I thought that clip was great and I now am getting a sense of Felicty Jones character much more from that clip than any of the trailers. She is a good actress. And I liked the gag too 😃

Seeing quite a bit of cutting away from the actual action though and there looks like there is at least one shot that does not go in the sequence where she hit’s the storm trooper with the big gun in the head. So I’ll say this much there is some sort of missing shot’s there and part of it can be seen in one of the trailers.

The stormtroopers Cassien Bags are off screen too which is a bit of a shame.

What did I say about trims in the trailer!!! Weather that reflects the final edit though?

To be honest it seems that Felicty and Fallon were acting out part of the missing footage to tease us.

Another pinch of salt but very promising and enjoyable.

This article has Spoilers but there are no spoiler images. But it does reveal a bit about a sequence nothing too spoilerific though. It’s quite interesting and worth a read.

There is also going to be a twitter stream on 2nd December with Gareth Edwards and some of the cast. You don’t have to be a member of Twitter to stream the event which lasts an Hour.

Will defo tune in to that.

Word is that half of the film was a re-shoot after the studio was not happy with it. Not always the case, but the vast majority of the time that is a really bad sign.

My source who has seen part of the film says it looks good but the writing is garbage. Just more nostaligia fanfic nonsense. Take it as you want.

People have stated that the preview shown in Mexico was a promo edit and scenes are missing. Take that review with a pinch of Salt. If you are right and I agree with you it looks great but essentially it’s a clanger… But right now I have hope. 😃

There has been about 4-5 writers doing bit’s on it some of them very, very talented.

I Trust Gareth and Gilroy to pull this off, It’s really ambitious much more so than TFA

I’ll go on the record to say I wish we got proper conversation in the trailers to get a sense of how well the characters work together but this has been better than TFA trailers in that regard. Much more conversation but could do with more.

If there are name cards for the planets then you know that Gareth Edwards lost control. Seriously Doubt he would do that.

Why is there a Guardians of the Galaxy character in a Star Wars movie?

Which one looks like GOG? I have never seen it… But it’s that whole Marvel Universe Thing that scares me when it comes to Star Wars. If it becomes like MCU franchises then well…It will just not be Star Wars anymore. It will be too diluted perhaps.

I refuse to watch all the super hero movies, just not interested.

Yeah that could happen, also I wonder if their will be an Asian cut of the film which is slightly different, it happens much more frequently today and many films do this to cater to Asian markets.

I think the most interesting instance of this was Iron Man 3, where they shot new scenes starring a couple of China’s biggest stars. They added absolutely nothing to the plot and it was just an excuse for some targeted product placement. Apparently the intended audience wasn’t impressed.

Sadly the Asian cut of Gareth Edwards Godzilla never appeared. I hope we get an extended cut one day. Gareth Edwards showed remarkable constraint in how he handled Godzilla and it’s a shining light of how you build up to a proper Climax something sadly any thought goes in to in today’s blockbuster films. I suspect the same for Rogue One that a lot of cut scenes will end up in the trailers like they did for Godzilla. But he did say an extended cut was not out of the question (Godzilla), so the material is there. Shame he won’t be doing Godzilla 2.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAWAKLLAFV0

So Keep a look out for dumped trims!

More Donnie Yen or Jianne Wen in an Asian cut I certainly would not be complaining. I’d probably get that version too.

Can’t seem to find anything on Looper though mysteriously very little information on the Chinese cut. And I very much liked this film also.

Pruneface!

yeah that would be good…

Perhaps he is the mysterious hooded figure with the Emperors guards… I think you may have outed the mystery man. It seems that the hooded garb is a traditional costume for them. I am willing to I think that’s our mystery Hooded man. Not Darth Maul and not the Emperor.

I’m not rushing out to see this film going to wait until after Christmas probably.

