You might actually be able to use some footage from gremlins or somthing and make R2 a killer lol

It could be hilarious or it could be taking things too far but R2 could cut leias chains with the chainsaw too

certainly a good you tube joke vid if it could be done

lol I prefer salacious crumb to an ewok somehow I like the fact he clings to Jabba like this little parasite... I do like Henson stuff though so hands up on this

So thinking again about the Sarlac pit and it's beak or no beak dilemma I thought about the mechanisms involved in this strange creature that is almost like a underwater creature or venus fly trap but stuck in a hole in the desert. So would it make sense that the beak surfaces out of the throat only when the tentacles have prey to pull in otherwise a creature of this sort would not expell energy unneccesarily on no prey what so ever especially a sparse desert where normal prey would be limited it would feed by stealth awaiting things to come it's way and pulling them in. when the tentacle wraps on to somthing the beak extrudes or atleast that is my thoughts on a potential biological view of this creature

so where we as himans have a mouth that leads to a throat this craeture has a throat that leads to it's mouth...but the mouth only acts to pull you in to the throat and onto being digested it does not eat from the beak that only pulls things in....

Oh, happy to comment on whatever you like.  The only difference I noticed about the sail barge was regarding the actions and death of Mr. Fett, which I already commented on.  Did I miss anything?  I'll again confess that I think you did a good job, and it showed me it can be done and I will be voting yes when presented with your idea.

As for the Lars homestead and surrounding material, I feel you did a good job.  It effectively told the story you wanted, and I thought visually it was very interesting.  But I personally find it a bit distracting from the main story, particularly the flashback stuff.  If we were to include a scene like this, I would suggest forgetting the Falcon once we're focused on Luke; we already know they leave Tatooine and jump to lightspeed.  I'd also probably just cut the flashbacks and the panic in the X-wing and simply have him watching the sunset near his home, the sand blows in, he heads to his X-wing, and we're off.  Especially with the choice of music, we know exactly what Luke is thinking in this moment, and flashbacks don't fit the Star Wars mold that well.  It's not my preferred storyline, but again, if we were to follow your line, I'd probably imply more than I'd show...more powerful and Star Warsy that way.

As always, my comments are meant to be constructive, and I must commend you.  You did good work, Ron.  You should consider investing in the software and taking some movie editing classes.  You've got the natural talent, and you clearly have the passion.

EDIT: in response to the sandworm question, what you'd probably have to do is show several worms throughout the desert, including somebody popping to the surface.  This would make it clearer that there are other creatures present.

These were also my thoughts on the matter also... I probaly over did it with the flashbacks and like you say it's un star wars like to do so it was a concern but I atleast tried a little montage so I think you may be correct in that I over complicated the idea when it's better to leave it up to the audience more

I'd really like to show Han and Chewie back in the cockpit of the falson one last time it completes the tatooine adventure a bit more conclusivley like things are back to normal if only for a momment

@fishmanlee I was working on the beggars canyon scene and you sent me a link to the Bobba Fett Holiday special cartoon which is what indirectly inspired the lines for the scene...

you suggested the street singer which is sort of arabic and bingowings suggested nore exotic arabesque dancing music so I ended up coming up with primitave tribal drums whist using the footage from Max Rebo for Rancors lair... I tried the street singer idea and it did not work because the Worrt Barks at C3PO and the Jawas are whispering and it conflicted with this in the scene so I kept it as the original

unless you know how to remove the music thats there and keep the sound effects which I have no idea how to do?

probably you need to remove everything and start from scratch rebuilding the sound from nothing which I did not have time to do...

Sorry but what do you think about after the sail barge and how they part ways and the Lars Homestead idea as this is totally new territory and was a bit unsure about how it played out myself... This was really difficult to try and do and make it plausible use the other link you can skip now....

your right about the sandworm that where is this hapenning? would it help to show a hairy bantha foot in the foreground perhaps to explain that is meant to be happening right next to the herd.

