Info: Bad news for anybody wanting to use the deleted scenes in a TFA fanedit or extended edition
Time

It seems that JJ Binks has ruled out an extended cut.

But from the Collider Interview it seems as though some of the VFX chiefs want an extended cut… That’s what comes across in that video that they wanted all the shots done and put out. Just because I suppose that is part of what they do.

The Best possible deleted scene I have read about is the Rey being hunted down by the Alien that they stole the Falcon off. She tries to use her gun and get’s disarmed. This is in Maz’s castle. Chewie then rips one of his arms off and throws it on a table where some aliens are playing a game.

Weather or not this was filmed this is the sort of thing extended cut’s are made of. I would wait a bit. Even one of the visual effects chiefs said he would sign a petition. So there you go. There is willing within Lucusfilm (the mouse house) but they don’t have final say.

could be a game of cat and mouse…

http://collider.com/star-wars-the-force-awakens-deleted-scenes-maz-snowspeeder-rathtar/

^This Link gives information about more dogfighting around Star killer base that was cut and more to the Rathtar Sequence (not sure if I spelled it right) There is obviously more to Phasma being put in the trash compactor and Star Killer actually firing on the Planets some sort of scene missing there.

I have not yet seen the ones released but, sounds like the x-wing’s going to light speed is the best offering seen so far.

I reckon the Maz scene will be good.

My bet is they are holding off for an extended cut.

But also obviously the whole knights of Ren sequence is being held off until episode 8 and the conversation between Rey and Luke is all shot for episode 8 by JJ already. They just decided to hold that for later in episode 8. So that accounts for the other 20 minutes. Cut on Purpose.

20 minutes cut speed up the film. So your looking at about a 10 - 15 minutes extended cut. of which you have seen around 5 minutes which will not be in the extended cut or atleast targeted to be cut.

Re-work the site so it's main focus is not about fan editing or preservations entirely.
Time

I have been thinking about this sort of sub-consciously. But I do feel there is an issue regarding the site and how it comes across to an average person with no interest in fan editing themselves or doing any sort of video preservation.

Is there enough for an average person to sink their teeth in to here, just to perhaps talk about Star Wars or Other films and just be happy people talking about stuff.

I think you need to move with the times and attract new Blood and re-build a more active community that is not just people who focus on Video Editing or what not. Not just Technical is what I am saying.

The Star wars General Discussion is poorly catergorised.

It should be something in the Vein of.

Star Wars Movies
Star Wars Comics
Star Wars Models
Star Wars Toys / Games
Star Wars Books
Star Wars Art (official)
Star Wars News
Star Wars Memoribilia (trading)
Star Wars General Discussion
Star Wars Music and Sound effects

You Definitley need a general film Discussion Board. (The Comment against the off Topic Subforum is enough to scare any new user away)

Off topic for everything else…

Creative Star Wars section = Fan edits / Preservations / Disc Labels /Artwork / scripts
Creative Other Section = As Above for other films.

This community does accomplish great things there are no two ways about it. But I don’t think it does enough to attract average or casual fans that would create a much more diverse mixture of people and better organized.

I also want to add I think it is the greatest Star Wars fan site but I think it could be much better for casual fans.

Although I know the front Page is going to be re-designed. The Petition for The Original Star Wars Films to be released is really what this Site is about!!!

That does not come across at all, it’s not in any way intuitive, this should be the top title of your Menu.

The Goal of Original Trilogy.com - To have the Original Films released Officially in HIgh Quality and preserved and made availble to the general public. This should link to the petition thread and the petition itself. People need to know the message loud and clear. If there currently is not a petition active let people know and why…

Theatrical cut’s vs Special Editions = Fighting with one another / having a punch up / Bad wording /competitive. This should be in a Versions of Star Wars catergory. And should have a sticky thread for the History of the Star Wars films and their various iterations. As it is much broader than this as a subject. And is Part and parcel to your mission so it should also be educational for Casual fans to want to join your mission.

All of this should be joined together in your mission and top title along with sites supporting.

So I think what I am talking about is branching the site better and finding better relationships between subjects but also making that branching more intuitive.

