The Original Trilogy - a general Random Thoughts thread
Time

So many characters in Star Wars have helmets or masks. I always thought of it as not very practical and just part of the Star Wars aesthetic to look cool. Well with all that’s going on now, I completely understand wanting to wear a helmet or mask when going somewhere, especially an unfamiliar world. This is the way.

Well, it says “So You Want to Be a Jedi?” is canon, and there’s a recipe for it in the Galaxy’s Edge Cookbook, so that must be it. Dagobha sure looks like it has a lot of frogs though. Luke train there for a while. I’m betting Yoda slipped one in at some point.

In The Empire Strikes Back we hear Yoda ask Luke, “How you get so big eating food of this kind?” Then in The Mandalorian, we see a child of the same species as Yoda eat a life frog. So when they go back to Yoda’s place, what exactly is he trying to feed Luke? “Eat! Good food! Mmm, good, hmm?”

Really interested in what this graffitied, urban setting from the trailer is like. I’ve seen some people complain that because of the streetlights, it looks too much like an actual modern city on earth, so I’m looking forward to seeing it in the show so I can figure out what I think of it.

It reminds me of Lothal.

I just attended a screening of The Empire Strikes Back SE at my local theater
Time

I went to the theater for the marathon of all 7 main saga movies when The Force Awakens was released, and again for all 9 with The Rise of Skywalker. It was an absolute blast!

The biggest thing you get from watching them with a crowd is the audience reaction. You forget how funny some of the moments are. I just can’t help but enjoy them more in that atmosphere.

I very much enjoy escaping into Star Wars alone at home at times, but if theaters don’t make it through this current pandemic, the loss would be immeasurable in my opinion.

Would it not be amazing if we got a Darth Vader movie directed by Christopher Nolan?

It could go either way, Rogue One turned out great in my opinion

Rouge One told a story I was interested in hearing (more interested in telling, actually).
The mystery wasn’t what was intriguing there. With Vader, the mystery is everything.

I agree. I would rather have not known anything about the Kessel Run. They could have done a movie about Solo and left that part unseen. The same with Vader. Just because they make a movie and Vader is the main villain, doesn’t mean any mystery has to be spoiled. I’d say his appearance in Rogue One added greatly to his menacing quality. I’ll take more of that. As for a story worth telling, that time period is ripe for developing characters and stories.

Christopher Nolan though? Not sure. I love Interstellar and Inception, but I can’t imagine what a Nolan Star Wars movie would be like.

^ Very cool. I hadn’t realised it was a pumpkin until you posted the larger image, I though it was the sun reflecting in the visor! Did you make it yourself?

I think oojason said the past that if you leave the site, then hit refresh the cache (CTRL & F5 on most web browsers?), come back to the site, and any newly changed avatar should then appear. Otherwise it takes a few days for avatar changes to appear.

Thanks!

Yes, I made it. I’ve been doing it every October for the last few years. It’s actually not that hard and a lot of fun. I’ve tried to make a Death Star several times, but I just can’t get that one right.

I’d have zero interest in a Darth Vader movie no matter who was involved.

You just never know. When they first announced The Mandalorian, my interest was low. I thought it would be something I watched while waiting for the next movie or a series I was more interested in. Now it’s become one of my favorite Star Wars things ever.

If someone writes a compelling story with interesting characters, people will enjoy it. If it relies on just the presence of Darth Vader, then probably not so much.

Vader is synonymous with all things Star Wars, but other than a few brief cameos, we’ve only really seen Vader in the Original Trilogy. I’d like to see a little more Vader with modern film making.

I’d be interested in the time directly after RotS, way before Rebels and even before Fallen Order. There’s so much discovery going on during this time. People would be just beginning to see exactly what life under Palpatine’s new Empire is like. Any surviving Jedi or Padawans would just be figuring out the breadth of Order 66 and what they should do next. Vader of course is just embracing all he has done and what his new role is.

The Separatists have been wiped out, and the Rebellion isn’t even close to forming. The Inquisitors wouldn’t be a thing yet either, so Vader would be the main villain, not the cameo role he’s been in since the OT.

I think it could work, either a movie or a short 4 or 6 episode mini-series. Again, like anything else it would depend upon the writing and not relying on just the appearance of Vader as the appeal.

October’s here. Time’s come for a Halloween avatar. And what could be more appropriately horrific than a vampire/ghoul hybrid?

MANDO PUMPKIN!

The Mandalorian season 2, October 30.

This is the way.

Edit:
Well, I updated my avatar, but I don’t see it yet, but it will be the way, lol.

I don't think Revenge Of The Sith is as good as everyone says it is.

Sure the movies all have flaws, but there’s gotta be a bounds of reason here, right? Why even have a discussion if AOTC or the 2003 Clone Wars movie is on the same level as SW or ESB?

StarkillerAG said:

Hey, the 2003 Clone Wars movie was great! 😉

But I agree that there are bounds of reason. The idea that all Star Wars movies are the same level of quality just doesn’t make any sense to me.

That’s not exactly what I was trying to say. All Star Wars movies are not created equally. Also, entirely different people are bound to have entirely different opinions. I certainly didn’t mean to imply otherwise. Art is subjective, but yes, there are definitely objective statements that can be made regarding quality.

I just think it’s funny when fans of one set of Star Wars movies will defend against criticism, but then level the exact same criticism on another set of Star Wars movies. Then fans of those particular movies use the exact same counter arguments as before.

I’m talking about critiques like poor dialogue, wooden actors, and plot holes. Or when people chalk everything up to nostalgia or the lack of it, and how old you were when you first saw it. It’s like poetry, it rhymes versus something being unoriginal. There’s a long list.

It’s like a game of Mad Libs. If you erased the names of movies and and characters, lots of criticisms as well as the rebuttals would fit more than one Star Wars movie from more than one era.

I didn’t mean to say all movies are equal, just that people are more forgiving of flaws in the movies they like, for whatever reason, but more critical of similar flaws in another they may not be a fan of, for whatever reason.
