EDIT: Never mind!

I read what you originally wrote… So you got the english audio for the german cut?.. If so Hooray!

I hope you got it… everything was resting on this so please revitalise this idea it is a good one after all 😃

Don’t tell me it got sold already…

Although I have not hunted this down. My opinions still stand on the points I raised.

  1. Cement characters names they were somebody who became nobodys in Vera cruz.
  2. Selective translation of foreign language awful either put translation up for audience benefit not just what is in the script. Use fonts of the time…
  3. Telescopic sight overlay on truck shot missing
  4. Recut shovel attack so it is in correct order as it is jumbled up.
  5. Famous bridge scene color alteration awful in blu-ray begone foul image…try to make it look like poster promo images.
  6. Put both cuts of the film together to make extended edition
  7. Restore original audio mix

That is all i have to say summed up and I will help out if you agree… But i don’t think you agree…

talking of pulp fiction…

Still waiting for the actual gory shot of the guys head been blown off in the car, which has never been released done on purpose by tarantino to show he was toning the film down to appease the censors… I doubt it will ever be released.

It is uncut now btw in the UK and the censorship has been waived on those but nowhere the very gory gunshot…

Most people I know have either never seen it or saw it once and don’t really remember it that well.

I fall into that second category.

I don’t know why people are acting so shocked that the new Bladerunner is flopping. It’s almost three hours long and is a sequel to a standalone film made nearly 40 years ago that most people haven’t seen in its entirety.

I just got back from seeing it and give it 9.5 out of 10. I did not watch or follow any hype I just went and saw it.

I thought it was very well done, yes quite remarkable that they managed to not ruin anything about the original and other versions of the film.

some interesting reflection about the replicants…

They are meant to be blue it is just that the film is all over the place colorwise on the last part.

It is blue in reality the film made them green because of hues color shifting and very poor contrast.

@ Darth Ender it’s a mixture of created shots and pulled shots from other material. I did them all apart from where I used alternate material from either fan films or what ever I could find really or find to create the shot from various elements.

I did manage to create a shot of tie fighters leaving the Hanger this was set top go directly before “We picked up a new group of signals… Enemy Fighters coming your way” I did this shot in Powerpoint as a 2d animation using the Hangar from ROTJ sans lambda shuttle but I ended up scrapping that as I was only messing around.

The other shots I planned to edit was the Deathstar explosion the Deathstar would glow before exploding like a malfunction.

The shot of the egg shaped Deathstar was going to be replaced where we see it through the x-wing cockpit near the start but the cockpit POV would also be behind x-wings also it’s hard to explain but it would have looked a bit better and better sense of scale again.

It was all just a learning exercise and good fun

I forgot about this one…

we’re going in… we’re going in full throttle.

Here was an idea I had not to show the x-wing with the wings already up when R2-D2 beeps at the camera after Luke says “Red five standing by” Why? Because on the next shots the x-wings unfold and it no longer feels like Luke is part of the group that we see opening their x-wings to prepare for attack. So it’s almost as if Luke disobeyed Red Leaders orders to put the x-wings in attack and he just does what he likes. So I wanted to keep R2-D2 beeping as a character but lose the open wings before the order is given and feel part of the group in the next shots.

Make approaching the death star 3D and show the axis and that they are cutting across it “I’m going to cut across across the axis and try and draw their fire” This also gives a better sense of scale I think.

Show Lukes x-wing being cooked and lightning sound effect but use the better swoop up from the special edition also

very difficult color grading but color for the surface explosions is there!

effects idea and color grading for the deflection tower destruction.

@ Bingowings

It would be interesting to see Leia syringed?

You are giving me ideas about the torture scene now… Show the needle going through the white dress and emptying in close up?

I always liked the hologram ball of yours Bingo. but I thought it would be good to see a brief glimpse of a cloaked figure tuning out and the device switching off… Keep it secret!

Forgive the roughness of these mock-ups but (and I appreciate how difficult it will be) the helmets of the Rebel pilots need more than just an insignia colour change.

Ady recognised this when he changed the insignia from blue to red but the clean helmet squadron don’t appear in the battle so it’s still kind of odd that get such prominent screen time.

Helmet 1

Helmet 2

Yeah there must be a few cut pilots for those helmets…

Some more ideas…

Vader follows and leaves the trench

This is it!

The’re right behind me?1? More focus on action in the trench runs…

YEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! Red Leader crash replacement.

Wedge hit / more spectacle

I don’t have time to do much of anything apart from work so it’s just nice to have a chat honestly.