I tried to accomplish this with sound but it obviously did not work

So Rebel Assault II is obviously useless except maybe for some lifting of the audio.  Too bad, because there were some decent cockpit shots in there, if only the resolution weren't so very low.  But from what I've read, the pilots were green-screened in there, so it shows how effective the illusion can be if we have the right costumes.

I'm sorry about your troubles, Ronster, and I don't have an answer.  I'm letting it run through to where I left off, and I'll try to get it done and let you know my thoughts.

I fixed it now so please use this link instead for Part 3 I have deleted the other link this has exported correctly.

after finally watching the whole of my cut as a whole I had a couple more ideas... This conflicts with your script D but I would like to see C3PO with his eye hanging out on the top deck of the sail barge...

Also I was thinking about the briefing and should the plans depict an incomplete DSII or what it would look like completed as Plans would show it in complete form not half built or was it intended to look half built even though it was finished?

That would be great.  I was around 15 minutes into it, paused it to do some studying, came back to it, and it set it back to the beginning :(  But I promise I'll get to it, even if you aren't able to export it again.  It really is fun to see some of your ideas in motion, even if I don't see all of them as a perfect fit for our edit.  You have many interesting ideas.

I am really glad you said that because I had planned to do this post before but had no time....

What I have done is my take but not all my ideas so I wished to do some acknowledgements of how I came to what I have produced.

New Opening scene

Opening Crawl: Darth Ender

Home 1 opens as the first scene : Me

Boba Fett Delivers the plans : Who ever done the mock-up on youtube

Plans Sent via transmission : Bingowings

Bigger Opening : sorry but the name escapes me of the guy that done the previous mock-ups using star trek footage for bothans

Stronger tougher Vader: Mithrandir

Need main characters to make a scene plausible : Bingowings

Vader Lines Interactive Board Game : Darth Ender

Dagobah

Yoda Gives Luke the Crystal : Johannus

Wanted to do cuts from the script but ran out of time sorry D_E :(

Luke goes tatooine / Beggars Canyon

Changes to audio lines :Me

Beggars Canyon Sequence : Me

New audio Lines for Luke : Indirectly but Fishmanlee provided me with inspiration on this

Jabbas Palace

Observed cuts from the script but kept droid torture but cut the stupid tentacle grabbing C3PO: Darth Ender Script amongst others views

Re-Cut Lapti-Nek : Jaita amonst others versions to create this different take.

Drumming in the Rancors Lair: Me but inspired by Fishmanlee and Bingowings wanting more Tribal Arabic music but the street singer did not work :( (yes I tried to do this) so this is what I came up with as a substitute more primative rather than Exotic arabic

Cut Boush / Leia hitting the chimes in the arch while creeping about: Spence

Cutting Boba flirting : Many people agreed on this

Coruscant

revealing the Imperial Palace: Theodo amonst others really wanting to see Coruscant as was intended to be in ROTJ originally

The shot of the imperial Palace big nod to Ralph Mcquarrie : Angel came up with this idea

Executor picks up Emperor: Darth Ender (but I modified from the eclipse)

Sarlac Pitt

Added Music cues from Jerry goldsmith Planet of the apes: Me

Sandworms on Tatooine are normal food for the sarlac: myself but inspired by a youtube video wormsign on tatooine check it out it's quite funny.

Boba Fett Sequence : Kind of listening to everyone in dissaray about what to do about boba remove him keep him in etc so yeah I just wanted to chop his head off whilst giving the coolest star wars character a bigger part in ROTJ

Parting of ways / Lars Homestead

"I need to be alone for a while" : Darth Enders audio cue essentially was the seed to create the scene that I came up with at the Lars homestead instead of hear him say it show it...

