@Alanfae

I really like what you did there the base looks like a rear projection with most of the light being at the center... And gives the impression of light source that has temperature

Nice retro fit anyhow. without taking away from the core improvements that have been made

Good idea Bingo quite like that...

If anyone is just plain curious 3-D projection is possible but star wars projection is pure sci-fi and still not possible.

The leading cutting edge 3-D projection is done by a company called musion
http://www.musion.co.uk/

and is based on an old theater trick called pepper's ghost.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper's_ghost

I was lucky enough to see it in action on demo and it looks great but it's not quite star wars yet... We have a long way to go as we are just re-using old theater tricks but it still looks cool :)

I don't want to derail the thread but perhaps people might be interested so it seemed relevant to ground in reality of the techniques used today to try and accomplish an illusion of 3-D projection without mapping onto an object face with multiple projectors (curved wall or sphere for instance).

Light coming from underneath=pure sci-fi

But to ground it in some kind of reality to be totally believable as a projection it is missing a sense of light source or where the projection is coming from even though it is pure sci-fi which I think Bingo has rightly pointed out.

Good work Muddy! and all the team from the Charcter Actor and Ady and anyone else for bringing it all together.

Best fan edit in town!

Please keep the stills formula I like looking at this stuff but I really don't want to see videos and have the eventual whole experience ruined (by that I mean new footage and miniatures and all of that stuff)

Ady teasing the probe droid score was what made me want an alternate Audio track...

It's Black or White when it comes to either re-scoring or altering audio and I appreciate people have differing views on this and may scream about an audio change and accept a visual change more readily.

The Audio changes in the first post change list are a "given" or almost mandatory decisions that I personally wholeheartedly agree with and I can only imagine that there is someone out there that would argue that the new special edition Boba Fett voice sounds better or the "bring my shuttle line" is inferior to the new one..

So those are not really an issue but when the probe droid score came on with the new scene... It worked so well that I now struggle to see that without the music. Although I am not sure on the fleet grouping should be as in the original film or the new version this I am a bit torn on.

Probe Droid score = 100% for it

fleet grouping = 50/50 (when sound effects are added for the ties and Vader breathing this could actually sound fully amazing and be 100% for it)

But this adds weight to an alternative audio track for the very reason that some will simply reject an audio change while others will embrace them and more so than visuals which is a bit strange as most of our perception is visual.

Certainly an interesting subject for research on perception.

aside from this I just pulled a list off wiki of audio changes from theatrical vs special edition weather or not this is totally accurate I do not know the answer but likely not as C3PO saying "I don't want to die" without the cut off is not listed neither is the Gantry and reverb on voices or wind sound effects during sabre duel.

as for some of the original sound it's been so long I honestly can't remember the original sound of "the first transport is away" or the original "who are you" when C3P0 get's shot for instance this has gone from memory. Neither did I realize there was so many audio changes

______________________________________________________

There were also a large number of audio changes to the Special Edition version, all of which were incorporated into all subsequent releases of the film, unless otherwise noted.

