Going away? Post so here!
Time

It’s a shame we couldn’t keep oojason and get rid of whoever was harassing him instead.

I don’t know exactly what happened around here before and I get the feeling a lot is still going on that I don’t understand now. Why did so many leave and who is it that remained? Which side of what conflict am I now associating with? Hard to ignore that there’s more than just Star Wars going on now.

Ahsoka (live action series) - general discussion thread
Time

Outside of The Clone Wars, Ahsoka only appears in part of Rebels, mostly in season 2. She isn’t everywhere, she’s just so popular among fans that it seems like she is.

Ahsoka was born 36 BBY and The Mandalorian takes place 9 ABY, so she would be about 45 years old around that time. The Rise of Skywalker is 35 ABY, so Ahsoka would have been 71 at that time, but since Rey hears her voice, I’m guessing that means she has become one with the Force by then.

I’d say we have a lot more of Ahsoka’s story still to tell. Can’t wait!

The Essential Star Wars Animated Series Episodes for Movie Marathon Inclusion

Here’s an edited list I made for a friend a while ago, of the essential Clone Wars episodes - but this is for someone who’s never seen the show. (Friend in question still hasn’t got past the Umbara arc)

I hope this Google Drive link works. I would have just typed out the episodes to contribute to the thread, but when I was making it, I enjoyed collecting all the images so much that I spent ages doing it, so now I figure I should just send the original document.

The link worked for me. That looks great! Nice work. Definitely high quality Star Wars in my opinion.

I haven’t really had time to see much of The Clone Wars… but for two season the best episodes are ones with less of her. I get that this is one of those long haul things, but at the same time it also feels like a problem when other new cast members are immediately more engaging.

Not to digress too far from the main topic of Ahsoka, but you could sample a few of the best episode arcs to see if it grabs your interest. Ahsoka is in many of them, but she isn’t always the main focus. The series touches on a whole lot of people and places. Lots of juicy Star Wars goodness.

Here is a post I made a while back of my favorite episodes:

I’d say Ahsoka is a central character of The Clone Wars, but only a supporting character in Rebels. I think Ahsoka showing up in a cameo or as a supporting character in The Mandalorian and elsewhere is a great way to add a lot depth to whatever story they’re telling. We still follow the main character and their story, but whenever they connect with something larger, even if brief, I think it’s great.

I think we have a lot of Ahsoka still ahead, but when her time comes, I expect it to be huge.

Ahsoka (live action series) - general discussion thread
Time

I’ve changed my mind quite a bit about Ahsoka since she appeared on the scene. Back then I had mixed feelings to say the least regarding the prequels, and I also didn’t like the animation style of The Clone Wars initially, so Ahsoka had the deck stacked against her.

When I did start to warm up to The Clone Wars and Prequels, I still wasn’t big on Ahsoka. I didn’t like her attitude at first and wasn’t big on the idea of Anakin having a Padawan at all.

Then a funny thing happened. The character Ahsoka started to resonate with me. I found myself agreeing with her thoughts about a lot of things. I could see her struggling with how the Jedi were handling things. She couldn’t deny her own feelings, but couldn’t comprehend how she could be right and the Jedi wrong. She listens to Anakin and Obi-Wan because she respects them, and she learns a lot, but still has issues.

The end of season five was eye opening for her. She was able to see things more clearly from the outside looking in. Her skepticism really comes together. When we see her again, she obviously still has respect for Anakin and Obi-Wan, but is a lot more vocal in her defiance of the dogma. I think Ahsoka and Qui-Gon would have seen eye to eye. He saw it too. They were right. The Jedi had lost their way in a sort and Palpatine used their rigidity to play them like a fiddle.

Ahsoka brings a lot to Star Wars. She had a huge impact on Anakin and was most likely a factor in his fall as Palpatine undermined Anakin’s trust in the Jedi. Now whenever I watch The Clone Wars, it feels a lot more like Ahsoka is the main character and the entire reason for watching. Filoni is brilliant and Star Wars is in good hands as long as he is around. The end of The Clone Wars season 7 is some of the best Star Wars period. She is definitely one of my favorite characters.

As for the Ewoks;
EC Henry made a pretty good video explaining how they work within the film, and he didn’t even mention the pretty obvious themes that Lucas had been playing with since the early drafts of SW.

I don't think Revenge Of The Sith is as good as everyone says it is.
Time

Prequel fans are taking the criticisms that fans of the Originals heaped upon the Prequels and passing those same complaints along to the Sequels. It’s a new Star Wars tradition it would seem. Everyone overlooks the flaws in the things they enjoy, but are entirely intolerant of similar flaws in other things.

Sure, movies made in different eras by different people have their own unique qualities and therefore certain unique flaws, but all the Star Wars movies (including the Originals) have a lot more in common regarding flaws than some seem willing to admit.

I feel fairly certain we will eventually see Sequel fans and Skywalker Saga fans saying the same things about whatever comes next, though I think the majority of people have a very positive outlook on the Star Wars franchise as a whole.

Is Revenge of the Sith any good? It’s as good or as bad as any other Star Wars movie.

The Rise Of Skywalker - Abrams' Vision or Executive Meddling?
Time

I love all three sequels, so I have no complaints regarding who made them or their interaction with the studio. I think the passing of Carrie Fisher had more of an impact on TRoS than anything else.

But if I’m compelled to nitpick and play a game of what-ifs, then the only second-guessing I’d do is how fast Disney wanted these new Star Wars movies rolled out. I’m not in the business, but a new Star Wars trilogy seems to me like more of an undertaking than the Marvel movies they were cranking out. I think a little more time before the first and three years between instead of two could have had a positive impact on everything.

Still, I love those movies. They gave us excellent new characters and some great moments with the old cast. I have wonderful memories of going to see them and all the hype leading up, just like the other movies. Triple Force Friday was a complete blast.

I’m going to enjoy these new Disney+ series while anticipating what they do next. Can’t wait!

I know I’ve been spamming this thread recently - sorry folks - but in case anyone missed it, ILM just realised a 17-minute documentary about the model work of The Razor Crest. It’s great and I’m glad practical effects are making a comeback.

If that’s spam, then I would like some more, please!

Clearly, the fandom can’t be that big since pretty much every corner of it hated TRoS…

I do not believe this is true. I think those who didn’t like it are disproportionately more vocal than those who did. I see many different people proclaiming they enjoyed it, but often see the same few people more frequently repeating they didn’t. Of course, all I have is my own anecdotal experience like everyone else.

We all have this tendency of confirmation bias. Information that supports our conclusion sticks out to us. Also, we often manufacture a false dichotomy where we reduce the results to “the worst ever and everyone hated it” versus “absolutely amazing and fans loved it.” We forget the most likely larger segment of some good aspects along with some bad and people having opinions somewhere in the middle.

That said, I loved it. I spotted flaws and things I would have done differently, but the more I watch it, the more I enjoy it. The flaws matter less and the parts I enjoy matter much more. I feel the same about every Star Wars movie.

Another nitpick I have is how odd it feels for Leia to have had a lightsaber, but chose to leave it with Luke all this time, and his Force ghost leads Rey to it so there can be two sabers in the finale without one having a red blade.

I would have preferred Rey to have started building her own saber earlier on as part of her training. Kylo could have still gotten the Graflex saber from Rey in the same manner, then we could see her use the saber she’d been working on for the first time.

Still, just another nitpick and as I said above, I continue to enjoy the movie very much.
