Info Wanted: 'Mad Max Fury Road' - no b&w or silent version?
Time

I see it as more a political statement by George Miller.

I think he perhaps wishes to convey how visually lazy a lot of modern movies are and perhaps, yes too many movies rely too heavily on dialogue. He can do this while holding an armful of awards. And rightly so.

A film that I am also very fond of is “All is Lost” with Robert Redford. There is very few moments of dialogue the story is told through events that happen and facial expressions and desperation. It conveys the sense of being all alone and in big trouble, trapped.

“Buried” is another good example of a film that uses Dialogue quite sparingly again alone and trapped.

Mad Max Fury Road - It does not fit in to the same mold of being alone and trapped, and personally I think he did an amazing job with the film he delivered theatrically and technically.

I am not trying to influence your opinion before you see it, but I am interested in it also. I just feel a bit skeptical about it, not saying I would not like to see it personally but I am not sure I will enjoy the film as much as with the dialogue. The Black and White does not bother me in the slightest. Without the Dialogue you miss a lot of the culture of “that world” and no Mad Max film has ever been silent before.

It’s also George Miller’s preferred version, which some people might consider giving its due.

It could be brilliant but it’s an alternative and it is not a good first exposure to the film as you would not understand what is going on without seeing the theatrical film first.

Would putting “Beyond Thunderdome” in Black & White and no dialogue with only music improve this film?

I am just saying that it is an alternative and I would not be surprised if there are mixed feelings on it after people see this version; and it also does not seem to differentiate itself in terms of different footage as in it is very much the same cut in Black and white with no dialogue.

Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *

is ‘rogue one’ the death star itself?

It’s the origin for the military callsign “Rogue” for the team on the mission (Rebels).

We don’t get to hear of Rogue Squadron until the Empire Strikes Back (although it was adopted from the small group and became a full squadron).

There was also a “Renegade” Squadron but they are sadly never mentioned.

Rogue Squadron fought the AT-AT invasion in the snow speeders and Renegade Squadron helped the transports escape.

Yes, but can we please get past the point of people condemning me as boasting or being big headed.

Read through the thread and think Rogue one and not Revisited.

Muddyknees - Zatoixhi (Donnie Yen plays a blind swordsman)

It’s literally a goldmine of ideas and you can apply many references in that thread how to make a decent prequel. Seeing as we don’t know what that film is totally about it is hard to tell what other ideas have been used or re-purposed from here. But I have no doubt in my mind that it was used for ideas how to make a prequel like the OT.

Well done on the crawls Ady can not be bothered with the attitudes I won’t post again.

It’s your thread. It’s got a lot of great conversation and ideas in it.

But say Ady likes an idea in there from someone else and he want’s to use it and then it get’s re-purposed and used in one of these new films it makes those ideas obsolete or idea’s that are dead and done.

It’s a difficult situation with new movies being churned out. What a great free resource we are here.

Potentially the concern is any possible undermining and the speed at which the team here can work at vs all the new films being churned out. And people in general perhaps coming up with something only for it to be taken or just even very similar.

I think you really are missing the point. It has nothing to do with me personally I just urge caution to say keep ideas perhaps especially any visual iconography rather than plot’s and fixes quiet. Especially the Teams work whatever they have planned on shot angles or special effects for instance. At least until it’s video.

But then even plot talk about the PT there could be re-purposed for these new set’s of films. Making PT:R a lot harder.

It’s a very good thread and I read through a lot of it yesterday.

I would say that although many bad to great ideas get chucked about here.

Despite the appearance of a period, I’m still waiting for the end of that sentence.

Also, I love that you think someone making an actual Hollywood movie came here and used an idea of yours.

Are you a human being or are you something else?

http://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/758337

There is the post.

I have had a hand in a few major creative projects in an unofficial capacity. But in this instance I did not give the idea to the people who have used it. I was just talking here.

I was responsible for the scary orc thing that pops up in the graveyard in Mortal Kombat 9

and I also contributed a lot of Ideas to The re-iteration of the Far Cry game series but I am not in to computer games anymore I just can not stand them. Really bored of them.

And if you liked Half life I helped out a bit on a scene in Black Mesa for the surface tension chapter of the game where the soldier throws a satchel bomb in the pipe and it explodes. So I figured out a hackish way to make it happen.

That is probably about it really nothing that amazing but people used my ideas.

And I have gradually veered away from major productions to want to be with people who are trying to make independant productions of some kind.

There are eyes that draw upon this place. It seems best to keep your ideas quiet until you actually make it or achieve the idea. Rather than blurt it all out. One of my ideas ended up in Rogue one of the death star appearing like a solar eclipse so I personally won’t he be having any more of those publicly.

They stole the plans alright.

Raiders of the Lost Ark HDTV 35mm LPP regrade

Here’s the sky from the LPP:

Yes That’s it! in the DVD it is just grey (magenta tinged) clouds. That is why I guessed the 35mm would be the same but it seems it’s right sort of Blue / cyan color without any major tints which I am surprised about. Because I thought that the 35mm would closer reflect the DVD in this instance.

