STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Well, the movies are only, what, 25 years apart? He'd be getting on a bit (he looks 40ish in AOTC) but who knows how long people live in this universe anyway? I think it's a little implausible that someone in his profession wouldn't have been offed at some point in the meantime, but that just shows his badassitude.

I think the Star Wars: Reborn project was going to conflate the two characters, or was at least considering it. I think young Boba is mostly in his own shot, so it shouldn't be too hard to do.

The Matrix: Noir Edition (obsolete thread - see info for new project)
Time

It may have originally been "MATRIX", and then changed to "THE MATRIX" for wide release or for the DVD. The boxset advertised a "new transfer" of the first film, so it's entirely possible this was taken from the original master rather than the modified one. Either way, I'll either create a new static "THE MATRIX" title card, or I'll be using the "THE" version, for this edit.

I think I'm more or less in agreement with Rhikter and Rayne. Without altering Ben's dialogue in Ep IV, it's going to be very difficult to do Ep III in such a way that both the hut scene makes sense to a first-time viewer and you save the reveal in Ep V. Personally, I don't mind that being shown in Ep III. I still see the two reveals in Ep V as major plot points, and the Yoda one is still a surprise — you think "Obi-Wan's sent him to Yoda, which makes sense, but he obviously didn't know that Yoda had gone batshit insane during his years of exile", which makes the revelation that he is [still] Yoda still a revelation of sorts. As for Vader's immortal line, I see it no longer as a "holy SHIT" moment but an "oh, you Utter Bastard" moment. Some of Alec Guinness' reactions in Ep IV, although (despite what Lucas may claim) they were not intended this way, work very well if we know that he's keeping Luke's true legacy a secret (most obviously the small pause before "a young Jedi named Darth Vader..." and the wary nod after "I want to become a Jedi like my father").

I thought InfoDroid and TJ Davis' Reborn project was the best way to tell the whole story and keeping the surprises. I think if you're going to have it in chronological order you have to sacrifice something.

My other point is: What would *we*, as fans, have thought if Lucas had gone and made the prequels and NEVER shown Darth Vader even in Episode III, as Ady's planning to do? Most of us were looking forward to seeing him stop angsting, get on with it, and kick some major Jedi butt. He becomes evil with half a movie to go and becomes the Darth Vader we remember with barely ten minutes to go. And some of us whined almost as much as Anakin. I think if Lucas had tried to pull that we'd have declared it the worst film of the series.

All that said, however, if anyone can pull it off, it's Adywan.

Monroville posted while I was writing this, and I have a couple responses to him: Tatooine was the perfect hiding place for Luke, because it was where Anakin Skywalker grew up. It would remind Vader of everything Anakin had once been, and so he would never return there. I forget where I read that explanation at first, but it makes enough sense for me. In addition, I don't think Anakin will build C-3PO in Adywan's version, and there are squillions of 'droids built of the same parts as both him and R2-D2. His introduction of R2 as his "counterpart" indicates it's not uncommon for 3PO-types and R2-types to be paired together.

In addition, Luke is not very attuned to the Force until he's trained with Yoda. Vader may be able to pick up something, but the Force might not be able to tell him anything about the nature of the individual, much less his genetics. We've never once seen in any of the films that the Force can tell anyone anything about someone's genealogy. Vader only knows Luke is his son when he discovers his name is Skywalker. I expect that the midichlorians will also be excised from Adywan's edits.

So does the fact were all sitting here debating exactly how it all should have/"did" happen just make us a bunch of Star Wars Jehovah's Witnesses?

Maybe you could say that. Although we recognise that every version is just as valid as ours, that is there are as many "canons" as there are viewers — we just think ours is *better* :p.

Sorry I don't think I could help with models or puppets — my experience is largely confined to LEGO. But the news is good to hear. You're taking this far more seriously than is healthy. :D

But *puts hand up for any voice or live acting if and when you need it for the PT*.

