***//BUILDING EMPIRE\\: PAL & NTSC DVD - NEW EDITION NOW ONLINE! ***
Time
Hmm, transcoding to NTSC is something I want/need to do with a couple of PAL discs I have, but it seems like you have to be some sort of genius with million dollar equipment to do it right. I've done a bit of searching around this forum and the FE forum, but didn't find much. (I probably just didn't look in the right places) Can anyone point me towards a reasonable solution?

Macrovision problem
Time
Howdy.

I would like to capture VHS on my computer. I tried Nero Vision 5, and it showed a preview and all that jazz, but it said it's macrovision protected and won't let me record. There are things I have that I know will never be released on DVD, so I just want to preserve them digitally. Is there a way to get around it using that program, or should I try something else?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That is a massive difference!

It would be really interesting to know if any Lowry people have seen this thread. They may think "I wish we would've had time to do even a fraction of what DE has done." I'm sure there are some big Star Wars fans that work for Lowry who felt very excited and also disappointed at the same time with that project.

Maybe it's my monitor's fault (too much glare right now, maybe? Or maybe it's just my eyes...), but the only one I really see a difference in is the removal of the bluish glow above the Star Destroyer's engines. That one is readily apparent, but I'm not seeing it in the other two, I'm afraid.

Nice that you've found a "simple" way to apply fixes to so many things that were bothering you. This must be an amazing learning experience, not only for you, but for all those that can apply some of your knowledge to their work as well. Your work is going far beyond being just a great edit.

On a slightly selfish note, I really hope you can look into that "In fact, I uh...also thinking about their agreement" thing. I can't be the only one who has noticed that over the years.

Yeah, if you're still/again working on ANH, you should look into addressing that "I, uh...also thinking about our agreement" issue. Remember? Don't have to insert "was" in there, but I can't even hear the 's' sound at the end of the word. It's like a bad audio edit or something. I've always wondered what happened to that line.

Here's another pic, first of all:

The prototype sold for $180,000 (cost around half a million to build, though) and will be on permanent display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A.

Here's some extra info from petersen.org: "The Mach 5 has been described as “the most famous race car in the world” because of the continuing popularity of the 1967 Speed Racer cartoon series, which has an estimated fan base of 50 million people. In 2000, this three dimensional interpretation of the cartoon Mach 5 completed a nationwide automotive safety tour sponsored by the Child Safety Network. Speed Racer Motors later unveiled plans to build a Signature Series of 100 road-ready Mach 5’s numbered and signed by Peter Fernandez, the voice actor and creative force behind the Speed Racer Cartoons. Unlike this prototype which has a mid-engine, the Corvette based “production” roadsters will feature a 5.7 liter, 385 horsepower V-8 engine mounted in the front."

They do the same kind of thing here. They did it at Burger King for a number of years, and there was always a big turnout. But now they've switched it to A&W, which has the tiniest little parking lot. They could only fit 1/4 as many cars, I'm sure. It's like an afterthought. I don't know what happened, really.

Still, nice to see some rarer cars out now that the weather is nice here. It's cottage country around here, too, so a lot of the big city tycoons come up in their fancy cars. I've seen some Ferrari 360s, Vipers, Cobras, Porsches. It's cool being able to spot them from a mile away, because they're so unique compared to all the blandness on the road at any given time.

That's something I wish I could've done, too, but circumstances didn't allow it.

One disappointment at the second last big car show I went to (International Auto Show in Toronto) was that that Ford 49 I mentioned earlier was going to be there...the day after I went. I was so excited to see the signs for it and so sad knowing I wouldn't get to see it. Did get to see the Ford Explorer woody, though. That thing was great!

I've seen that Corvette, too. Not for real, though, just in my Car and Driver calendar. Looks a little odd stretched out so much at the front, but overall, I think it's a great idea.

Oh, and I almost seriously made an offer on a Metropolitan last year. (just like this one) Does your love of Metropolitans have anything to do with being a "Weird Al" fan? That's who I think of whenever I see one!

Yes, they certainly could. Look how well the retro Fords have done in recent years.

I really wish the Ford 49 had made it to production. But at least there are lots of images of one of the classiest, nicest concepts I've ever seen:

Over the years, I've debated time and again which one vehicle from the Star Wars movies I would have if it were possible. My answer changes time and again. I thought it might be fun to make a thread about what our dream vehicles are, Star Wars included.

Here are some categories I've thought of:

Star Wars: Speeder bike or custom swoop
Star Trek: U.S.S. Defiant
Car, sensible family-type: Subaru Legacy, current design
Car, super: McLaren F1
Car, muscle: Cobra
Motorbike, retail: Something simple like a Yamaha Virago
Motorbike, custom: one I've designed based on a Model A pickup truck
Motorbike, fantasy: Tron lightbike
SUV-type: Range Rover

Ok, that's enough for now. Feel free to add as many categories as you'd like.

HA! And they'd look even crazier than people now do, because they don't even have bluetooth dealies sticking out of their ears. Just guys whizzing along seemingly talking to themselves.

I can picture one of them talking about something, then cutting to footage of that one crashing into a tree. "So, he's like 'nuh uh!' And I'm like 'whatever!' And he's all...wait a second. *turns around to look behind him* Anyway, he's all AHHHHH!!!" *boom*
