This was on the Facebook…

First Composite… Looks Great!

How are you going to do the block slamming down??

Ahh anyway quick note which I am sure you are aware of. 2004 sondmix (not sure about Blu ray) has the sound for the the Carbonite Block slam come in late. It is in synch in the Gout. I hope you fixed that. Really sloppy sound mix edit there in the SE.

OT Audio Changes
Time

ESB has the most audio differences

16mm
35mm
70mm
Special edition
Radio drama
The story of vinyl LP
Soundtrack

It’s the film of the OT with the most audio either featuring in a separate mix of the film or in other material made intended to be in the film but omitted.

This pertains to both music and sound effects and alternate dialogue.

There are many differences between the mixes and a lot of unused music, dialogue and sound effects.

This is now sorted 😃

I am hoping some elements from this game will propel some star wars fan edits to new heights… I think there is a lot of scope from various content

I’m sure this has already been discussed but I don’t feel like searching through 1284 pages so I’ll just ask. Will you be restoring the unused (in 1980) music for the transitions to the bounty hunter scene and Captain Needa’s death, as the SE did? One of the few things they got right, in my opinion.

Yeah that is very much a which one to use scenario…I don’t think this has been confirmed?

I believe the music cues from some of the special edition transitions are being used but the clips were labeled temp audio so not really anything concrete.

The omitted music after Luke says “I’m not afraid” and Yoda says “You Will be…YOU WILL BE” do you think that music was chopped out because Joe Johnston was planning on showing a Space Slug coming out of a hole and eating a tie bomber.

Basically the footage exists although never seen yet Joe Johnston exclaimed that it looked awful but I am wondering if this was the reason for the music being cut even though it was scored without that footage of Space Slug eating a tie bomber did it somehow push this particular music transistion from being included?

I think it is the only reason I could find as to why it was never there in the film other than the simple answer it was just cut.

Idea: TOTAL RECALL (1990) - UNCUT Version Reconstruction
Time

This did get my interest… Honestly this is a great film and I am not sure that much could be done here to improve upon what is there already.

Do you know if any of this footage is available anywhere?

I did check my special edition dvd tonight but there does not seem to be anything to much regarding these censored scenes. At least the parts that claim to be censored don’t appear to be available as far as I am aware.

It talked about the censorship and there were a few clips to go with that but I don’t think there is anything for Benny being drilled or Helm being stabbed.

There seems to be talk of the Australian Version but I doubt it is any different can you confirm any different version?

There is a picture on the dvd with the stabbing and a small bit of blood coming through his t-shirt so I doubt it’s as graphic as the fangora photos.

The Japanese VHS apparently cut’s to quaid being in the chair at Recall with alternate music cue.

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **
Time

I’m not ruling out that the music in the film will not grow on me music has a tendancy to do that too as you quite rightly have stated, but I can say without any shadow of doubt in my mind that nothing about the music apart from the opening fanfare I could remember.

I remember there being music but I can’t recall how it went. Actually coming to think of it I liked the reggae tune in Maz Katana Bar… That I do remember vaguely.

But I can’t remember any of the orchestrals at all. I wish I could but I can’t.

But with that said there are many films that you can watch and immediately you will be struck with the thought “That sounds Amazing!!” that did not happen for me at all and I was really hoping for that and it just did not happen.

I watched “the Shining” the other day and whilst watching it I felt totally overcome in awe of the music and sound that I was being presented with.

I could probably mention also another film such as “The Mission” and the theme in that when it breaks namely gabriel and his obe or the falls. I am talking about powerful themes that can move you in an instant.

And I personally feel the Original Star Wars films and even the prequels did a better job. So to expect the same when it came to going to TFA was ultimately a let down for me and I’ll stand by my opinion that I thought it is weaker than previous efforts or perhaps different and it did not work as well as previous efforts.

Basically the music in TFA for me is honestly nowhere near the top of my list of what I look for in so far as music that really has an affect and thus I think it is unfortunately a weakness that I feel the film suffered. The music did not drive the film forward it just was there in the background.

