Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *

The storyboard does indeed picture it as a tie bomber type craft. But it’s really hard to make anything out even in the HD video. Basically in the close up (if you can call it that) on Needa’s shuttle it has a long black strip across the back.

The shot in the trailer seems to also have this long black strip across the back. That is all I am saying.

The wings appear to be totally different unless they could some how fold in to that shape?

Probably clutching at straws With this… but let’s hope this was the secret design that we have never seen until now 😃

Actually I did not recognize the female actress Felicity Jones but she did a very good job in the Stephen Hawking film “The Theory of everything” But in that she played a struggling wife coming to terms with her husbands regression in to becoming disabled. It was as much about her as it was about Stephen Hawking

She did do ever so well in this so perhaps she might just be a bit misunderstood the way the trailer is made but then again look at Natalie Portman who was sheer brilliance in Black Swan but awful in the Star Wars Prequels.

It really does not matter if it’s a woman or a man in the Lead role but it is important to find the right person who can believe in the fantasy.

Right I never noticed there was a trailer until just now…

Ok yeah AT-AT’s look cheap not sold what happened to Mr Gareth “Godzilla” Edwards?

I really like the Death Star Dish Retracting

I Like Yavin Base being re-created

I liked the snippet of battle with storm troopers

So Another Woman Heroine… Not sure how strong she came across not anywhere near as strong as Forest Whitaker though.

Jungle water planet? Ady brought up a good point about the moisture vaporators what if the water was poisonous?

Hmmm I think you can expect lower budget spinoff on first impressions. Is ILM doing the special effects?

Theatrical 1979 Empire Strikes Back Trailer Restored (Released)
Time

Ok Jonno, I agree that you can tell that the shots from the trailer need a bit of sharpening and the gain and contrast and color need adjusting but it could easily sit next to that footage much more seemlessly if more was done to it.

But it’s still a good effort to re-create the trailer, and it’s honestly the first attempt I have seen to actually do this and not use other footage from the film rather than shots that were not in the movie only found in the trailer.

So I respected that decision.

http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-360-view-the-force-awakens-set-panoramas-at-starwars-com

This was posted the other day on starwars.com

I think it is a lot of fun but also could be used as a pretty good resource for some of the panels and particularly the dashboard lights which we never see due to Bluescreen problems. I am not an expert on how the Falcon has changed but some of it is surely the same. I noticed a few differences yeah. But what I like about it is you can understand the angle of the dashboard relative to the windows. I am not suggesting you make the Falcon cockpit the same as the force awakens let’s be clear about that. I just like the dashboard lights and the rear panels in the 360 degree photo. And I think it’s cool.

Edit

I have been looking at shots in the film and comparing the dashboard and going by this 360 photo there is many interesting things. But the 2 most important I think is the cylinder at the back of the central divide of the Falcon Dashboard was meant to be Blue? We see this right at the end of the film.

And the small display in the center dashboard is lit blue when Leia is saying “We have to go Back” when they escape cloud city as you can see a grey square in the middle of the display. Lando was looking at it a couple of shots earlier.

But yeah many Blue and white Lights are Black and grey.

Info: Bad news for anybody wanting to use the deleted scenes in a TFA fanedit or extended edition
Time

Well the ILM visual fx chief suggested to start a petition and he would back it.

It’s not like I thought of it. To be honest I have not signed it but I think if Chewie rips an aliens arms off in it. Yeah I want to see it.

are these deleted scenes a marketing ploy they are not even showing the full scenes so perhaps it’s a tease.

^This is the active petition to release an extended cut of the force awakens

I’ll tell you now though Maz Katana going back to the rebel base will never be in an extended edition or I seriously doubt it. This was very purposefully changed and demanded re-shoots.

There was a 35mm scan done of the trailer here

http://thestarwarstrilogy.com/starwars/post/2014/02/10/Empire-Strikes-Back-35mm-1982-Re-release-Trailer-in-1080p

But they added a watermark in some bits so it might be worth asking them if you can get the file to do a proper restoration if you want to that is. Bear in mind also that this version only seems to be available in a cropped version. I can not seem to find an un-cropped version of this trailer anywhere in a proper widescreen ratio. And I am a bit gutted that it does not seem to exist.

There is also the Vivaldi trailer which is proper scope 2:35:1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CroqdjDv82s

But the only missing footage here is the extended R2-D2 on tippy toes as Kershner put it. Other than that it’s Blue Lasers. by far the best Narration though.

@Jonno - Earl Twiss just replaced the scenes that were not in the film so they are not the original trailers! 😃

This was rather good!

Is there any chance you can have a go at the re-release trailer also for Empire? That one also has a lot of deleted scenes in it. There is better stuff in the trailers than there is on the Blu-Ray.

Many of these little snippets were in the film until the late stages and either fix problems or enable music and dialogue to be restored in one instance.

Anyway Good work!

Been looking at the Bunk, and I noticed that the slope down on the top edge needs to be on the other side. So the Bunk needs Flipping horizontal. Or I think it does… I am going by the shot of Leia in the film where she says “I’ll be back” (actually perhaps only the top edge?)

But I do think it works a treat!

Or is it a totally different Bunk?

OK Tournament Round 1 As promised

https://vimeo.com/161281399

I am no expert but if you think you can give me some pointers in the right direction to get the color correction better balanced please fire away. Audio is not final but the missing sounds are added I am trying and improving over time. It’s not final yet.

Comparison 40th Anniversary Edition

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tekMFaU4puU

Remember it’s meant to be a grind house type of release and not perfect anyway. Is that George Takei (Sulu) with a stick?

Restored Music and deleted scenes.

https://vimeo.com/161529300

^ this is totally wrong but I am leaving it there anyway. This Edit may be about to get quite radical. Last update for a while. Actually if nobody is interested here I will post it somewhere else talking to brick wall of nothing.

Yeah it is’nt in HD so fucking what. Go out and buy the 40th Anniversary edition with bad colors missing sound effects missing music and some pretty questionable editing from special edition to even the original.

4K restoration on Star Wars

Hopefully they’re not still considerring 3D conversions.

I both agree and disagree with this. I think the Original Film needs to be restored and released but I would also like it to be made more accessible to another generation of people.

I would like a new version but not a revisionist version that is just all CGI and a bunch of “New Ideas” about making it new and accessible.

But if it was left on the cutting room floor I’d be cool with that. Like Luke Snapping the scout troopers neck before throwing him off the speeder bike. It really is a snippet but it’s not CGI crap it’s of the time. It’s in keeping with what was envisioned. Do you catch my drift there. If they improved the matte paintings with proper miniatures and stuff then you know this is the stuff to actually make it 3D.

No more pancakes and no more crap CGI “make it real” but it will never happen.
