Really???

Well In section of the duel where Vader reveals he is lukes father...

I think it is on the line "Luke, you do not realize your importance"

I think it is the cameraman in his helmet and you can see his face and his round neck t-shirt / jumper. It is actually really easy to see him in the helmet.

Sorry on my phone cannof post picture...

I have spotted something about a month a go and I have held off bringing it up because iI would be shocked if it is something you had not already addressed and probably already fixed. But it is not on the list....

Is it a reflection of a boom mic operator or a camera man on that dark helmet?

Thanks for the reply Thorr, I actually found the radio podcast last night and listened to Part 1 of it. He has not brought up anything I did not already know though in that part which was what I was hoping for to be honest :)

But yes I am fascinated by it all the same. I will give the others a go too.

My highlights thus far:

1) Revenge of the Sith in 3D* (crowd cheering when Anakin pulled his lightsaber on the younglings was quite something!)

2) JJ Panel & new trailer (the cheer when Han & Chewie were shown...)

3) Empire Strikes Back lost music with David W Collins

4) Carrie Fisher panel (she's mad and so charismatic)

5) Art of Ralph McQuarrie panel

6) Canon panel

Today: Smuggler's Bounty, Mark Hamill, plus a panel with Clone Wars composer Kevin Kiner if I can fit that in.

Tomorrow: Billy Dee, Doug Chiang, Gareth Edwards & Josh Trank, and Closing Ceremony.

*Note: I've personally dropped my anger about the prequels. They're not going away, they're firmly canon, so I might as well look for positives. My ire for the Special Editions and the lack of OOT will never be dropped.

GlastoEls is there any chance you can tell me about number 3 please. Empire Strikes Back Lost music?

The x-wing fly over I thought was superb and the classic shuttle and escort ships flying towards a larger ship looked like something straight out the OT.The opening shot was great too. They just have to perhaps show a little restraint with the modern technology I think with this sequence in particular from what I have seen of it.

Less is often more.

No problem. And it took my brain this long to notice the ROTJ homage in that shot. Considering I hated the snap zooms and shaky cam on the BSG reboot, that zoom oddly doesn't bother me at all.

First Order... Wasn't the Empire called "First Choice" in Backstroke of The West? ;)

The Shaky Cams and Snaps zooms never really bothered me with the BSG reboot because I saw it as a totally new *product*

Because this film is meant to be a sequel, I think they should tone down what they CAN do today to fit in a bit more with what could not be done when the original came out.

It's not to say I don't see the success in what they are achieving I have to say I am actually rather optimistic about all that I have seen so far I really like everything else about the sequence I have seen apart from that weird camera move as the falcon does the loop and the snap zoom.

I am not nit picking either I think if they could give it back the sweeping and gracious moves we are used to, I think it would be an all out winner it's the only fear I have that there could be a lot of this type of stuff?... There might not be however. Let's just wait and see... I give it a very good stamp overall.

^^ This for me is the main triumph in the trailer that the characters look real and not cardboard cut outs.

and I am shocked the ball droid is also real too. (sorry if I am late on that one)

The only things that is really un star wars like is the new trailer camera angles / zooms on the falcon sequence. which we saw a bit of previously in trailer 1 Star wars films had a nice flow to the special effects shots of the spaceships and how they were composed but the new trailer shows us that we could be in for a bit of a bumpy ride and a bit confusing from what watching a star wars film normally is.

If it aint broke don't fix it. Even the special edition did not have these way out camera moves on space ship shots, and I can imagine in 3d it would be perhaps even more confusing and breaking the flow.

I really think they should scrap the documentary hand held style shaky cam and just realize it's just not needed... It's not an improvement.

Secret Cinema - Empire Strikes Back in London
Time

I had some emails about this Rebel X... It's basically a member sign up if you are going to the secret cinema event.

The promotional member sign up has bit's of info on it. And funnily enough it said something about look to the skies on this night at these co-ordinates.

This was to advertise a projection of the rebel x logo on to a building that could host the event.

Funnily enough I am going to work at one of the possible venues tomorrow for the first time and immediately recognized the image of the rebel x logo on the building I will be going to tomorrow.

So it could be at the Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London.

Has the Location been confirmed?

I'm personally not too excited. There were some bits I liked and there were some I didn't. Some of the character moments were nice but in the last shot, it didn't click for me as seeing Han again, I just saw Harrison Ford, I don't know why and Chewie looks really weird too.

And the VFX shots reminded me of this video by MVerta about VFX shots grounded in reality, which was a
hallmark of the original movies. The crazy camera moves, while cool, just don't read as reality. It looks sort of incogruent with not only the original movies but, from what we've seen so far, also with the live action in this new movie.

If I could put my finger on the new special effects shots of what they absolutely remind me of, I would say without shadow of a doubt RONALD D MOORE BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

I really really like the new series of Battlestar Galactica but as you have quite rightly pointed out. It's not STAR WARS.

They have tried to tap into that vision that was recently very popular as it's probably the last best successful character driven space opera and decided to give it that documentary style camera angles zooms and so fourth.

Studio executive choice perhaps / Marketing? Not a creative decision but a bit of a copycat move of BSG?