I feel like those who are being super critical of the score either haven’t experienced as many repeat viewings as we who really dug the movie or else weren’t interested enough to really live with the soundtrack for a while after Disney put it on YouTube. Now that I’m very familiar with it, I realize there’s so much more going on than one viewing can convey. There are at least five new themes that I couldn’t get out of my head if I wanted to. It’s definitely a score that rewards continued listening.

Well I only saw the film once and the only music I could remember was the original Star Wars Fanfare at the Start on the opening crawl.

Good Music just does not work in the way that you need to continually listen to something to have to appreciate it.

If it is very good you will get the hook put in to you. You’ll be hooked on it.

Basically yeah I will watch it again at some point but not in the cinema. Home viewing to absorb the film better perhaps but I honestly can’t remember any music from the film at all.

Some quick mock ups on x-wing detail and some final thoughts.

I put a display section on the x-wing cockpit to see what it would look like… So yeah I actually like this but I think it would be pretty difficult to do. But it looks like that particular section of the cockpit has exposed rivets and a sort of horizontal rack or screw mount where the display module is meant to fit.

“All the scopes are dead”. My thoughts on this are that there are not any scopes because the display panel is actually missing! But if the display module was included in the cockpit the main display should perhaps be showing some kind of static interference.

So In conclusion on this it’s something that is not easy as it is a travelling overlay and it would also require blurring when the rest of the cockpit would Blur also so many reasons against doing this but I wanted to talk about this and how I feel about it plainly.

This mock up put’s the top detail in which R2-D2 resides so that it matches the model shots of the x-wing as this version of the x-wing just does not have that top detail present. This is actually a fairly simple thing but it does cut in to the steam rising from the near side engine so a downside yet again for doing something like this is that it means an extra steam effect would be required to be added to cover the overlay that has been added.

So you can clearly see the motivation that I desire the x-wing to be more familiar to our first exposure to seeing it but even I will admit it is not without some fairly sizeable hurdles which put it perhaps at not worth the effort but I wanted to show these 2 mock ups just because I think it aligns the x-wing in ESB more with the x-wing in ANH & ROTJ.

Now there is one last thing I care to get off my chest about this particular sequence and It’s not anything related to special effects. But it is more of a very simple thought about Luke and R2-D2 in their predicament and something I have pondered.

Should Luke ask R2-D2 if he is ok?

That might sound a bit silly but it’s something that is a small thing but I think would have added quite a lot.

a simple “how you doing back there?”

or a “You ok?”

Basically they both stop talking to one another and it’s a shame their was no interaction between Luke and R2 after they crash. There is nothing in the script so there never was any interaction planned for that bit as far as I am aware.

Alien/Aliens Color Regrade (a WIP)
Time

This is a bit off topic but also kind of on topic as this thread relates to Alien and Aliens…

Well I just read that Alien 5 is being written but on hold due to the sequel to prometheus “Covenant” anyway…

The main point is that Alien 5 is basically going to be theoretically the 3rd film of a trilogy.

Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection(4) are being relegated to nightmares in Cryo Sleep

Neil Blomkampf is director the torch is being passed to an Older Newt Sigourney will no longer be the main character.

Will it be good? God knows but clever idea…

Michael Bien And Sigourney Weaver are both attached to be in the film for a part

So Alien 3 and Alien 4 are now not real…It redeems those films in a way and I can honestly see that working very well. Let’s hope it get’s done right.

Ok Been a bit slow since the last update because the tax man wanted his money… Now that is out the way and a weight off my shoulders here is a clip of Han’s Island / The Banquet.

https://vimeo.com/151438229

Now a question for Enter the Dragon Fan’s do you want Han’s (Shih Kien) Hand to be the solid metal hand unflinching or his real hand moving about?