The Star Wars general though is really a mess and it would be great to see that split and populated by more people talking about the new films and all the new stuff and old. This is something you really need to capitalize on and grow a place for new fans to the series franchise.

Estimating the original colors of the original Star Wars trilogy
Time

Out of all the Original Trilogy the film I have most looked at is Empire Strikes Back.

There are definitely some shots that I think have plain wrong Color in the Original. Now you may just want to match the colors to the theatrical prints which is fine if that is what you want to do.

But in the case of an error which I think there are a few in Empire that just don’t look right what then?

The shots that don’t look correct I think are the Asteroid Canyon Explosion element. (needs separate correction)

And I also think the Planet Bespin might not also be right. Are there any images of that planet not used in the film as a raw image or production still of the planet. I think it was meant to be Brown and white can anyone confirm this?

found this ^

Also much of the Blue is gone from Cloud City Skies. In fact the film is a nightmare to do with Blue / cyan spectrum in some bits. But it sometimes tips the other direction to Red / Yellow. And also sometimes the magenta too.

What you have to remember is when anything is combined (i.e. Bluescreen the individual elements often need separate correction not lumped together as one image because they are not one whole image they are two combined) It needs different handling especially with Empire, all the skies and so on. This is the main weirdness on the Bluescreen shots not the actual footage when there is no Bluescreen present.

I’d be interested what you get from the asteroid canyon explosion anyway without color correcting the Falcon with it.

It compares the German VHS to the German DVD. Maybe we have to seek out a German VHS? I don’t remember if I saw it in theaters, I mostly remember it from HBO. Anyone have an HBO recording?

I can confirm that the version I grew up watching was the one on TV in the UK. Years a go but I remember it.

It definitely had the Ship Rolling down the Hill and crashing with funny carnival music and the other scene where he get’s punched in the nose.

Yeah Silverwook the Music was Great in this!

Could "Force Vision" explain how Leia knows what her mother looks like? Discussion
Time

If you look in the early draft
For ROTJ script Luke was meant to keep his secret knowledge of Leia being his sister until the end of the film. Like Obi-wan told him

They are also wearing the same clothes as at the end of the film.

So I think it is better that it happens later. The only problem is.

“The force runs strong in my Family… I have it and my sister has it” but I thought this is the best handling I could come up with.

"Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival." What was the point?
Time

You are right I wrote it in a hurry before going out with my friends.

But it is important because a debate about this part of the film was raging for years about weather Luke’s Hand and Lightsaber fell in to the clouds below. It was just a part of the weather vane

Nobody really totally understood why we saw that because the conclusion of the weather vane snapping and Luke falling was never shown. So people were trying to understand what it was they were seeing and were giving it another meaning. Which nobody can blame them for that (myself included at one point).

Because the meaning of the scene is obsolete because they changed it.

And Yoda training Luke to do Handstands and Lift up Objects is also Obsolete In a way… Not entirely but I think the training was to do with dealing with this predicament.

"Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival." What was the point?
Time

I have been looking at Luke’s rescue in a lot of detail recently. And basically the conclusion I have come to about the sequence as it was meant to be is what is in the Empire Strikes Back Comic Book.

The Weather Vane was meant to Snap and the Falcon Reaches Luke Just in time to save Luke from Falling.

The Sequence has been heavily modified for some reason. But if you have the Comic Book you will see in there how the orignal version of the sequence was meant to play out.

The whole thing about a piece of the weather Vane snapping off now continues on that it breaks under Lukes weight entirely. I think it is a bit of a loose end that this is not what actually was in the film as this is what was actually “Meant” to be in the film.

Cinematically I imagine the shot to be from Below or even above the Weather Vane falls past the camera and Luke get’s scooped up. It’s quite a short thing all in all.

But all footage points to this being the case, just everything was changed to try and make it something that it was never really intended to be.

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

I am not making suggestions but I am looking for Answers.

Right let’s just take what we know in to account.

That blue screen shot where Lando drags Luke across the Falcon is not a missing scene from the movie this is an old abandoned concept from when Luke falls a long way and the Falcon scoops him up. Luke even bounces off the cockpit window I mean come on never meant to make the film totally different. This is the conclusion I have come to about this.