Falcon deaparts into Hyperspace : Me and it fell into place naturally also It is a shame that we never saw Han and chewie in the falcon together again in ROTJ so I wanted to fix this one last time as we know them so well as the best of shipmates

Feeling more unsure about lukes psyche : Bingowings amonst others saying they wanted to feel more unsure about luke and I did my best with this when they part ways after the sailbarge is destroyed

So I hope this post helps people not think I am trying to push my ideas alone as many of them have been born from others ideas albeit I did it slightly differently I have been listening whilst trying to come up with this storyboard scripting suggestion very intently and am aiming to mesh alot of ideas together into a cohesive whole So when you say my ideas some of them in fact most of them are actually your ideas?!?

thanks for reading....

Will upload a fixed version of the part 3 in a bit

Edit: There is a problem with the file if anyone can offer up any suggestions would be helpfull it wont close the file off 99% and won't complete

Ron, that's looking great.  I can see how much work your putting into this.  The only thing that bothers me is the reusing of previous footage, but I guess there's no other way to do it.

I also share this concern about reusing footage but don't take my mock-ups as gospel only that I cannot do CGI and re-used footage as was my only resource available for getting the ideas out and visualised... I would prefer new shots where possible or make some new footage in some cases.... I don't want it to feel like an amalgamation of ANH and ESB with ROTJ.... Thanks for the feedback yes alot of work... But the first half really has bugged me and I saw no other way but to have to do this treatment to... believe I could execute the ideas that were coming to me and not just coming up with BS..

I put the footage that surrounds the mock-ups in for good reason so you would get the feel of the pacing and any issues arising from the extra scenes for example

It's one thing to have an idea completly different to execure it so if you like I have proved some potential....

@Darthender Sorry about the last clip I don't think it exported properly i.e. did not close the file off thats why you csnnot skip I will export it again and replace the link... And thanks for your feedback too!

Ok as promised the last clip of my work hope you enjoy what I have done....

Why did I do it?

Because I like the way that the structure is but don't want to see another spence edit with loads cut out or loads of stuff unexplained and the pacing being wrong also like where luke goes when they part ways etc so I promised I would do script and storyboarding for this project and that is what I have done...Weather you like it or feel you need to change it.. Shorten it... Expand it.. Ditch it... Build on it or smash it down is ultimatley not my decision

I would like to add though alot of credit does need to go to spence as he was the first to come up with this sort of structure for ROTJ... I am just trying to fix it up a bit and trying not to loose anything of the main characters whilst filling in plot gaps.

I've given it my best shot now it's up to you people who will ultimatly more talented than I with visuals / sound and editing to work the magic, either in this vein or another but my submission is here for reference what happens now I guess is up for final vote.

I wanted to exploit the possibilities of doing ROTJ this way.. And have gone as far as I could with Mine and others ideas or my take on others ideas.

I fell asleep after submitting the second clip I was exhausted racing against the clock to finish this so anyway here is the last part.

So what I learned while cutting the first half in relation to the script....

1.The cut to luke saying to yoda on Daogobah "I come back to complete my training" is easy enough just need to mute this line but put the music in from yoda theme.

2. Cutting Ben on Dagobah saying "You Must face Darth Vader again" is not good because there is nothing to cut away to as the previous line is on lukes face.

3, Cutting C3PO saying "look there is Han-Solo and he's still frozen in carbonite" is tricky but possible focus needs to be on R2 whilst adjusting the music cues.

Apart from that can't think of much else at the mo regarding parts of the script I tried to follow but decided to leave these cuts as was more work than I already had done.

D... I have the executor pick up palps and then join the fleet around DSII

I'm thinking these sort of ideas to represent the TIE hangar, but aalenfae pointed out that it would much easier to show an inside-looking-out view.