Thinking about it though i actually did quite a alot with it. To actually talk about it as a study would be a lot to digest and it was not the plan but i might bullet point what my plan was as i was testing what i was capable of achieving and just trying to learn stuff really.

I like the partially destroyed Death Star idea. It could even be established in ANH that Yavin is actually Endor (just change the one line in the film establishing this), and it makes sense that the damaged Death Star would remain in orbit around the moon.

There is the issue of Yavin 4 being more tropical than the Sanctuary Moon, but you could even fix this by making the matte paintings more deciduous. Being incredibly bold, you could film one or two people in Ewok costumes and have their shadowy forms peeking out of the woods at this point:
Yavin
So now there’s a reason for the Rebels to protect the planet rather than immediately evacuate, as there’s a native sentient species, and there’s a reason for the Ewoks to treat Leia as royalty, since she may have been known to the Ewoks as a leader of the Rebellion.

I think that is pretty amazing! But yeah jungle vs forest and universe shrinkage goes agaist it.

Very cool idea I must admit and how you developed it…

Last year before christmas i fooled around with the battle of Yavin Revisited and I provided Ady with a link and i am not sure he took a look at it. It was unfinished rough edit but I did really want him to atleast see some of the ideas I had even if he might have agreed with them but wanted to do them slightly differently or did not agree with them and did not like the ideas…

I am going to post some gifs of some of these ideas as I never intended to edit the whole film but i offered my take on colors already but it was fun for some ideas i had and let’s remember this is about having fun together. I will share a few gifs tonight it is mostly new or edited shots spliced in and I think you might find them interesting or I hope you do…

Info Wanted: Can anything possibly be improved in ESB?
Time

I grew up with star wars trilogy I only saw ROTJ in the cinema though was too young for the others…

I agree Empire for the characters is the best. That really is what sells it. But it is Edited in hap hazzrd fashion in a way neither star wars was or ROTJ was.

Empire ran out of money and they had to cut corners to get the film out but it was far more ambitious than star wars and was an amazing technical achievement really. It’s just got audio fade downs cut music fade back up. Hard cut music in to another piece of music all of a sudden. Let’s put shots in a bit of a strange order.

I really like it… But I would rather it was in the right order and the music was handled better. But to do this you also have to trcreate some special effects shots and re-edit it or add missing elements. That is what I am saying.

Bluray regraded:

I thought it was an interesting shot… I had a go myself now ignore the change of contrast outside the image I did not bother to crop it. But I think there are a number of ways to handle horrible hues. I always do this (now) from the HSV section of the color correction in the Bias and decrease saturation. It works differently to normal or standard saturation and thins out the hues… Then I color correct out what is left and even re-saturate the image using normal saturation.

Not sure it is of much help for you developing your color match tools or algorithms but for what it is worth I just wanted to share a different way of approaching this problem.

The Bias saturation does a great job of eliminating horrible hues especially in highlights and also without in this instance having to push green / yellow too much to get rid of the magenta.

Not trying to say one is better or worse just different techniques I guess. I did not do this either to get praise but I wanted to show you how I approach this problem that was all. It’s an interesting shot for all the nasty hues in there for sure.

I probably need to drop value here somewhere also in the mid range but it was only for the purpose of eliminating nasty hues really. one contrast color needs changing blue contrast by the looks of it too.

Interesting about PC decoding colors too!

There is a lot more to it than just putting the music in… you also have to put the shots in the correct order and / or add the missing shots to get the proper cues.

I dunno man, the duel music syncs almost 100% perfectly with the editing, down to the scene changes. I’m pretty sure it was pulled out of the sound mix at the last minute and as such there aren’t any editing changes necessary.

I don’t think the same can be said for many other cut music cues from ESB, though - the probe droid music definitely feels off with what’s happening on screen. But the duel music doesn’t at all.

The duel music only works up until Vader speaks… It clashes with what is going on quite a bit I think. It is probably scored to a slightly different cut or something. I don’t actually think it works only the very begining works flawlessly. It may have been scored in a rush the second time williams was recalled in the february before release not sure. I would only use partial bits of it anyway not all of it. More likely it was never put in to the film at all even though it was recorded. Not very likely that it was pulled out with how things went at the final production stages. The ending of the film has the worst sound and video editing of any star wars film but it still manages to be good and enjoyable. Quite some feat when they are sticking up some makeshift matte paintings of the landing platforms and on set audio also.