It's Fantasy not sci-fi but grounded in reality but it seems as though that has tipped to a modern alternative and a bit of new direction. Please god though..we need sound in outer space in star wars... I hope they realize the difference between BSG and Star Wars but you look at the old original series of BSG it was a copy of star wars on a smaller budget... Go figure.

This seems to be a copy of NU BSG on a bigger Budget....

Examples please.

I really can't be bothered with an argument with someone who is being pushy with me and someone I don't know... I have had a long day at work so I'll give you one example in the link above because I just can't be arsed to reel off 8 months worth (on and off) of studying the score of ESB..

In the film 2 pieces of totally different music at different tempo's blended together by Mr. Balloon Hands and Mrs Sloppy scissors very Jarringly so. The clip is an attempt to put the original music back as best I could. took about 2 weeks and It's no good, It can not be done with any of the existing audio so it's a dead end... But It gives you an idea of what the music was meant to be like for this scene but the easier option and possible solution to the problem is simply to blend the 2 existing pieces of music present in the film together by cross fading through and not hard cutting like hitting a brick wall of music all of sudden.

You won't be getting another example either good night.

But moving on to the OT, the scoring is just right as it is

It's a bit of a sweeping statement but yeah on the whole with regard to Light Saber duels I will agree with you but not as a complete film (ESB) or saga there are mistakes in there... and there are also problems created by the special editions too with regard to music and cues.... Don't forget that.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)
Time

I prefer the credit sequence in the Pal VHS Version I saw and the court room scene the music is screwed up in the directors cut and the pacing... Although I do really like the Directors cut for many reasons but I would also like a bit more of the gritty footage put back. I'd be interested in seeing a hybrid cut If that makes any sense.

Have you got your hands on a Theatrical print?

Don't quote me but I have a feeling that the credit sequence just looking better in the version I saw.. I know it's different between versions but I am wondering.... I just can't remember Sorry.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)

Sorry to jump in here, I did notice this thread a while a go and I do really like THX1138.

I saw it originally on VHS oh back in the 90's..

I bought the directors cut DVD and Have to say I really enjoyed it... It is a much better special edition than the star wars films In my opinion and has some great extra features. Although I admit I cannot remember the theatrical cut which I saw very well

But what I am most interested in is this opening Narration and any other "Big" differences between versions comparable to the directors cut. But I am talking outside of movie censorship.com comparisons.

Is there a streaming link to this alternate opening sequence?

I have to say I also prefer the original Theatrical ending credits of course too but I am mostly curious about different scenes in different versions to be honest.

Never mind I found the link to the iIalien opening... Is there an English version though????

my ESB Grindhouse Fan Colour Correction (Released)
Time

When you do the cockpit shots like you have here...

You can not just color correct this as a complete picture.

You need to color correct the background (Fake Background) and the foreground Luke in cockpit separately. They were never matched in the first place properly the foreground is totally different colors to the background so they need matching and treating as separate entities... Which they are.

You could class that as revisionism but I doubt they intended the layers to be that different from one another so you decide if you want it to look good or not.

The process you have done could also be classed as revisionism though depending on which layer you were color correcting the shot to. If one layer was correct and the other was not then you are effectively lumping it all together to create a *new version* and altering the layer that was correct so In my book they need to be treated separately to achieve the proper result.

I did notice that other films in their show reel looked a lot better than star wars or Empire Strikes Back... Perhaps the source they have been commissioned to work on is just way beyond what is reasonably acceptable for the price that has been paid?

I mean like there needs to be a point where someone realizes that it's just not comparable to what people expect. I thought the Star wars clips stood out in comparison to True Lies and Raiders for example on their show reel as a lesser quality.

I think Mike here has the right approach because he knows he has something, that won't be matched by people just doing a job for money. Like the Blu-Rays or the reliance clips we have seen.

And to be honest, It's about time someone dangled a carrot over this film and said... "I have a superior version do you want it or not....Because everybody else wants it"

And I think that is a strong enough message unto itself.

Keep going Mike and try to think of a way to get your messages out to more people so people will feel cheated out of what is the "Standard" and not some lame excuse of a release that quite frankly is not acceptable, should not and will not be peddled out to the public in the current state it is in.

The Unofficial Complete REVISITED SAGA Ideas and Random Discussion Thread

Ok Fishman I had another go... I had no choice.... I was just trying to help...

http://vimeo.com/124493781

So first of all, I noticed that the swell occurs well after Chewie Let's go of Lando's throat... This feels late so I thought I would time this to the action on screen. Not sure if it is a music cue mistake or it's just that way. But I think it works well.

I had another go at the music cues for the departure of Boba Fett and all I can tell you is that... I cannot 100% figure out what is going on with it... But I will say this much.

I agree with the music cues in the SE up until after "Hurry Hurry, we're trying to save Han from the Bounty Hunter" This is the point it goes wrong. And this is the point that we could be missing a small snippet of footage. I am just going to walk away from this now but you will hear how the music starts to complement the action on screen very well once we get to the door opening.

I don't have a concrete answer and I am sorry that I can't really shed any light as far as the whole sequence goes... But I tried and perhaps that is just helpful enough and to point out what I see in it. I know it can work better, but I am at a loss as to exactly how at this time.