Pic 2 and pic 5 look the nuts,,, This is basically what I want to see in atleast 1 star wars film.....  It would just be very cool to see... Hope it's this edit

Domoinc has a good head on his shoulders he seems to get to the point on things.... His opinion is well decided and unbiased and although he is not pushy he lays it out bare... @Domoniccobb you'll be pleased to know I did the Coruscant scene because you said you'd like to see somthing of this nature and emanswfan made me decide to go back to it and I sorted out my problems with the executor so hopefully it's up here tonight at 85% and converting... It looks better than anything else because it's the last thing I did and It's the best I had done compositing wise it actually quite good scene.

I have no problem with using the BD 2011 but will we be able to do everything else to match as D said it all needs to be decided when the deleted scenes are done by emaswfan what resolution is he getting a good picture from these scenes 720P or lower we could still downsize the 2011 BD anyway.,,, Also before filming anything too so alot rests on the final outcome of what resoliution the deleted scenes look best at.

@Darth_Ender it's your fault I did the stuff with the executor... That was your inspiration on to me... Because I have the 3 star destroyers at the begining as in the original.

Damn it is taking as long as the edit (58mins) to do the conversion so it's gonna be late because I have to chop it up now and add some subs to the very begining.... Nothing happens too fast with this stuff but I will promise to get some of it up tonight even if it kills me

No offese D but I'm taking a break after this... I will eventually pull it all together into a complete rough cut...

I finished cutting the whole first half of ROTJ in rough with many ideas included... clips will be up here for peoples enjoyment or disgust later on considering I have not watched it in whole completly myself yet and how it is as a whole experience to watch as a movie rather than clips.... Fighting to beat the clock here...

There is alot of changes and bits and pieces scarpered from wherever I could find it to make this happen....

Sorry D have not got round to the star tours footage yet hopefully in a bit after I import this stuff and chop it up....and upload as promised... It's exporting now needs a couple more tweaks and then It will be up.

Doing the sound has taken a long time let alone the video.. But I have tried to make it the best i could in what time for this deadline...

So in about an hour or so...

Something I realize I forgot to mention earlier was whether it would be easier to show the Interactive Board Game footage of Darth in the Death Star hall or if it was easier to film a guy in a Vader costume and composite him into a Death Star hall.  I personally feel using the old footage sounds simpler; we wouldn't have to find a willing participant, the actor would truly be in the hall and would therefore likely look more realistic, and I don't know where we'd find a good empty Death Star corridor shot to composite the actor into.

So I'm getting ready for the third and final vote, thanks to Johannus.  He was kind enough to gather ideas for me.  This is your last chance for additional idea submissions.

A couple of points I want to make as I prepare for the new vote: I personally really oppose TIE bombers and a forest fire on the Endor surface.  I mean, we do want the good guys to win, after all.  I don't see how it could be a real victory, even if I find the idea extremely fascinating.  How could the Rebels take out the bombers?  I don't think Chewie's AT-ST could shoot down three spaceships.  And in spite of the Rebels' success at taking out the shield generator, so many Ewoks would die to make the ending especially bitter.  I want it to be an uphill battle for the little boogers, but not a sheer cliff.

Again I will mention the Eclipse, as I will include it in this voting round.  It's definitely not necessary, but rather an interesting visual idea.  I don't mind if it gets shot down, but I'm really interested to hear more people's thoughts.

Automatic re-entries for the final vote include: Duel of the Fates motif during parts of the space battle, including the alternate version suggested by MrInsaneA, even including a Bothan scene/any spy scene, and which suggested version, Luke kills/decapitates Boba Fett (expanded idea through Ronster's newest mockup, Anakin showing up at the funeral pyre instead of with Obi-wan and Yoda, an extended Dagobah opening with Yoda giving Luke a green crystal and showing some training, and the title Last of the Jedi.  I'll post the vote in the next day or two, so please provide suggestions if you want one of your ideas that was shot down a second chance or if you have some other new ideas to mention.  It might help to look through the ESB and ROTJ Wishlist thread as well as the How Would You Remake ROTJ thread (which I can't find in spite of OT.com's excellent search function) if you want to seek out new ideas.  Anything that doesn't get used this time around can be put in a new post or thread that compiles all the good ideas for further radicalizing the edit when this first version is completed.