The probe droid sequence music is missing shots and the correct order is first we see the probe droid outside the shield generator then we cut to the command center… the missing shot is communication from station three eight gun turret communication cut’s off then back to Han “it’s not freindly whatever it is” now the deleted scene of the probe over station three eight turret (from rinzler book) in flames for the probe droid cue. (Break) Missing shot of snowspeeders then follows this. (Resume music) During the probe droid attack by chewie and han there is also a shot where the probe droid turns it’s head after Han Blasts it the first time found in the trailer this sorts the cue out properly. Also in the comic book.

https://vimeo.com/156984006

Of all the star wars films this was the one that needed the special edition treatment the most but Lucus was probably too afraid to add the deleted materials or was more concerned with pushing the cgi of Lucusfilm. It was not about the film and restorimg material from the cutting room floor so much but they did restore some of the cues but nowhere near as many as they should have.

Have a ton of small spaceships leaving Cloud City to cover the Falcon’s escape as the evacuation proceeds. The cloud cars hold off the TIE fighters while they rescue Luke, but are destroyed after buying them just enough time.

They were meant to have been chased the whole time as soon ad they took off. The shot where the falcon does a loop turn through the clouds was meant to have tie fighters flying at it. It is in the comic book. Like playing chicken with the tie fighters and they dispersed to avoid a collision.

The other one like this is Leia Han and 3p0 being chased through echo base. (Forget about the Wampa door) There is one shot of storm troopers running from deleted scenes this is then followed by the scene where 3p0 is pulled through the door. On that shot the laser bolts are missing but the squibs are going off all around him as he is pulled through the door. Then when 3p0 gets to the ramp the sound mix fades off completely only to leave the music. This was to hide the sounds of the lasers going past the ramp he runs up and again the lasers are missing. Then we have the shot of the falcon failing engines. This should be the shot of the stormtroopers entering the hanger. It is exactly the same length in frames as the static picture of the falcon. The Static picture was an insert to make it seem they were not being chased and shot at!

https://vimeo.com/116947635

Now also when Han says “this baby’s still got a few sutprises” we have the gun appear immediately.

Basically it’s all there more or less but because elements are missing our perception of what is hsppening on screen changes and how we see the film is been skewed on these 2 counts.

There is a lot more to it than just putting the music in… you also have to put the shots in the correct order and / or add the missing shots to get the proper cues. This applies to about 90% of the cut music and even some existing music already in the film…hence the reason it was cut or you have those dodgy fade down and back up again where the missing shots are. It is around 9 shots missing at a guess off the top of my head.

Basically just putting the music in is not how it was scored as it was re-edited after it was scored just before the production went bust and they ran out of money and time. Williams came back to rescore partially but some of this was not used. It got a bit messy I think at the end of production.

I have always wanted to add in some of the cut music and re-create short deleted special effects shots to improve the flow better. Not much hope of me doing that though!

Also arrange the film in a slightly better chronological order and re-edit.

Restore missing special effects elements that would change things quite a bit but not a massive amount and some deleted scenes too.

Distracts me every time.

Oh god yes this. How could I have forgotten about this?

The Surface of the Death Star II should be visible from the Window… Just saying it’s an error or a missing horizon. Perhaps not at this angle but at some angles it’s missing.

I’m almost certain adywan previously said that he would not be accepting suggestions for this update of ANH:R.

Absolutely. So far it’s going to be the same edits, except for the original DS plans and maybe no prequel music.

Although this is not so much a suggestion but Here is few things that I find interesting and I will leave it open for you as to weather or not you feel it worthwhile additions or putting in stuff that was planned and did not make the final cut…

Before the shot of the Landspeeder when Luke and 3P0 are searching for R2-D2 there was meant to be a shot of the Landspeeder dashboard scanner before Luke exclaims “there he is dead ahead” or something. There is a visual contained within “deleted magic” of the scanner in the Landspeeder dashboard. Would be a nice recreation of a cut special effect bolstering the performance a little bit and perhaps a nice addition?

This one is controversial and I don’t think you will agree with me but here goes. Personally I am convinced the whole krayat dragon call noise is rubbish. The original sound from theatrical which was used in your edit if played on the deleted shots of the sand people turning and looking would actually be an alert / warning sound from one of the sand people. It sounds really like a sound a Tuskan raider would make and I think this was just the video could have been cut different but the sound was not remixed. Basically what I am saying is, is that this sound for some kind of monster is not that at all, it was a Tuskan raider alerting his tribe of the Dangerous Wizard whom they knew. This is a much more plausible scenario… But I know people will backlash this as it ruins what people know or how they refer to something which is just plain wrong in my opinion. So I guess I just said this knowing full well you won’t put the deleted sand people shot in there on the sound that plays on Obi-Wan showing up.

