too cheap looking and it’ll look like a bad fan project.
Though in saying that, you can’t get too much of a step down from those horrendous green screens in ROTJ, right?

I’m decent at adding artifacts and grain so I’d offer what help I can, though if you’re making major edits like above I’d be worried if you couldn’t do that yourself.
Good luck, I’m actually quite interested to see how this turns out.

The same way the 1997 crowd made Han step on Jabba’s tail… only not quite as badly.

Jabba’s tail shot was not only pulled off by those harboring millions of dollars at their disposal, but it was only one shot.
There is literally no way in the world he could pull off a convincing limp for every one of the original cast.

With the exception of Poe and Chewie no there is not. Unless you want to include Phasma, Snoke and Hux.

EDIT:

Also you started the TFA bashing so don’t even…

Cough… Rey.
And I made an offhanded joke, I wasn’t the one to start a whole discussion on it.

Look, TFA is not a bad film and I think everyone who flat out says it’s crap without giving a reason isn’t worth debating anyway. However I feel TFA is an immensely disappointing film.
I’m not defending the prequels, but Lucas tried very hard to make something new and exciting; it had the similar story beats to ANH, but it was its own film.
Could it have been executed better? For sure. Does it have flaws? Definitely.
However at least it was a new Star Wars film.

No matter which way you spin it, Disney/Lucasfilm went with the absolute laziest, safest approach they possibly could to rebooting the franchise because they cared more about $$$ than artistic merit. That’s fair enough, they’re a company, they want money, but it doesn’t mean people have to like it.
The light backstory of TFA about Luke’s Jedi Temple is about a thousand times more interesting than what we got.
There are some cool ideas in TFA, but it’s not enough to make up for the rest.

As if we haven’t had enough of those jokes on the internet.

We’ve had 17 years of prequel bashing, five months of sequel bashing is nothing.

The prequels seriously deserved it. Also they were bashed for a multitude of reasons. The same can be said of TFA but most of the complaints are inane or is based on not understanding the film. The “TFA is a remake/rehash of SW” is valid to a certain degree but it’s said so often that it’s gotten annoying. It’s gotten to the point in which people call it a rehash when the topic isn’t even being discussed.

Ohhh… Here we go again.
Claiming the complaints are made by those who simply ‘don’t understand the film’ is arrogant at best.
TFA is filled with one dimensional characters, massive plot holes, inconsistencies galore and its only saving grace is that it feels nostalgic, because apparently a pretty looking film is enough these days even when the actual content of the film is a joke.
Waiting 10 years for a new Star Wars film only to get a lazy cashgrab is cause enough to be annoyed.

Regardless, I really don’t want to derail this thread and get yelled at by the mods, so I’m not saying anything more on the matter, at least here.

I’m curious to see how this edit will look. I feel like it’s the sort of thing that can look very good if done well or abysmal if not.
I look forward to seeing some examples.

No amount of nostalgia can change the fact that Jar Jar Binks stinks up the whole thing. A good fanedit or nothing at all IMO.

That’s, just, like, your opinion, man.

You obviously don’t know what IMO means. Also, you do realize that this forum is made up of people’s opinions, man, don’t you?

He was making a reference to The Big Lebowski. I think it was meant lightheartedly 😃

Ooooh, oops! And I consider myself a Big Lebowski fan.

Hahahaha, yeah man, I’ve got better things to do than actually start shit over someone’s opinion, I just like The Big Lebowski 😉

To throw my bone into the mix for the prequels, I have bootleg DVDs, VHS and VCDs, and many of them (I have a weird habit of collecting them, much to the dismay of my bank account).
A few ‘big’ ones I have that may be of interest are a theatrical telecine of TPM (unfortunately with hard-coded Russian subs, and on a VHS tape) and I also have a bootleg DVD of the ROTS telecine mentioned earlier, which I believe is the only way to see the theatrical version of ROTS without a few thousand dollars to throw around.

The other main ones of note are the CTP AOTC and Z TPM VCD, but both of those are available already if you know where to look.

I don’t know why/if any of my bootlegs would help anyone, but the offer is there just in case.
Frankly I love the prequels and while I don’t have time to attempt large scale preservations, I’m more than willing to help others who may be interested.

Star Wars: A New Threat (TFA EDIT) (Released)
Time

I’m starting to view TFA more and more as a fan film the more I think about it. I’m extremely unhappy with the final product, which is funny because I absolutely loved it after the first time I saw it; my displeasure has slowly crept its way in since release.
For this reason I’m looking forward to the fanedit community for it, something I usually completely avoid and stick purely to preservations.
However I’m now coming to see why and at least understand the point of view of all those who made prequel fan edits. While I love the prequels as they are, I’ve started to understand how some fans felt, and their the need to ‘fix’ them in their own eyes.

This edit is so far looking very promising, I look forward to your continued updates (:

Original Trilogy with deleted Scenes DVD Project - DVD cover and disc art wanted
Time

An ‘extended’ version of the OT already exists that incorporates all the deleted scenes from the 2004 DVD, I believe ADigitalMan made it, there may or may not be an updated version that includes the 2011 BD exclusive scenes.

So I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking/making? Someone has already made an extended version.
If there’s something else you’re going to include that hasn’t been done before please outline what you’re going to do, because I’m quite puzzled.

Nope, only 1 - 6.
Deathly Hallows 1 and 2 didn’t get the FS treatment.

Were 1-6 open matte? So: are there more image information on top and bottom?

My copies of the FS Stone and Chamber are both open matte, I’m yet to watch my copy of Half Blood Prince though. I’ll do that tonight and report back.

Bigrob,

If you plan to get <span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince on Full Screen, can you upload that? Please reply. Thanks.

If you’re still interested, I recently bought the FS Half Blood Prince on DVD.

Great! I am still interested. How do you plan to share it?

Sorry for the late response, I really need to start ticking that “notify” checkbox.
Send me a PM and we’ll work something out.