Some more good news: I have been in communication with TMBTM, who has agreed to "try" to colorize the black and white female pilots for our edit (he can't promise success, but I understand that is a big challenge).  It's only a very few seconds, so he will give it a shot.  I know it seems a bit late to be asking this, but what is our source so he knows what colors to match?  I believe we should go with Harmy's Despecialized Edition as he offered.  Obviously we may need to pull bits from other sources, but that should be our primary source and efforts should be made to match.  Thanks so much for helping us out TMBTM!

Finally, here is the best Star Tours footage I have.  It's 4:3, about 20 seconds cruising over the Death Star surface and entering the trench.  I think we could put about 10 of those seconds in the Falcon cockpit window and thereby make an effective additional shot.  I really feel it's worth it, and the quality is decent enough to be useful (might still need a little color correction, but I'll let a pro handle that).

All good stuff D...

About Vader and including the walk down the hall... I have actually realised it is better to not show him walking down the hall at all before the deleted scene and contacting luke via the force or telepathy because he gets in a lift and then all of a sudden he is in his chamber... Better to re-use the shot from ESB where his chamber opens just saying what I have come up with... Use any walks down the hall... later on for Jejerod or whatever else you may come up with..

To show ties launching from DSII we could show the interior docking bay in 1 shot  (CGI) then use the shot of Vader leaving with 2 ties from ANH Yavin but mask Vaders Tie-Fighter out perhaps..

I will do this shot of the falcon cockpit today and an x-wing cockpit shot too... I will also try to colour correct star tours footage myself also.

So here goes nothing...

STAR WARS – EPISODE VI : “REVENGE OF THE JEDI”
Written by GEORGE LUCAS
REVISED ROUGH DRAFT
June 12, 1981

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

1. SPACE

The boundless heavens serve as a backdrop for the MAIN TITLE. A ROLL-UP crawls into infinity.

The Rebellion is doomed. Spies loyal
to the Old Republic have reported
several new armored space stations
under construction by the Empire.

A desperate plan to attack the
Dreaded Imperial capitol of
Had Abbadon and destroy the Death
Stars before they are completed has
been put into effect.

Rebel commandos, led by Princess Leia,
have made their way into the very
heart of the Galactic Empire: as the
first step toward the final battle
for freedom….

Pan down to reveal the planet HAD ABBADON, capitol of the Galactic Empire. The gray planet’s surface is completely covered with cities and is shrouded in a sickly brown haze. Orbiting the polluted planet is a small, green, moon, a sparkling contrast to the foreboding sphere beyond.

George Lucas HAD ABBANDON-ED the idea then?

Stay on Target....

I have done some mock-uips of the emeror leaving coruscant and I ditched the idea because It adds nothing to the story whatsoever although you are correct Ralph Mcquarrie's concepts were never visualised in ROTJ and this is why I wanted to acknowledge this and give a nod to Ralph(not the PT)... The problem I have had is doing 2 big reveals with the executor so I have chosen to stick with the executor approaching the DSII only... But if I do find the time to finish this then you will not see the executor only the emporer on a shuttle... This may actually work better....I have given myself the answer to my own problem :D so I will try to complete this... Thankyou for the inspiration emanswfan

I have completley underestimated how much still needed to be done on the whole begining portion up until the briefing to satisfy myself and hopefully others also to show a new way ROTJ could be put together while re-organising it's structure without losing anything of significance and expanding the plot.....

I have accomplished it all bar 1 shot for Vaders star destroyer in my new opening mock-up and the tribal drumming in the rancors lair.... Some of it has really made me giggle at it's crudeness... So I may aswell throw in the emperor leaving coruscant with my last day of my free trial of CS5

Some clips will definatley be up here at some point tomorrow so stay tuned...

