What's your take on Emperor Palpatine being brought back for The Rise of Skywalker?
Time

Palpatine’s line about all the Sith living in him made me think that all of the spirits of the Banite Sith, including Darth Bane himself, existed as a collective consciousness within Sidious.

While Legends was obviously rather contradictory at times, both the Bane trilogy and the Darth Plagueis novel seem to hint at it. Bane begins learning Essence Transfer in the last Bane book, and when his apprentice kills him, it is left ambiguous if Bane’s attempt to possess Darth Zannah failed, or the weird feeling Zannah had actually indicated he succeeded.

Palpatine also experiences a similar sensation when he kills Plagueis. Again, it is ambiguous as far as what that feeling is, but I think it is left to interpretation.

But if Palpatine was also Plagueis, his speech to Anakin about Plagueis the Wise would seem weirder in retrospect, since the hint of smugness when speaking of his master’s death would seem odd, considering his master actually lives on in him.

If I were to speculate, I would guess that the apprentice is unaware when they become a vessel for their master. At least initially. I don’t know. It’s rather confusing.

I saw a snippet in the doco of a deleted scene between Obi and Padme talking at her apartment before Anakin arrived. Does it exist somewhere and do we know what they talked about?

TK is correct. Obi-Wan comes to see Padmé, and Padmé quickly realizes something is troubling him, which makes Obi-Wan say that she should be a Jedi because how good her intuition is. He says he is worried about Anakin, and Padmé says she is worried about him too. Obi-Wan also tells Padmé that he knows about their relationship and that he cares about them both (lining up with Padmé telling Anakin that Obi-Wan cares about them later in the movie). At this point he doesn’t ask about the baby, but if this scene had been included, Obi-Wan asking Padmé if Anakin is the father later on in the movie would have felt like a more obvious progression.

Unfortunately, this deleted scene has never included in any bonus disc. Only images and behind the scenes glimpses of the scene being filmed have ever been revealed.

It’s cool to see you coming back to Starlight a little bit. I do think this scene order is a lot simpler, and it kind of recontextualizes the detonation as an attempt to disable to the oscillator, rather than just trying to blow a hole in the oscillator for the X-Wings to barely slip in. It actually makes Poe flying into the Oscillator a lot more improvisational rather than being a part of the plan.

Man, I’m really loving this effect. I’m probably projecting a lot more on it than others, but when I see the flickering blade, I feel like the amount of work Rey probably put into trying to put the lightsaber back together feels a lot more tangible. Rey is a scavenger. She might not be able to rebuild things perfectly, but she makes things work. Just that little touch adds to the character of Rey and the lightsaber, in my opinion.

I love this perspective! Also, Rey would probably blame herself for the lightsaber’s destruction and could add weight to her statement when she tells Leia about not feeling worthy to wield it.

Ooo, good point! I didn’t even think about that line either.

Shit, that last pass looks great, kewlfish.

Yeah, not a fan of the music, but I do like the idea of creating a another wide shot to give the moment of Ben’s death some breathing room. I felt like it just went by so fast from it. If we couldn’t find a way to create the necessary elements for the wide, I wonder if we could just extend the moment, like Dom managed to do for Rey vs TIE on Pasaana and Rey on Ahch-To.

That cover art work is the bomb.

I’m also digging the crackly saber effect. Maybe the crackling could be pitched a tad higher to differentiate it a little more from Kylo’s. It would be interesting if when Rey transports the saber to Ben during the climax, that somehow the act of passing it through the Force healed the crystal. So when Ben receives it, the crackling is gone. But maybe people would be confused by that and think it was just missing the effect. Anyway, definitely like it!

This is probably an unnecessary idea, but I had a thought regarding the Star Destroyer montage at the end of the film. I know Finn says that people are rising up across the galaxy, but I think it would be cool to actually see that those people are the one’s causing the Star Destroyers to crash. For example, maybe you could add cloud cars or other ships to Bespin, flying around the crashing destroyer. With snooker’s Naboo mock-up, you could add N-1 star fighters.

Unusual <strong>Sequel Trilogy</strong> Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

I heard the terrible news today that Italian composer Ennio Morricone passed away today at 91.

Hearing the news made me want to share some old ideas I had of doing a Tarantino-esque mash-up of TFA and TLJ, using some of his music. Here are two videos I did to see how well his music blends with the visuals of The Last Jedi. Considering how incredible his music is, it isn’t difficult for it to enhance any scene that they’re used in.

I would gladly learn VFX stuff and modify the lip-syncing of the characters to redub the planet’s name as Korriban. The shot of the Sith statues with the orange ambience just speaks KOTOR.

Korriban is widely known to those it concerns, though, so it wouldn’t function as a secret base. All the more reason to stay close to the official blue grade to differentiate it from Korriban. It also really suits Palpatine. I do like the “grey” recolor though. Something along those lines might be good.

I’ve only seen the orange recolor, has gray been done yet? I can see grey mixed with green from the machine like someone else suggested to imply the Nightsister magic

I’ve redone the gray LUT (it’s a bit less red), here is how it looks on Exegol: https://vimeo.com/435562056

This LUT is almost a must for me. It’s great!! A lot spookier than the blue, imo.

Maybe we could see a Star Destroyer blow up in space above Kijimi, since I can’t think of a good shot to use for that kind of thing from the planet surface (although would we know it’s Kijimi since there isn’t a establishing shot of the planet when they arrive or leave the planet?)

I’m sure there are some decent Naboo shots that could be used.

Another idea would be to have Broom Boy looking up at a destroyed Star Destroyer in the sky.

EDIT: How many seconds would the shot need to be?
