The WOWWOW looks closer as the truck is grey so I would again vote WOWWOW is the better source.
The WOWWOW looks closer as the truck is grey so I would again vote WOWWOW is the better source.
I think those 3 are more or less nailed.
here is a picture of the actual canyon for comparison of the rock color and shrubberies in Tunisia.
And Another looking away from the sun
And the Blu Ray here you posted.
Let's put it this way... When you used that reference Picture to re-grade, that's when I immediately thought. Ok now this is really something that is making it look much better. You can feel it now bursting through.
Well the first wave of troops storm Echo Base shortly before the shield is destroyed.
And imminently after the shield is destroyed it appears as if Vader is already in Echo Base and Blasting through in to the command center.
That is why I thought about it a bit differently in terms of how the attack on Echo Base was staged because Vader's objective was to capture and not Nuke Echo Base from orbit or stage a risky air battle against a well equipped x-wing fighter squadron.
It would be far easier to sprint fourth on the terrain that was cleared by the AT-AT's against a decimated ground force that were fleeing for their lives whilst the shield was still up and the rebels were concentrating on escape and also escaping in to an unprotected hostile zone in outer space surrounded by Star Destroyers and Tie Fighters.
The problem is with tie fighters on Hoth atmosphere is it kind of contradicts the scene of Luke taking off and the whole vibe that all is ok and there is no longer anything to fear as they are leaving without confrontation. Otherwise I would be all for it. But It also makes more sense for the ties to be further away to intercept in outer orbit the rebel ships that are trying to escape
yep that is more like it :)
Belloq is Brilliant from WOWWOW, but your still overdoing something look at the Hat.
Like this perhaps?
Regardless the WOWWOW has Blue in this so it is the choice and the BLU-Ray is no good.
The first Image does not need to be altered really it's more or less correct as it is.
Indeed... I had a look at some of the other files on that channel, and there is some cool stuff there.
For one the "Sounds of Star Wars Book" For which I have a copy and the sound board is broken I actually bought it reduced so at least now I can get full value out of my discount purchase :)
Star Wars trench Run was interesting
And Star Wars Trilogy Arcade although lower quality, it had some unique sounds in there which I liked for both the Falcon & the Tie Fighters.
A lot of it is much of the same and personally I found those to be good and interesting and good quality.
I could not be bothered sitting listening through some of the others as nothing was really jumping out at me. But perhaps you can advise me otherwise.
I think the Rogue Leader series really has some great stuff in it though and I am so pleased they managed to extract them.
One of the conundrums that I have wondered about it, general veers telling Vader. "you may start your landing"
So I wondered how does Vader get to the Base so fast.. Yeah it's only a film but a thought I pondered was that Vader Landed and got there quick in the Juggernaught?
It's a fun thought anyway, not that it really matters.
Think about the color of the Water it's not right in the Blu-Ray and it's not right in your color match.
The cyan shift is probably so the plane could be matted in...
Common Sense and your color matching will give you better results. Don't be too drastic either because it's not that bad.
Think Naturally about it.

I met John Landis, He's a nice guy. I wen't to a screening of American Werewolf in London where he was releasing / signing his new book. "Monsters in the Movies"
I don't think it's something he would make up, so he knows something, and has shared it and he's obviously excited about it too.
A Very Warm person is John Landis.
While I would never call Landis a "nice guy" (especially after the Twilight Zone incident) but I really hope he's correct.
Mistakes happen, and a most unfortunate mistake it was. But that does not make John Landis "not" a nice person.
He's probably had a very upsetting time over it himself, considering it also destroyed his directing career temporarily and no doubt he must have felt very guilty for what happened. But it's a mistake and not an evil deed. There is no way he wanted for that stuff to happen.
And there are many others involved in a production, it was not "all" his fault either.
I am standing by my comment that I thought he was a "warm" person.

I wonder if the new "Battle of Hoth" will be as tense and complex as it was in the game "Rogue Squadron" ?

I like how the Empire throws in waves of troops and vehicles (TIEs!) at the Rebels, forcing them to flee the base - somehow it is better orchestrated than in the actual movie ...
The only Evidence for there ever being any planned ground combat between rebel troops and snow storm troopers was after wedge tripped the AT-AT.
Half of the sequence remains in the film where the guy shouts "Come on!" and they run forward out of the trenches.
So why did it not end up in the film? I think the reasons are quite obvious. You would still have trouble in 2015 doing that shot but the ambition was certainly there and the ideas were flowing or even overflowing. A decision to keep the snow troopers in the AT-AT hulls was also an obvious choice to make things easier to shoot the miniatures. But it is a shame we never got to see them abseiling out of the Hatches on the side. In fact a real shame that was...
There is many a different twist or an interpretation of a shot if you add a particular element to a shot and present it like that. You sometimes not only need to look for whole shots being removed such as in this case to understand why they were running at the AT-AT or should I say planned and never made to fully understand things but also look for absent elements from shots... It could be Laser fire, It might be a few tie fighters but all of a sudden a different meaning unfolds to a shot and you can say... Ah now I got It!
But there is certainly not any Missing Tie Fighters on the planet Hoth ground battle.
What might be worth checking is that Rebel Strike may have all the sounds and more from Rogue Leader.
I am not sure but it could be duped as the first game is included in the second game as 2 player experience.
So you may only need Rebel Strike sound files as a complete archive for both titles.