If you do want a fix I will try but I don’t know if I have the ability on failure I would try and see if I cam find someone that would like to do this otherwise It will have to stay as is… It does not bother me greatly personally but I can understand a need to correct this problem.

please give feedback on this clip if you want to.

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

I knew you would have a go at me… It was something that I meant and not a wind up, but not something to take too seriously. I just like the model work which this project incorporates and I think that it is a wonderful thing. Basically If I were to put a more serious face on about what I said. The main problem is that the cockpit frame does not have the nose of the x-wing attached to it and that is really probably the main flaw with regards to the splash down part of the sequence not so much the crashing through the trees.

Is that ok?

Ah sorry I thought it was a mini cockpit, I admit I have not watched it since last year so my Bad. that cockpit does not have the display and yes It’s the only time we see it so no biggie. The top part is fine. Anyway It was a bit of fun about the crash not anything serious. Sorry I brought it up now. It was meant to be a bit of laugh.

But ESB is NOT a modern film =P

In all seriousness, while your suggestion is an interesting one, I don’t think modernizing the cinematics of the film is Ady’s goal with Revisited. Just my two cents.

Well it is modernish, you know I just think about the original King Kong or something like that and how they managed to achieve what they did at that time with what they had available to them. The Original Star Wars trilogy works inside that same vein and yes you are right it is charming in it’s own right and the crash is not something that bothers me greatly. I always think of revisited as a way of perhaps bringing the films up to date slightly and I just wished to put across that point about Internal shot vs external shot.

If anything it’s unusual that they did not Handle the crash shot externally for the time it was made rather than the mini cockpit plonking in the swamp. I think really that is the point to this. But yeah look at thunderbirds and Terrahawks and stuff like that. They really did great miniature shots of crashes so It’s not so much a modern thought but perhaps a retro one at the end of the day.

I debated weather I should bring this up and say something and I decided whatever just share a thought, Frink will have a go at me but never mind… So back when we were discussing the x-wing crash on Dagobah and the wings being closed so the engines were incorrect and so on.

I was wondering about the in cockpit crash and when I watched the Special fx Documentary narrated by Mark Hamill it shows the Cockpit was a mini cockpit with a camera rigged inside (explaining the cockpit inconsistancy) rigged on a wire to crash through the trees into the swamp.

Now I think the shot is somewhat effective bar the cockpit inconsistancy. Now any sort of crash in a modern film would probably be handled in an external shot of the crash rather than the way it is in Empire Strikes Back.

So I wondered had you ever thought about doing the crash “moment” (not bursting through the trees) externally using one of the x-wing models you have?
As for a set to film such a scene you need mud and water and a smoke machine which I believe is good and easy.If it was filmed in Plan view (looking down no need for green screen backgrounds) and perhaps a piece of fishing wire to pull the x-wing along or tug manually. It would be quite simple in that regard and perhaps 10x more effective. The only problem that I could see would be with the x-wing itself having to be modified with lights perhaps weighted and so on which is… Something that could be very simple then has to become more complicated unfortunately. But honestly I don’t know, it’s probably a lot more complicated than I think it would be but I will leave this vision I never shared previously with you and perhaps it’s something worth having a bit of fun with 😃

It’s a bit showy, I’ll admit. I’m guessing that it was an Abrams decision rather than Kasdan’s. I can see why people criticise it, as actually freezing a blaster bolt in mid air isn’t something we’ve seen even Vader do. But if I wanted to justify it “in-universe”, I’d probably do so by pointing out that when Vader blocked blaster bolts, he caused them to dissipate/disappear. Maybe that requires a greater mastery of the force than just holding it in place temporarily.

Maybe? :p

It’s in the script that they were meant to ricochet on to the walls when Vader blocks Han’s Blaster in the dining room of Cloud city. The Ricochet Lasers changing direction were not painted in. But the Blast marks on the side walls from the squibs are physically there on the set.

So what Vader did was not really any different to what Kylo Ren did to be honest it’s just the mistake that they made in Empire Post production so peoples view of that scene has been skewed since the films inception.