  • On Hoth, right after C-3PO tells R2-D2 to "Switch off", R2 gives out a little "blurp".
  • When Luke collapses in the snow, he lets out a grunt as he lands on his face.
  • Han says, "until I can get the shelter up" instead of, "until I can get the shelter built."
  • Luke says an additional "Ben... Dagobah..." just before Han says, "I thought they smelled bad on the outside."
  • When C-3PO tells Luke, "It's so good to see you fully functional again", Luke replies, "Thanks, 3PO."
  • The line "Headquarters personnel report to Command Center" is said three times instead of two.
  • The line "The first transport is away!" is said in a different voice.
  • When R2-D2 is being loaded into Luke's X-Wing, C-3PO says "and" before saying "do take good care of yourself."
  • Han's line "Transport, this is Solo. Better take off, I can't get to you. I'll get her out on the Falcon" is followed by, "Come on."
  • In the asteroid field, after C-3PO says, "Oh, this is suicide", he says, "There's nowhere to go."
  • In the scene where R2-D2 is spat out by the bog beast, Luke says "You were lucky to get out of there," instead of "You're lucky you don't taste very good." This line was not in the 1993/1995 THX mix.
  • Yoda makes a frightened "AAHHH" sound when Luke points his blaster at him.
  • Yoda says, "Yes, run!" before "Yes. A Jedi's strength flows from the force." The following lines, "But beware the dark side. Anger, fear, agression. The dark side of the force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight" are also much louder and clearer.
  • The Imperial fleet establishing shot after the magic tree scene has a different TIE fighter sound effect.
  • A different part of The Imperial March plays during the shot of the Imperial fleet right before Darth Vader kills Captain Needa.
  • In Cloud City, after C-3PO says, "That sound like an R2 unit in there. I wonder if it..." he says "Hello?" only once instead of twice.
  • Before C-3PO gets shot, a different voice says "Who are you?"
  • While C-3PO is on Chewbacca's back when they enter the carbon freezing chamber, the line "Now remember Chewbacca, you have a responsibility to me, so don't do anything foolish" is heard louder and clearer.
  • During the duel, when Luke knocks Darth Vader off the platform, Vader lets out an "ooooh!" instead of an "aaargh!"
  • Lando Calrissian says "Attention" twice (instead of once) when he speaks on the Cloud City public address system.
  • Lando's line at the end, "Luke, we're ready for takeoff." is a different take.
  • In the final scene, there is no tracked music from "Yoda and the Force"
  • "The Imperial March" is partially repeated in the ending credits music to make room for the Special Edition release credits.

@monroville the radio chatter which does occur is another cock up...

I pointed it out earlier....

Luke to wedge " i lost my rear gunner you'll have to take the shot"

Radio chatter luke to wedge in wedge cockpit " i'll cover you"

Luke "set your harpoon and follow me on the next pass"

How will luke cover wedge if wedge is following and he has lost rear gunner?

If luke said i'll follow you it would make sense...

Also bear in mind this is the cockpit shot where it looks as if the snowspeeder will hit a rebel running away from smoke...

Basically i called for a cut or alternate exterior shot on this but to remove i'll cover you line as then the dialogue also makes sense... Luke says i'll cover you again moments later so another good reason for the chop i felt

The rear 'gunner' is the one that fires the tow cable harpoon gun. Luke is saying he's going to cover Wedge (with his speeder's forward facing lasers that he can fire), while Wedge concentrates on tripping the ATAT. It makes perfect sense.

I think I have read into this inaccurately now and ignored a keyword in the sentence being "Next"

Luke " i'll cover you"

"set your harpoon and follow me on the next pass"

meaning that he is covering him at that moment on the next pass they will switch positions and Luke will fly point.

So I retract this and my bad although i was originally drawn to the shot because of the visuals not the dialogue.. The scale on the shot seems wrong and that wedge cockpit looks as though he will crash into a rebel running from the trenches..

But the dialogue does make sense and I admit I made a mistake

apologies 005 and metalmunkie you are right!

Thanks again folks no probs mes83

The only line that i have set in my mind is that when the storm trooper pushes Leia he would say "move" that would be natural i thibk.

I keep thinking about this scene with R2 and i realized if you flip R2 spraying smoke you also have to flip the storm trooper firing before they exit the door. otherwise this also has continuity error

That one was for kicks....

Can i third thc c3po suggestion too

I am thinking about this R2D2 scene and you can't have him not go out the door because of the music so that to me means the 2 shots of R2 you posted should be made to look like he is outside if possible....

Fake door opening compsited on shot1? flipped shot of R2?

Bring R2 outside and further towards camera down platform on shot 2?

As you have just stated, this is not anything that would or should be considdered for Revisited, so maybe you should start your own thread, instead of continuing to force the issue where it has no relevance.