I have a feeling Marion and the Mummy skeleton is not that green color thinking about it. I don’t remember that. it was more sort of purpleish (not pink).

But the truck chase I really do remember those colors I shit you not. It had that greenish color really dirty when it was on TV in the UK. I distinctly remember that look with the cyan sky. And I watched that sequence so many times on VHS because I really liked the music and the action.

It’s nice to rattle the memory bells and yeah it’s obvious now the promo pics vs frames. are those frames 100% reliable I would say the truck chase definitely rings bells. And I also think Belloq at the top with the ark in a crate rings bells too (no yellow). Same for Nazi with the burnt hand looks familiar sort of color, Ball rolling Blue light yep I remember that.

And Electric Blue Sky above the opening of the snake pit.

I think that is really all there is to take away from those pics.

Sorry yeah you are right some of those photos are promo photo’s but some of them are not.

I watched the DVD yesterday and became aware of this then…

There is one photo of a deleted scene. That shot of the idol. That was when it’s animatronic eyes were meant to move. 😃

I hope the shots that are not promo photos are a bit helpful even though they are small.

What does that sky look like in the 35mm above the well of souls?

I seem to remember that electric blue sky. There is no lightning in that shot…

I am also curious about Marion and the mummy having a blue / turquoise tint. Unless it is a misleading book.

If it is Magenta in the 35mm you have then it is meant to be blue. The turquoise will probably be more pink rather than that jade turquoise. Going by what I have seen so far.

It’s a shame about the fake added dirt on some of the photo’s but, this about the last of it.

That sky in the top left photo…

But then the shot here seems to be from the Blu Ray or the 35mm is gone very yellow. The Book was printed in 2008.

This very well may explain why the Blu-Ray is so yellow. Because the first picture in this thread certainly looks right on the 35mm and it has that Blue atmospheric cool tone. Which you can clearly see in the Stone Ball rolling picture.

Belloq stealing the Idol from Indy also seems to have the yellow syndrome in the pictures where others do not.

(Certainly Reel 1 went yellow)

I Think it’s pretty safe to say that their print went yellow. Litemakr’s scan seems to have an issue with magenta and blue mainly… But it does seem that litemakr’s scan is a good if not better reference although like I said it’s not without faults but they are minimal.

I came across a book in a charity shop today bought it and I scanned these for you… Not sure if it’s much help but here you go.

I think they look very much like the 35mm colors, or at least it looks like what I remember the film looking like.

Hope it does help though there is a few more images in there but not many. It’s awkward to scan because it is quite a big book and the photo’s are small.

The colors for the Idol or golden fertility statue are a total match so It seems these are a good reference on the 35mm or taken from the 35mm

while I am here…

Just FYI I think this shot is rather perplexing in both the 35mm and the DVD, it’s like chalk and cheese to compare the two different colors.

But I do think that the DVD in this shot needs the Hue changing. That does account for quite a bit of the difference in skin tones.

It’s definitely a Cyan not Blue sky and the sand should be less red and more yellow.

But this is actually a better reference than the 35mm IMHO.

Stargate Reimagined: Part I *COMPLETE*

It looks like I’ll be returning to work on this screenplay soon, so in preparation I’ve made some alterations to the previously submitted entries to bring the script in line with my revised plot; I completely cut out the prologue set in 8000 BCE, among numerous other less-significant changes.

I’d just like to say that from this moment forward, the story of this remake will diverge from the story of the original film in a particularly significant way. Not to give away any spoilers, but you won’t find a white saviour narrative here.

Just been having a little read of this. And It’s quite good 😃

Just FYI the opening 8000 BC part was originally meant to be much longer and would have opened on hunters returning to the village. A strange shape was seen passing against the moon as they roasted the Animals they had caught for Dinner. Not saying you should incorporate this but just giving you some information.

There is a great chapter in the novel called “In The Beginning…” And it gives a lot of history to the Enslaved Earth people and the uprising too.

Keep up the good work 😃

Enter the Dragon (a WIP)
Time

Ok so the time has come to share the last parts of what I have done with the film so far…

Now I have done my best and I have tried and tried and although I am much happier with the way it is in the edit since discovering many things about this film, I know there is still room from improvement. I am no expert, on film restoration, far from it, but I can still see some problems and I have also missed a couple of things in the clips that you will find below. I have missed a music cue when the doors slam shut on Bruce in the cave from theatrical, and I have also missed Bruce lee’s voice when he punches the reflection of Han from theatrical. There is possibly more, I will apologize for this and this will all be fixed.

I am thinking of upscaling this to 720p using super resolution also but not before I have done another color pass.

It needs one more pass in terms of color and the Su-lin Flashback needs the sound mix re-done and the Banquet, but I am still sharing what I have done so far. I honestly hope you enjoy it… But I know deep down inside although I want to declare it “finished” it is most of the way there but it’s still not there yet. Patience is a virtue. Don’t be afraid to to say what you think especially if you do not like something or anything has stood out to you as “I don’t like that” I know you can never please everyone but… I don’t want a huge objection and I have not had any yet so great, but don’t be silent if you have a problem or if you think something can be better.

Very Special Thanks to Silverwook also.