seems like it's closer to the Blu-ray to me than this color matching program. Not saying it's bad but to me I think there is something you are failing to take into account... Common sense on skin colors and so fourth. Over saturated Blues and Reds should be very apparent to you by now in your output... You can see that it's just not a natural range of color.
You got these sounds or not?

Pretty good I think. From Gamecube hard to extract but they cracked it!

what is so different about this scene?
Did anyone ever confirm a rumor about a few missing seconds in the Bar Fight with the big gherka from 35mm theatrical cut.. Or is it rubbish and lies?

It's a very nice story, It sounds like a poetic end to a chapter of an awful lot of hard work with a splendid reward concerning your sons new interest and how it has affected him.
I listened to your podcast, and I enjoyed what you have to say about all sorts of interests that you have and so fourth, but what really struck me was when you were talking about how after watching Star Wars you had decided at 5 years old you wanted to be a film score composer.... That the music had the most profound effect but also that it was coupled with stunning visuals the like of which the world had never seen before.
I was only 1 year old when Star Wars came out but by 5 years old I too was either watching the film again and again or I had a recording that was made on an old 90 minute Maxwell cassette tape of Star Wars from Betamax. That I would listen too repeatedly because I did not need to see the film I could see it in my mind. I only needed to hear the music dialogue and sound effects and I was transported to that galaxy far far away.
I suppose nobody is alone in that experience when it takes you by force or with the force :) Looking back I guess it also really has influenced me very much without even knowing it until more recently as I love music very much, not all of it but a lot of music and I wanted to be a musician but kind of slipped away from it over the last 5 years due to work commitments mainly.
Anyway I'll get to the point of this spiel now... So the last year and a half (on and off) I have been studying the score to Empire Strikes Back for which I think is possibly one of the best music scores ever committed to film in my opinion I feel like I am nearing the end of that journey now of studying it. My question to you is....
Does the assembled cut (multiple cuts new opening for instance) of the film reels that John Williams scored the music to still exist with the timing bars and animatics and/or rough cuts alternative takes?
Basically what was on the screen when John Williams wrote the various music score?
Is it obtainable or perhaps viewable? Or is there any specific narrative that can address "this footage" with "this music"?
It's not intended to be a derailment either.. I think it's probably something you are interested in and no doubt I am sure you thought about bits or pieces of cut music while you were dabbling within Star Wars Legacy too.

This thread is now rejuvenating my desire to visit Ireland.
Damn my lack of a passport and money to travel overseas.
The 70's and 80's were quite exceptional times in film making where directors seemed to have more control and creative power.
But there are still good films being made.
The best films I have seen this year either in cinema or on DVD would be..
Nightcrawler
Gone Girl
Ex Machina
Mad Max
The only other film apart from the Force Awakens I am looking forward to is "High Rise" by Ben Wheatley. I am hoping they will both be good.
Congratulations on finishing up Legacy. Stunning Work.

The recent book on the making of The Shining has plenty of Kubrick anecdotes. ;)
2001 was also trimmed down after it's premiere, but the cut footage was found a few years ago in the studio vaults. Maybe Warner's can work something out with Kubrick's estate for the 50th anniversary in 2018.
I found this one the other day also.
Devils Advocate (Taylor Hackford)
http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=4057
An artist Sued because of a sculpture that was featured in the film was a copy of his work. So it had to be digitally altered to remove it's likeness.
Yeah I am not too sure.. The Blu-Ray out now is apparently the theatrical cut restored...
That end scene is a load of rubbish I don't believe that... But I am curious about the Sherpa / Raven Bar fight scene.
It was quoted on IMDB also but has since been removed.
If we are going to talk censorship it's also worth noting that the exploding Head of the Nazi Officer was covered in flames to obtain PG Raiting. The original cut was more graphic.
There is some deleted scenes on the new Blu-Ray but I think the Kurgen killing Yung Dol Kim is lost...
I suppose we should also add to the list.
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Steven Spielberg) - The theatrical cut has some bad language that was removed and also a scene in the bar fight ...
In the original 1981 theatrical version of Raiders, there are a few additional seconds during the Raven Bar fight where the Giant Sherpa (played by Pat Roach) shoves Indy against several walls while one of the Nazi henchman laughs. This footage was deleted in all re-release prints and video releases.
It's never been released in it's theatrical form but again was on TV I think in P&S
Can anyone actually confirm this though?
It could be one of those rumours...