I honestly mean no harm or intend to be forceful...

Also by my language and by the things I said i.e. would be better to record new dialogue

I said it was a demonstration if anything it shows a flaw even if the mock-up I did was flawed and cheap because I just did around an 80 hour week over 6 days work and could not be bothered to do more...It only highlights that storm troopers are mute in Empire.

Don't be angry I am not , and I did say that perhaps it's not for revisited but to simply show some rough ideas is not a nasty thing to do?

My main point was I'd like to hear them talk again... What they exactly say is of little relevance only that it is in context and they are not mute.

If it's not for revisited no problem but I really have no plans to to edit empire I am just looking forward to revisited and if an idea helps then great if not never mind I don't have a problem and i am already over it.

Thanks

and I did'nt have one of these to hand but If I did I would have done a better job

BTW TV's Frink made me laugh

Talking storm troopers are more dangerous

As promised I did a mock-up of some storm trooper dialogue put in to stop the storm troopers in Empire Strikes Back from being mute.

Ideally some new lines of dialogue would be better but to show you what I mean and to keep some continuity I thought it was a good idea so I did it. I am not suggesting anything should be done of this nature for revisited but I would really like to see them talk again, and if they did in revisited well it would be great this video is a window to what could be perhaps.

weather or not you like it or hate it as a mock up, is not the point it's that at least for me they don't say a word and and I like some of it myself and am unsure also on some of what I did but it's more a demonstration than 100% solid suggestion.

I personally think 2013 is still a bit tight but we may get a 1st version by November earliest at a guess

ANH:R was revised for each release so being a fan edit revision is a possibility also.

Ultimately it's done when it's done whilst that is a hang up for some it is also a strong point also depending on how you look at it. It is a modification so it can be furher modified or un modified

But i seen some people suggest editing adywans edit because they won't be happy unless it is a certain way... Just go make your edit now....I don't see that attitude as constructive.

No matter what you will never please everyone... But I wonder what complaints will get aired with ESB:R that will be given by certsin crowds....

I was talking with somone today who has made a short film and is hoping to release it at frightfest... independanrly funded too... We got on the subject of older films and how new films are planned and formulated and older films were more off the cuff and ambiguous.

Their ambiguity is part of their charm.... So although that was my idea about the shuttle and the troops i fully respect revisited for not taking that onboard but however i hope my energy and enthusiasm rubs off on you and 005 i think you do a great job too....

We all want to make the magic happen and i think this thread has more energy than it has had for a long time

Because Luke's is going distract the walker while Wedge comes from behind to launch a tow cable. It makes perfect sense.

@005

Yeah that is how i interpreted it which means that luke is flying "point"

If he has a rear gunner covering wedge is possible as he does not it does not make sense

If wedge was flying "point" luke would trail and provide cover

Ohriginal ref youtube vid.... This is a good example of subtle audio editibg... I seen your revenge of the turrets too.... And i thibk the one from jedi throne room that vader destroys the control station as luke leaps away....

Some good ideas and subtle...

I dont have much time at the moment but if i get a chance to look in to any fleshed out yet subtle audio ideas for storm troopers i will post something up.... I just think it is a bit of a shame and readily admit that it is awkward and could feel forced.... But when i get a chance i will have a look and if i find anything good i will post it up....

SSWR also did some good audio edits that are noteworthy just as bens hut in ANH:R by Ady was much better than the original

I understand that and I agree.... My point was that they spoke quite a lot in ANH esb they really did not speak at all and then in Jedi that start talking again....

I was merely trying to say a subtle reminder of what they were and are to become again would connect the dots

i.e. beings that react and that have a voice without sounding cheap and as you quite rightly put across not spouting crap.... But something rather than nothing and done tastefully could make them atleast feel a bit more like they were in ANH.

Or do you think the storm troopers are the best in empire the ones that do not talk?

Look it is not a big deal to me it is just an abservation the best storm troopers are undoubtably in a new hope are they not?