The 2 other shots that have the lasers not present was in Echo Base when Han pulls 3po through the door you can see the squibs going off in the shot and when 3PO run’s up the ramp of the Falcon in the Hanger. (you can hear the sound mix was cut to mute) the lasers were meant to fly past him. The sounds were probably still in the mix hence why you will hear no sound apart from music as he climbs the ramp because they altered the scene order and change the sequence about of their escape of being chased and shot at to not being chased and not being shot at.

You are Right but the DVD being the Special edition DVD…

The original DVD just had a trailer on it and the front cover had some writing in his sun glasses and not the red dot, The front cover was the theatrical poster.

This version had the right sounds in it. And it was also rated 18 not 15. Probably because it still retained the original sound effects and levels you can actually hear the guns being fired.

It was a dark gritty mean sound mix for a dark gritty film. 18 vs 15 version.

Give me the 18 version any day the sort of film you want to watch late at night and get a bit spooked by not an afternoon kids matinee… Sterilized is a good way to describe what has happened to make it fit with T2 a bit more.

I’d rather just get the coverted stereo version either US region 1 or the bare bones UK release at least it sounds familiar or get the the mono PCM mix if all else fails.

I’ve been dissecting a Cantonese Mix of Enter the Dragon and although it’s got plenty of extra sound contained within it you won’t hear on the Warner releases and even the theatrical mono mix of Enter the dragon it don’t sound quite right and I would assume this could also be the case on that release. But that’s a totally different film and issue as it was a dual Production from both Honk Kong and the US.

I may get the US bare bones version if all else fails

Much to my horror I put my terminator DVD in the player just now and was horrified… I have not watched it in ages but I thought I upgraded to the 2 disc special edition digi-pack. Perhaps in terms of picture but I was gutted that I have this crap sound mix on my DVD.

I’m going to have to hunt down the old version again now!

It’s totally different gun sounds and different levels of different sounds and so on.

I think the UK version that had the original mix or Mono converted stero mix was the one where there was writing on his sunglasses If I recall not just the red dot.

Enter the Dragon (a WIP)

I don’t think it was ever in the film… It’s from the trailer Han’s Island and fairly good quality I have exported it as an image sequence using Adobe media encoder and gimped it.

I cleaned it up and de-blocked the sky and removed the logo it’s in a usuable state for all 2 seconds of it.
It actually sorts the jump cut I think it goes just before the shot where Parson starts bothering Bruce Lee.

While I was at it I fixed the missing frame where Bruce ducks in the Palace Gardens Jump cut

Then I also Fixed the Shadow appearing suddenly Behind the Nurse, The Shadow is there Contantly now… That was about 120 Frames of putting Bruce shadow in between her legs 😃

The IVL Golden Harvest has most of the missing frames when Bruce hides behind the plant pots also on the Palace Gardens not sure about the Laser Disc?

So I really am quite Happy to say that I only have 1 Jump cut left. I need the footage of Mei Ling When she first goes to Bruce Lee’s Room in decent quality now wether that exists in good quality is another matter but It was in a VHS version could have been the pre-cert warner release. I am at a loss so far on this as the footage I have is just not good enough. Is the jump cut there in the Laser disc?

Both Bruce and Mei Ling by the Door

Bruce “I want to talk to you… MEI-LING”

Mei Ling “SHHH!!”

Jump cut suddenly sitting down

Mei Ling “We must be quiet”

^ This is something I would love to sort out with the missing footage… You know the missing footage could have been in the late night ITV UK Broadcasts years ago I had this version on Betamax and it was my first exposure to the film. I have no idea wether I even remember this being different or not, I am pretty sure though that my memory has served me well for a lot of what was there before and what has changed with the sound mix and I think this was different.