If I took an original Van Gogh, cut it up, rearranged it, painted in some new bits, and then showed it at a gallery, would I be shot down?

Not if the original continued to exist and you acknowledged its creator. Oh wait... how many millions of copies has Star Wars sold? How many of us will, even though we despise the colour problems and the SE fiddling, and have a version without them, still go and buy it again when it comes out on Blu-Ray?

What i have decided is that, for the DVD-9 version of ESB:R i will be doing an extra alternate audio track that will have all the cues integrated back into the movie

AWESOME! I look forward very much to hearing that. Will there be both versions of the score-only track too? (I know it's horribly rude of me to respond to such wonderful news with a request for more, but I just wondered.)

yes, the stars will still do the "streaky thing".

Hyperspace explained for the layman: "Streaky thing goes in, streaky thing comes out."

The Matrix: Noir Edition (obsolete thread - see info for new project)
Time

Hi OTers,

I started here lurking and then posting on the threads for Adywan’s Revisited and the Reborn projects, and finally got an idea for an edit of my own.

Much of The Matrix is close to monochrome as it is, and I thought it would work very well with the scenes set inside the computer done in high-contrast black-and-white (and the blue filter removed from the real-world scenes). This was also inspired by TRON, which has black-and-white characters in a Technicolor world inside the computer. The main two reasons to do it in black-and-white are that the scenes inside the computer have some stylistic similarities to old-fashioned film noir, and that I think black-and-white/colour is a better and more overt way to make the distinction between real world and simulation than green filter/blue filter.

The other thing is that the phone call that ends the film could simply be the end of a longer call which we could hear (as narration) throughout the film, which would be very noirish, but unless someone here has a plausible Keanu Reeves impression I doubt we could make it work. It’s been suggested I could lift dialogue from the sequels, if I was only making the one edit. Probably will too, as they’re less noirish to begin with and also simply less good.

I’ve been chatting to Johnny Ringo about music. I expect I’d keep most if not all of what’s there, but a couple of suggestions for modern-noirish music we came up with were If I Was Your Vampire by Marilyn Manson and Private Investigations by Dire Straits.

As for actual editing, there are a couple of scenes which I might take the knife to. The scene where Neo first meets Trinity always annoyed me; if I can find a way of removing or at least trimming it without breaking the plot I’ll probably take it. Any other suggestions welcome.

Finally, there are a few elements within the simulated world that would have to remain in colour, as was done in Sin City and Schindler’s List. The most obvious ones are the red and blue pills and the woman in red, whose colours are referred to in dialogue and which it would be appropriate to show. The computer displays I’m tossing up about. I want to have both the computer displays in the Matrix and the Matrix feed in the real world either both green or both white. Suggestions for this or other elements that you think should be coloured are welcome.

So, um... anyone have any covers put together for this project?

Bit early, innit? However, I made my covers and disc art for the whole set of Revisited films (with placeholder text and such obviously) at the same time as my ANH one; if you want I could upload a preview in a couple days. I won't upload the full-res version until the film and DVD features are finalised.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Edit Suggestions
Time

My request is that it get a better name. I don't generally like film series that have too-formulaic titles. Star Wars (when considered as six movies) or Harry Potter is all right since they're all one story. The OT considered on its own is different, because in its OT state, the original film is self-contained — to me, Star Wars is A New Hope only when it follows Revenge of the Sith.

The Indiana Jones franchise is not an arcing story, it's four discrete standalone stories. The first Indy movie is not Indiana Jones and the anything, it's Raiders of the Lost Ark. Sticking the formula bit on there makes it jarring and artificial. With this film, it's the same; the title is long and unwieldy. After nineteen years, a more appropriate title is The Return of Indiana Jones. If someone's making an edit, I submit this for his consideration. It's especially appropriate if he's considering his edit to be returning the "spirit" of the series to the film, although I personally didn't feel it was missing.