Kill Bill, Looper, 47 Ronin for instance…

There is also an interesting credit in this supposed last trailer, Trust

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWNvdoRnNv8

Music by Michael Giacchino
Original Star Wars Music by John Williams

Now Michael Giacchino stated in his score that he used only 5% of John Williams Music and the other 95% was his own. I am guessing we will here the opening Star Wars theme but slightly different. Also I hope we get the Death Star cue too.

More alternative Takes this time Saw Gerrara plus a nice line from Krennick “It has started”

So I guess we are being shown some differences in the re-shoots with these alternate takes.

Definitely a little game being played nothing evil of course but a small effective disinformation campaign of what is what? Which take, what will be in the film and so on, Take everything with a pinch of salt.

I think production may not have wrapped totally just yet. Although production if it has not wrapped yet it will do next week. The reason being the music score being late and some sound effects are altering frequently in the trailers (Baze Gun) the music score being so late there could be minor tweaks and although the MPAA have issued a rating It has yet to be submitted to the BBFC.

The video running time is done and dusted I would imagine. Gareth Edwards stated hard for him to let go but the work is basically now done.

So the final edit will probably be sealed next week. In time for the premiere 10th December.

But I think they are asking us which ones we prefer…

Don’t forget to add the last part where I explained that I was “Joshing” that means joking around I am pretty calm and having a giggle. I’m not that serious about it.

I didn’t quote the last sentence because it didn’t make any sense (what identity crisis? what being complicated?) and it was unclear to me what if anything you were “Joshing” about. I assumed you meant about doing away with the end credits too but it seemed like the rest of your post was quite serious in its misguided criticism of a film no one has seen yet.

That’s ok I am really excited for this film, I have quite high hopes for it. I just don’t want for it to be Normal or ordinary in terms of Style I want it to retain at least something that makes it feel like traditional Star Wars.

The End credits comments I made, I will stand by we have all been trained that as soon as the text starts to roll it’s time to get out of the cinema. Although I am joking about again I think it would be really interesting to see in the cinema if the last shot was the first shot from Star Wars (episode IV) with the credits rolling over it. Even if nothing happened it would be interesting to see how many people would stick around in anticipation and how many people would just get up and leave oblivious and without any anticipation about it. Even if only to Separate Long Time Fan’s from new ones. It’s all just amusing fun.

The Identity crisis comment really relates to having heard that they spent ages discussing how they were going to deal with Anthology movies for 2 years and how the Anthology films should be handled. And it seems the answer in terms of retaining a stylistic Format similar to what Star Wars films have had in them up until now has been thrown out the window which was not at all concrete we knew the Crawl was probably going but not everything else.

So it really seems like a Star Wars Genre film won and the normal Star Wars rules are gone. This ones a war movie. Next one might be a detective story. Then a Romance. Then a western And finally a horror Star Wars film perhaps. So that looks like what the idea is and it’s become “tell this genre in the Star Wars universe”. And throw out the rule book.

The Plot and locations could be complicated and the Crawl obviously did not cut the mustard.

That was actually my point putting the names of the planets there will probably make little difference if you choose to educate yourself prior to watching the film like some of us have then you won’t need to see the names of them in the film and do they really matter.

There is apparently some text at the start but it’s not a crawl.

You know I just got thinking about how these days when you go to the cinema and as soon as the closing credits roll… Everyone can’t get out of the cinema quick enough.

SIT DOWN! SIT DOWN! the film is not over yet… Don’t you care who made this film? I am just as guilty just as the next person… But it never used to be like that.

Honestly and I ask this of you 100% honestly would you walk out of a cinema if the credits rolled at the start of a film?

I know I would not and I doubt many other people would either. It’s slightly off topic in a way but considering George Lucas got ditched from the directors guild for having no opening credits… It’s probably more poignant now than ever the validity of opening credits in this day and age.

Does it have anything to do with scrolling writing not feeling like being part of film and a tonally disconnected medium at odds with everything you have seen come before it?

I would say yes, that is why people know the film is over… now let’s get a bit crazy here with some ideas!!!