Extra original shots of Mos Eisley Landspeeders and storm trooper search additions (without stilt man) slight expansion would be nice if available in good enough quality.

Re-do horrible shot of Landspeeder first shot going in to Mos Eisley. It’s a really horrible angle on that it’s just not cinematic at all. This one below.

^ Don’t mind the background (Foreground sand is better in the original) but the Landspeeder looks really bad in every version. Would be great to see it come in from the left and turn or delete the shot in favor of something in 3D or something totally new showing the scale of Mos Eisley.

Extra Cantina aliens… The praying Mantis?

Last one can we put the Massasi temple on Yavin IV as part of the Buildings in the Jungle similar to Rogue One?
It’s something missing due to budget constraints I feel nothing particularly mystical about this.

Aside from the missing Massasi Temple element most deleted footage appears to be from the start of the film… It would be good to expand the beginning a small bit if possible but I don’t mind if you don’t.

Thanks for Reading and Good Luck!

110 hours of aerial footage was shot for Battle of Britain (1969), of which only 40 minutes appeared in the film. The unused footage still shows up regularly in TV Shows and movies about the period because today it costs more than $10,000 an hour to rent a real Spitfire for a film, so licensing the footage is usually much cheaper. Also, the production had 32 flying German Heinkel 111 bombers to play with (on loan from the Spanish Air Force at the time), but today there are none - The one featured in Dunkirk (2017) was a scale model. Here is a list of films and TV Shows (that I know of) which used some of the footage shot in the summer of '68 for Battle of Britain - but there are probably more!

• 1971- Dad s Army - Film spin off of the popular television series
• 1972 - The Pathfinders - ITV television drama series based on the exploits of Bombers Command’s Pathfinder Force
• 1972 - Our Miss Fred - Film comedy starring Danny la Rue
• 1976 - Carry on England - Film from the long running Carry On series
• 1976 - Battle of Midway - War film dramatising the Japanese attack on Midway Island in 1942
• 1979 - Breakthrough (aka Sergeant Steiner) — War film starring Richard Burton
• 1984 - The Secret War of Jackie s Girls — ITV television drama series
• 1986 - Murrow - Channel 4 television drama based on the life of Ed Murrow, wartime news correspondent
• 1988 - A Piece of Cake - Television drama series based around an RAF fighter squadron in 1940
• 1999 - Finest Hour - BBC Television documentary series chronicling the events of 1940
• 2001 - Dark Blue World - Czech film about Czech pilots in the Battle of Britain
• 2010 - First Light - TV Movie based on biography of WWII Pilot, Geoffrey Willum

Wow that is some list and research there Willarob… You might have noticed it’s been brought up already in the thread already about this but unconfirmed and also Tora Tora Tora! Aerial footage too.

It would be some crazy project to assemble all this footage or outtakes into The Battle of Britain movie… Ridley scott is apparently planning to head up a remake soon.

I will add this to the list thanks for this input!

Seeing a clear trend in aerial footage which is interesting.

ANH - Skyhopper scenes
Time

It makes you wonder how the film was going to start. I am not aware of the scripts at all so i have no idea what was revised but i could imagine star wars begining without the battle on the tantive and that being woven in a story that was centered around Luke from the get go which was more than likely an option with skyhopper / binocilars looking at the battle and biggs going off to join the rebellion.

I was actually really hoping they would have did this for rogue one to be honest so i think the opportunity to cross over is now gone but looking at rogue one i can see the timeline overlapping in this film with life on tattoine. The ending was reshot so the tantive scene would have been much more different in the original rogue one edit based on the virtual 3D experience game first look.

I am conflicted about the x-wing engines.

I think the “simple” rationalle is like cars, each year the same model car does go through some changes. Different years have either minor or major over halls.

The pink engines turned into red engines, there is a good bit of time from a New Hope to Return of the Jedi. Tie color changed after A New Hope. It could be the “gray” models came from the Death Star.

Also the Stormtrooper helmets changed to black teeth.

The x-wing engines were meant to be red at least in Empire Strikes Back as when the x-wing leaves “Dagobah” upon the Yoda and Obi-wan conversation. “No… There is another”

first we see the blue/ white floodlights swoop across and then Red light was used to show the glow of the engines as it turned it’s back and flew off. Now if Ady wants to make the engine glow pink on Yoda I think that would be horrible.

So I think the engines are definitely red or meant to be red in Empire Strikes Back.

I always liked the red engines in ANH:R too.