I am also ruling out the novelization scenario of blast from ties and the falcon rocks Lando grabs Luke’s hand stops him from falling off the edge …just not enough time for this. And the music rules out explosions entirely

The only other shot that has an image is as far as I can tell is that shot of the exterior Hatch set. Now this Hatch has hazard strips on it and does not look like part of the falcon exterior (wrong looking) so did George Freak out about this?

This is the only thing I can think of as a better answer than Mark Hamil got injured summer 1979 because I am not sure I totally trust this entirely even if it is true.

And well done on Hoth Hanger I can’t wait to see it fully realized!

I’ve wondered if this Verta stuff has something to do particularly with Star Wars. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Star Wars worse for wear, even relative to the other two? Maybe they already have restorations of Empire and Jedi and are unhappy with what they have for SW given the source material and talent available to them.

The last time there was due to be another version of Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi was the 3D re-releases. This was most likely the scans done by reliance media works. But don’t hold me to that but I’ll admit that is my best guess on what those were for.

This was not entirely a bad idea to try and stick them in the cinema and in 3D (note the past tense).

But there are many reasons why The Original Star Wars Trilogy and even the Special Editions will not covert to 3D even though they will partially extremely well. Can you imagine trying to convert other films from the 70’s and 80’s in to 3D? Basically it’s a put your glasses on / take your glasses off scenario. The last time those types of 3D films Ran was way back in the late 80’s or early 90’s.

All in all, the 3D versions has either been canceled or the OT has been silently and secretly re-vamped to a fully fledged 3D experience on par with 3D releases today… I would imagine it was canceled.

So how do you keep flogging the Special Edition?

The Simple answer in short is you can not unless you keep making updated special editions.

Flaws, plotholes, and &quot;could-have-been-done-betters&quot; in the OT (alternate plot points especially welcome)
Time

Well it was a bit of a joke but… Yeah he senses him and hunts him down like he did before because he knows Obi-wan is no longer around to train Luke.

Unlike in the films he keeps on saying “Obi-wan has taught you well” even though he killed obi-wan after a few days. Obi-wan as a ghost only really provided guidance for Luke not really any proper training or at the very least it was quite minimal.

He was not meant to die in star wars that is why Yoda was created so Luke had a mentor again. But Vader was meant to hunt down and murder the Jedi was he not?

It’s either that or propel Yoda into the plot somehow other than just die peacefully. So that Hero death was a bit of a weak point.

If anything it was a missed opportunity Vader and Yoda in a scene together whatever the outcome it would have been really interesting.

I could actually imagine more Yoda and the Emperor with some cool dialogue and perhaps Vader Subdues in the background perhaps the Emperor sends in his muscle on Yoda or something like that.

In ROTJ Vader should have showed up on Dagobah and killed Yoda.

Off screen of course. YODA Should just go to sleep when he is talking to Luke.

There now that makes you hate Vader again rather than sissy Vader.

He wants to rule the Galaxy and nobody shall oppose him. 😃

Somone really need to die on the good side to make you feel like they were really struggling against the tyranny. But yeah the Yoda thing is a bit of a joke…

Enter the Dragon (a WIP)
Time

Ok Here is an update…

Very little has been done on this since January, because I was very busy with work and I also got a bit distracted by looking at something else.

But I have needed some time to let things settle for me on this also.

Now Silverwook here has been good enough get me the footage I needed for the end. And I really want to finish this off. For me and hopefully for him too and anyone else. But you can not rush through these things they take time.

I am hlafway though as I previously stated but the last half is nowhere near as complex as this first half has been or at least I do not think it will be.

Some final thoughts on the first half.

The English dub will be removed when the Monk say’s “stay back” to O’hara he will be silent and approach him before slashing his face. complete with missing sound effect for the slash. Silverwook has seen this (but without this change) and I have only shown him. But I do think this is a great moment in the film this sequence and I am overall happy with it. The Monk also say’s I think “Go!” “Run!” and then in Cantonese “Go” to Bruce Lee’s sister which finally snaps her out of the shock.