What if the end credits for Rogue One rolled on that opening shot of Tattooine and moon and when the last credits rolled off the top of the screen. We got the first shot of Star Wars as an after credits scene with the Blockade Runner and the Star Destroyer going overhead…

Would that Keep you in your seat until the credits finished rolling?

That would be a huge interesting experiment In my humble opinion. Perhaps you might see the opening shot to Star Wars perhaps you might not… 😃

“First comes the day
Then comes the night.
After the darkness
Shines through the light.
The difference, they say,
Is only made right
By the resolving of gray
Through refined Jedi sight.”
―Journal of the Whills

or the dropped quote from Star Wars perhaps

"… And in the time of greatest

despair there shall come a savior,

and he shall be known as:

THE SON OF THE SUNS."

-Journal of the Whills

Straight away this builds something… I would advocate the use of this passage it’s quite beautiful.

That temple on top of the rock on Jedha is the “Temple of the Whills” If this group or institution went about chronicling the history of the Jedi then it would be cool to learn what is relevant about it.

As far as stylistic format departure goes we now are heading for “Like any other movie would do it” bog standard so if you want / need labels on stuff. To me it’s not been thought through well enough to convey the information well enough to avoid the labels. It’s a small but very significant loss in how one should tell a Star Wars Story.

Whats next? “Memento Star Wars” tell it in reverse chronological order?

When they said Rogue one won’t have an opening crawl they should have also added it will have captions for the planets do away with the wipes and the the format will be nothing like how Star Wars is normally. Get rid of A long time ago in a galaxy far far away while you are at it. Do we really need the end credits also?

I am Joshing but I’ll site the identity crisis now and It’s due to it being complicated but I hope they can handle it better somehow at the last moment as the film does look really good.

I have no issue with the opening crawl to Star Wars movies but I think the problem was that the opening crawl for Rogue One could not explain what they needed it to explain in any sort of capacity as to be of much use. It has nothing to do with willingly breaking the mold of tradition only the usual tool (opening crawl) of the tradition could not possibly convey what they needed it to.

I understand opting for generic captions like any other movie I just wish they could have been more inventive and kept a bit closer to tradition sort of.

Your also lying if you think a caption saying Tatooine before the Blockade runner followed a Massive Star destroyer flying overhead suits your taste. I know you better than that. 😃

It just feels regressive even Indianna Jones knew how to set up up different locations via the map shots in really interesting ways.

Oh man, that looks so boring…

honestly I get it, it’s been done loads of times before in other films but captions in Star wars to explain a place Bar subtitles for alien language are to me out of the question.

Although the prequels had their faults and some people got confused. Star Wars in particular always left things like those explaining captions or telling you what year it was and what country you were in what planet you were on.

None of this really matters too much.

The very first thing you see is almost like a bed time story.

even the lord of the rings prologue set things up ever so well. Did we ever see captions saying “Mordor” “Rivendell” explaining all the locations. I don’t think so. It was not needed. We need our head on the cushion before we can begin the bed time story. A quick history lesson would suffice. Tell me don’t show me, or tell me and show me.

Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and films like this… That is what set’s them apart they tell you a story they don’t show you a story.

Once you start introducing captions in English or any other language from our home you are back on planet earth in a way unless it’s subtitles for our understanding of conversation they are important a lot of the time.

Dune is actually the perfect example and a good history lesson in terms of the TV cut how not to stage a complicated sci fi involving numerous planets. The theatrical version perfectly set the stage and explained to us carefully and thoughtfully. The TV edit was botched and clunky.

Can you even imagine the opening to STAR WARS with a planet label before the action starts.

I feel I have made my point and I feel very strongly about this. Sorry but if the report is true. It makes me a bit sad in a way.

You can show pictures of objects with names against them to a young child and say them out loud and they just will not grasp what you are showing them or telling them. But if you tell them a story and you engage their imagination the chance of grasping what you are trying to teach greatly increase. The same applies to adults funnily enough we never grow up. That is all I have to say on the matter. God help us as we begin this new millennium.