The other difference although due to censorship was Bruce went out into the Garden through the Patio doors and then the dog runs out and attacks him. The whole creeping about in the Main Banquet room has nothing to do with the first night out or atleast I think it is the second night out where he get’s captured because he goes a different way so as to avoid the German Shepard. and the footage of him going out the door into the corridor suited up with rope also suggests this is the case. I’m not really sure what to do yet about this but there won’t be any other major change other than this if I decide to do it footage depending but It would restore the version I saw as a kid and perhaps put things in a more sensible order. Undecided really.

^This whole sequence was never in the old UK version before the internet… Movie-censorship is talking about the warner VHS re-release 😃 not the TV cut perhaps

DECISION = I won’t be changing this part but I want to sort out the scene with Betty Chung / Mei Ling

Time

Happy New Year…

Time for a quick update.

I am about half way through this now or very nearly half way.

The Video is practically done up to the banquet scene and the audio is more or less done up until Bruce goes out into the palace gardens at night.

Here is a quick list of what has been done so far.

Video

Color correction on parts of the film source that needs it
Cut Abbot scene restored original transition and music
Extra Footage of Diver pulling girl up the beack only found in Fortune star release and extra shot of Bruce
Extra shots of Bruce and his Dad and Buddha transition restored
Exrea shots of Bruce getting to his room before the Banquet

Audio

Extra Birdsong at the start of main music opening
Lao makes a yell before Bruce tells him off for Anger rather than “Emotional Content” (Cantonese mix)
New Sound mix on Bruce Flashback incorporating all extra sound from Cantonese mix bar crows in Grave yard
Added sound of Girl talking to mother during Roper’s Boat Ride
Kids Laughter at Williams waving Cantonese mix
Restored Police Siren and kept music also enhanced sound effects during williams Flash Back (night)
New Sound Mix when the Boat Departs incorporating sound effects from Cantonese mix
When Parsons Get’s tricked to getting on the boat the crew Laughter has been used from Cantonese mix also
AT the Jetty Sound for guards with crates and footsteps used from Cantonese Mix
The Banquet new Sound mix and extra music at the end only found in Cantonese Mix
Bruce training in his room has a new sound mix incorporating the Cantonese mix
Extra Sound for the Guards training in the courtyard
Sound mix almagamated during sections of Williams and Ropers Fights particularly the crowd (Cantonese mix)
The old man Gambling with Williams and Roper now has a voice

So I’ll post a clip soon, but I also have a question about the Bruce Lee ultimate Box set (Fortune Star) Does anyone have it?

And can anyone tell me what the special feature entails “Unseen Footage” on the Bonus Disc?

Is this to do with Game of Death or is it all his films? Apparently it is set to music…

Many Thanks

I plan to post a clip for the Banquet soon but currently the audio and video are not married up in the editor.

Whoops extra footage that I missed!!!

Williams watches Parsons being a prick on the boat… This will need to be de-logoed but this is definitely worth it as later he smashes his face in so I think this will be a nice addition.

If you can point me to extra footage please do so!

As you can see the Monk Scene has been cut from this version now. Sorry but It had to go for numerous reasons. There will be other bits of extra footage though some are already in the timeline and look good and I can see that works.

The project has grown in scope a bit, as I am doing a lot of color correction (whole film) I hope you like what I have done just want it to look a bit more like it used too. I am using the old Warner special edition actually the Diagostini release I got as the sound mix is better balanced and more similar to how I remember the film and the Cantonese version for extra audio mainly but there is one extra bit of footage from there.

As this is the first major edit I have ever decided to do as I have always just messed about a bit, I would like to encourage anyone that can give feedback and give me any hints or tips to make better please let me know.

I am in for the long Haul on this one. I am about 50 minutes through the film color corrected and some have had a second pass. Some of the color correction was very difficult but I think some of the shots look better than whats in the 25th Anniversary edition which is soft and furry like the new Blu Ray.

Basically I am on a steep learning curve with new software and stuff so bare with me, If it means I have to start again I will because this is something I really want to do. and I have struggled to find the movie I want to do… this is the one.