I know I won't be winning any oscars for my efforts but It nice to be nearing the end of this journey It's been an awful lot of hard work... But I would like to thank many of you for the inspiration and remember inspire and be inspired

I know this might be a bit of a pipe dream (and I have spoken out against it in the past), but if we were to film new shots of characters what would we want?

The reason I ask is I have been in touch with someone who runs the UK garrison of Star Wars costumers (because I'm in the UK so it seemed the easiest, but there are similar groups all across the world and loads in America).  I briefly explained what goes on at this site and asked if he thought the people who are involved with costuming might be up for helping with reshooting the odd bit or shooting new scenes or whatever, and he was very supportive.  Obviously I still need to speak to the individuals themselves because each person makes the costumes they want so it would be up to them, but their costumes are very much screen accurate so it would save us having to try to buy or make accurate costumes if we can rope in some people who already have them.

With that in mind I was wondering what characters I should be looking out for?  I doubt we are going to find anyone who is a convincing twin of any of the main characters, but we could probably find someone with a convincing enough Luke costume to film a shot of him with his hood up walking away from the camera which could then be used to form a shot of Luke visiting his old home (like Ron's mock up).  Other examples might be trying to create extra shots to help more smoothly transition between the film footage and the deleted bunker scene or something like that.

Anyway, this is definitely a work in progress of an idea, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get a few ideas rolling and see if we can make any happen.

Good work thats great I'm in the UK too!

I already have the shot of him walking away.... From the sandstorm deleted scene footage I finished it about 30mins ago it's only rough but it's done

We need Endor Commandos 100% oh and Rebel pilots

Can anyone suggest a star wars fan-film where Vader chokes a general or admiral of a star destroyer I need this footage...

Well done on the script Darth_Ender... It certainly highlights what a massive daunting undertaking this project really is... But as Joahannus said we need to take the small steps approach and chip away at it lightly one step at a time, bit by bit, scene by scene rather than being scared of looking at it as a whole.. How do you ever think I got any of my rubbish mock-ups done.

You have had the same problems I had then with the star tours 2 footage also I opted to make it brighter rather than darker as you have just cannot get it to look right :(

Just been thinking about the sarlac pit and what It would prey on normally as a living animal or creature so I guess the answer is sandworms.. It would pull them in when they came too close with it's tentacles So I have found footage and plan to show a sandworm moving under the sand before the sailbarge reveal as for the creature to survive it would need sandworms fairly prolific in the area it would also explain the reasons for all the floating skiffs / speeders ect because of sandworm attacks in the open desert. we also saw the skeleton of one in episode 4 A new hope so this would correlate I feel. Edit: whoops it's not it's a krayt dragon

But I only want to show a shape under the sand and not an actual sandworm on the surface keep them mysterious as they are by nature...

So i'll paint out the small bantha herd but also but show the eco system like sarlac eats sand worms - sand worms eat banthas... Making the sarlac more believeable as a creature because not much even delirious desert travellers or creatures will simply fall into that things mouth even every hundred years....

So I am thinking about this image and the sandstrom will roll in from the left... I plan to show a flash back of lukes foster parents of when he leaves obi-wan in ANH and perhaps some original binary sunset footage before the suns become engulfed by the haboob...

I don't quite know how this next scene will work but I would also like to show Vader chopping lukes hand off again from ESB either before or after he checks his hand in the sandstorm probably before... Using Lukes Voice Only for the "Nooooo..." and "I'll never join you" with Vader reaching out to him If I do the voluntary fall from the tower I thought about him falling through hyperspace but I do not know what final image to flash but I would truly love to show luke with sith eyes as he takes off his hood....but where should this be?

Dagobah cave and luke meeting a sith version of himself lol ah I don't know

And then cut to him touching his hand in the storm before getting in the x-wing

It would be like seeing a jedi premonition

Any Input or ideas could help me out here....

Edit: I want to show young luke when his life was more simple + his foster parents death again primarily