Interesting fact - Tatooine is never mentioned in the whole of Star Wars (episode IV). Is the Name of the planet important?

Yes it could be if different planets are being referenced from other planets only by name and the name is not established.

Perhaps the Label happens when we are looking at the surface of each planet or across the exterior space view carrying over to the surface. I would just much rather have a history lesson and watch the film personally. Perhaps “Saw” could tell us about this galaxy we know very little about… A long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

In Rogue one when we cut to an image of another planet or world for the first time it will have a text name or title card to help the viewer and establish where we are. That makes me think although there are 5 we know about it could mean a couple more to boot. Obviously it is to help avoid confusion.

I seriously would have went the Dune route rather than this route with opening narration and a very delicate time…So on. It needs opening narration badly a cushion. Not a explanation while watching it. It might work but if it seems too late now for a narration to save it’s style somewhat. it seems pretty obvious if you remove the opening text you need another cushion. But we now will get at least 5 interdispersed mini cushions.

I want to see the shot where Luke fly’s into Dagobah cloudy atmosphere for the first time Special Editioned like that now!

Yeah code names.

Just a guess but What if the dish is constructed and fitted on Eriadu? And that Eadu name is just put there to throw us off the scent. This is where Galen is held captive also remember. Grand Moff Tarkins Industrial home world.

In the Rogue One Recon Video The Death Star has no dish… And it’s orbiting Scarif.

Were going to play a game

Hmmm Saw

Eriadu is on that map Eadu is not.

Dantooine they’re on Dantooine… Could be Lah’mu (or Lah’mu is for real doubt it though)

Yeah I really like that shot too… It could be a new Planet but Eadu or Lah’mu are not mentioned on this guide map for Rogue one which zkinandbonez rightly points out is weird.

All the rest are there and Boldly made a point of such as Scarif and Jedha and Yavin and it makes a point of marking out the route of the death star also.

I have a feeling Lah’mu and Eadu are fake names one of them (Eadu) being Eriadu Grand Moff Tarkin’s home world.

Lah’mu was named after a place they shot in the Maldives. But this planet was set in Iceland.

Well, it could be that we only see the DS over Jedha. Since it’s already in ANH there’s no need for it to appear throughout the entire movie, especially since Scarif is where they steal the plans.
I guess it could show up at the very end though, but it sees weird that the DS would be needed at Scarif. It firing on Scarif would be pretty weird. But then again that’s the sort of crazy thing that the Empire might do.

I have a feeling that the plot will revolve around three missions; sabotaging some Kyber crystal mining on Jedha (or at least getting some info). The DS shows up to stop them and cover it’s tracks. Then they go to try to save Galen from Eadu. Perhaps they get some info from him there. And finally with this info they go to steal the plans on Scarif. That’s my guess anyway.

As for the early marketing teaser, well, that could simply be marketing. They would have had good reason to avoid spoilers at that time. I also think it was made even before they started shooting, so it could have been based on some early ideas. Also the teaser did show a jungle, and Scarif is in all the trailers shown has having many oceans/lakes with small jungle areas as opposed to the thick jungle shown in the teaser.

Ok so the Planet in the Flash Back is called LAH’MU

And you are right zkinandbonez EADU is the blue misty mountain planet. (Could it be a mistake and it is actually Eriadu? That is Moff Tarkins home world heavily polluted industrial planet)

I also think that SCARIF is also where the dish is fitted so the Death star will move after it get’s fitted on to Jedha.

You know that 3D experience video Rogue recon…

Is that Scarif?

I think the planets are

Eadu - that’s in the shot with Jyn running krennics ship flying over the beach. Eadu has rings.

The Blue misty mountain planet is called Malpaz or Malpas I think. (From catalyst novel)

Jedha & Yavin are fairly concrete as is Scarif. So that is 5 planets at the moment.

The death star is also a bit like another planet too.