In the Clip I posted the Banquet you will notice when Parsons is stuck on the Boat a crew member shouts “That’s it!” probably for the take of the shot. So that is going to be removed also.

I also want to use Dr Dre’s tool to try and restore the shot’s of Betty Chung and Bruce perhaps even try PFclean trial also.

I will post a clip soon for the Parsons Williams Fight over Easter.

But any fans of this film have something they want to say about it?

Here are the fixes For Jump cuts

Missing Frames fix 1

https://vimeo.com/159954064

Shadow fix 1

https://vimeo.com/159954387

I also fixed the Parsons Williams fight where the film slips out of the scanner using the 25th anniversary scan as it does not happen on this scan but matching it to the colors of the older version.

If you go to 0:48 on this video you will see the slip.

Good find. It’s all up to Adywan but very interesting. If I can recall, for ANH:R he cleaned up so messy musical cues during the Tuskens gearing up in that scene.

It’s not as straightforward as the Tusken Raiders but there is an awful lot of fun to be had with it and I think it is gorgeous when it all lines up. At the end of the day it’s never been right due to the injury Mark Hamil had and the shots were never completed but it’s also a bit of a bad excuse also from Lucusfilm, so I don’t care if Ady keeps it as he has it from July clip.

I think I am just excited because I noticed a certain shot has been deleted which is one of three (perhaps sort of 2) that complete the sequence. That would leave a choice of a better music edit at the very least. So I am keeping my fingers crossed he’s on it already and way ahead because he is a genius.

Retro Rockets dude!

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>

Dear Revisited Team,

Something I have been personally studying for quite a long time is the music cues in the Empire Strikes Back. Now I felt I had finished some months a go but I realized recently there were some things left unaddressed.

I have recently made a very interesting discovery with regard to Lukes Rescue music from under cloud city.

I feel that I have got a very solid music cue for this part that it seems has always been plagued by bad music edits from the 16mm to the original film and yes even worse in the Special Edition.

I would ask you to check this in the unused music thread here on OT in Star Wars fan edits.

Now here is the important information about it. It seems that the miniature Lando that sticks his head out of the Falcon Hatch is the Alien footage. This was stuffed in there as a fix. The Special Edition Panders to this footage being stuffed in creating extra hatches just so this piece of alien footage that throws the music out the window can be kept. When the correct music cues are added the original Hatches open and close perfectly in time with the music. When you remove the footage of the miniature Lando and extend Lando’s shot of Lando coming out the Hatch from Below Looking about. When Luke falls He Lands on the Falcon exactly in time with the music.

So whatever you do, be sure to trust in the music. Although the problem here seems to stem from Mark Hamil receiving an Injury during filming and the shots were apparently never finished. The music is there for something other than the miniature Lando that pops his head out and the silly extra hatches that are on the whole not needed. In fact they are all just creating further problems rather than fixing anything.

Anyway Thank god the Return of the Jedi Footage has been removed.

I have now finished my work on the music and can gladly walk away from it, it’s been very enjoyable. I hope you can enjoy it too.

In your comments which are correct the painted engine glow sans star destroyer to accompany it was removed.

But actually that was a missing star destroyer element. The engine glow was done but the star destroyer got missed in the original film.

Bit of trivia there.

But the Special Edition did not do “the right” thing

THere are meant to be 5 star destroyers and the Executor. One of the Star destroyers is hidden behind the Executor we see it drop down a few shots earlier.

Just got back from seeing High Rise (Ben Wheatley)

I Like this guys films a lot and I think he has done a good job but not his best film. No punches are pulled though in this and I have to say I did thoroughly enjoy it. I would watch it again for sure so I give it.

8/10

But opinions are way divided on this film but as a social satire come surrealist movie set in High Rise Luxury flats in the 70’s living outside of the rest of society this film is beautifully realized and also rather comical. But it’s also a thriller too.

not a popcorn movie

ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!
Time

No I never said it was wrong… But in one Hand you are complaining about baseball bat lightsabre, and in the other we have a shot with a similar inconsistancy because unfortunately the special effects did not work.

I don’t think you can lay any real serious blame on Jedi for not doing this in the 80’s but today however it would be a given because of film making technological advancement.
