That would be the worst. He's conflicted on enough things as it is. I just wish he'd be satisfied with things sometimes. It's like if he was able to send the exact vision of the movies from his brain to film, he'd start messing around with it as soon as it was printed anyway.

I guess the big thing for [I'm assuming] a lot of us is that we'll wait to hear some reviews from people we respect before we rush out like fools and buy up every copy. That's what I plan to do, knowing their penchant for "tweaking" things.
I love that idea of sending the SE discs back to Lucasfilm, too. Gotta admit, though, they're marketing geniuses. Seems like they want people to compare the two versions and hope to demonstrate how "superior" the SE versions are to the O-OT ones. It's like they're still pushing the movies to the newer generation that relies more on flash, and trying to shut up the older fans by giving us what we've wanted for many years. At any rate, I hope it all works out well.
Lucas certainly is a tough guy to figure out. I can understand the feeling of things not being good enough as I feel it sometimes when I'm drawing. But I know when enough is enough, whereas, until the day he dies, he won't be satisfied with any of the six Star Wars movies. People are so wary of anything he does now, especially when it comes to the Star Wars franchise, thinking "oh boy, what nonsense is he gonna add to it now?"

Speaking of Prune Face, which do you prefer?
ROTJ version (that I didn't realize was a Rebel until I saw the toy the first time):

or
Dick Tracy version:

Not sure I'd wanna bump into either of them in a dark alley. The Dick Tracy one looks like death warmed over. Either he's a younger man who just looks ridiculously old for some reason, or he's so tough he has survived that long. The ROTJ Prune Face is a little odd. He gets style points for the eyepatch, but he kinda looks like an old woman (a burn victim, mind you), and his rifle is decidedly non-Star Wars looking. Heh.

I feel the same way. Some is good, most is just unneeded. The farty/bubbly sounds in the trash compactor are pretty bad (and used more than once, too, with no variation!).

What do people feel about the "Wilhelm" scream? It's so iconic that it's used in a lot of different TV shows and movies now. It's not even an in-joke anymore. I kinda just roll my eyes now when I hear it.

Always picture him saying "whaaazuuuup?", dated though that is.

And here's one my brother took a few years ago late evening with a cheap-o camera:

Always loved the effect. It reminds me of taking a picture of a street sign with a flash and all the light gets sucked into it. The light creates a hazy ring around the goose.

LUKE: You see, sir, because of the new manufacturing process we've used, these new fluorescent lights can even withstand a direct hit with another and not break.
VADER: Impressive! Most impressive.

- The creature outside Jabba's palace belching (and shuddering whilst doing so) was very Muppety. The Sarlacc belching was almost as bad.
- Didn't like the SE Wampa stuff too much. Would've preferred it stay behind-the-scenes more, to make it more mysterious, kinda like Boba Fett.
- Speaking of Boba Fett, his getting hit on the back by a blind man, then screaming like a banshee was no fun.
- I think this was only an SE thing (could be wrong), but in ANH when Luke and Leia are at the corridor with no bridge, Leia fires her blaster a couple of times and it sounds just like any ordinary shotgun or Magnum or something. Always struck me as odd and very out of place.
- Various line changes and additions made to the SEs. You know the ones.
One thing I do like very much, however, is that crazy face Bib Fortuna makes with his mouth wide open. First time I noticed it, I laughed my head off!

I enjoyed them a lot. ANH had a bit more info than was in the movies, which was nice. ESB was closest to the movie, I'd say. ROTJ had quite a bit more in it that we didn't see in the movie. I really liked the extra dialogue between Vader, Luke and the Emperor, especially pertaining to Yoda.
I also enjoyed "Splinter of the Mind's Eye." Not great, but definitely good. Some nice foreshadowing in it with the limbs being lopped off, and it was interesting to see the relationship between Luke and Leia, considering certain things hadn't been answered yet.
P.S. I love that Zangief baby attack!

Let's see, Datsun 1600/510 (reminds one of the old Ford Escorts. Loved the "dogbone" grille on them), Datsun 240Z (looks early, like maybe 1970 or so), and Datsun 1600/510 estate? (I dunno why I put estate instead of wagon. Too much Top Gear, maybe?)

Here are a few thoughts I just want to add all at once before I forget something:
It's horrifically superfluous, and serves no purpose other than to say "look! more special bits that weren't there the first time!" The same could be said for some of the shots of the Falcon flying through Cloud City.
Cloud car fly-by removal doesn't bug me, as long as it doesn't mess up any of the Leia shot. I quite agree about the Falcon, though. Completely unnecessary bells and whistles to make the SE fancier. It's all too...sparkly. (I will admit to loving it at first, though! But given the choice, I'd get rid of some of it and make it more OT)
- I think the rocks in the asteroid chase pictured above look all right, but yeah, those TIEs could be less colorful. Would help the scene overall, I think.
- Here's something that I don't know is even an issue anymore (I don't have the '04 DVDs, but lots of VHS copies): There is at least one scene in the movie where the film is reversed. Vader is talking to someone (forget who at the moment) and the rank insignia is on the wrong side of his uniform, etc... If it's still like that on the DVD, is it an easy fix to flip it?

That is so cool! Even as a youngster, I always thought "why is it so jumpy? It looks like it's just floating there."
- Shouldn't Clive Revill be left in the credits somehow? He did make a valuable contribution to the classic version, after all. His voice will always be burned into our brains. Then again, they never did list the lady who portrayed the emperor, and her contribution was certainly valuable as well. Hmm... At any rate, in the ANH thread, I listened to the edit you made to make McDiarmid say "yes...yesssss," and it sounds very good, despite Vader's wonky breathing. Haha.

You're insane. I mean that in the nicest way possible, of course.

Anyway, while this is my first post, I've been reading (and reading and reading...) threads at this forum for quite a while now. I've learned a lot over that time and it's nice to see so many people who are passionate about making the OT the way we want it to be, not the way Lucas does. He can certainly do whatever he wants to with it, but finding editions like this that improve so much on the lacklustre '04 DVD release is great!
I got the DE ANH via Demonoid and I am quite impressed, as I knew I would be! (no artwork was included with the torrent, though, as you know. Is it available somewhere?) Thank you so much!
