Déja vu...
Déja vu...
I have several years worth of Star Wars Insider magazine. Might find something in them, but I'm not holding my breath. I just had a look at a couple of "Technical Manuals" and they yielded nothing. No help in "The Art of ESB" either.

if IMAX, a format that touts itself as being the highest resolution currently possible, trumping even all them newfangled "digital formats" (which it is and does) converts to *4k* digital projection, it'll be completely pointless beyond being something projected on a giant screen, which you can get anyway if you go to a movie theater and sit in the 4th or 5th row (I saw WALL-E that way and I didn't have to strain my neck, but still could see nothing but movie :-D).
Yeah, at some point, you're gonna have to be quite a distance from the screen to be able to tell what's going on in the first place.
Hey, have you heard of NHK's ultra hi-def? (http://broadcastengineering.com/hdtv/nhk-public-testing-ultra-hd/) Pretty interesting. I first saw it on a science program called Daily Planet a while back.

That's my biggest reason for not getting it, too, I think. I could read more about the whole story until I'm blue in the eyes, but I just don't care. I will say that MagnoliaFan's edit is quite good, though. I'm enjoying it much more than I did seeing it in the theater. That's kinda sad, in a way.
Aaaaanyway, um, yes, The Empire Strikes Back. Great film.
Great to hear about the equipment, Ady. Hope it's good to you!
I've started watching MagnoliaFan's TPM edit and...I still don't get it. :p Granted, I've only seen the movie all the way through maybe twice, but I've never fully understood what was going on. Something about a Trade Federation and slavery and some moron with long ears? I dunno. I wish they had just started the movie with the Jedi council learning of a child that could participate in pod races and 'maybe he's force sensitive' and all that jazz, and they're just sending Ginn and Kenobi over there to see, and thus would begin some wacky adventures. Bah, what a mess...

Give the head of Luke seen in Vader's mask on Dagobah sith eyes. I think that could really enhance this scene
Great idea!!! And do the same in ROTJ when Luke is about to kill Vader then make them return to normal when he realizes what he's about to become.
And no...Not a good idea at all!!!
An interesting idea, I'll give you that, but I agree 101% with HotRod. The "sith eyes" thing is just a cheesy thing that many, many filmmakers have used as a way of saying "ok, people, this guy is really bad/possessed." It's a total cliché and I just roll my eyes everytime I see it. This would be another instance of doing something just because he can, which is not the way to think.
Oops, sorry. Moth3r to the rescue again. :p
Hey there.
Can anyone describe to me what "Addicted to Star Wars" is? Sounds interesting. :)

Oh, and just to make sure, you are making all of the Star Destroyer "exhaust" blue, right? I noticed a shot in RotJ that has both blue and yellow on seperate Destroyers, with most of the Empire ones just having white "exhaust." Also, what kind of consistency can be brought to the fact that most of the time in ESB only the three main engines are lit... I know you talked about doing the Falcon's, just making sure the Star Destroyers were included in that consistency check.
yeh the stardestroyers engines will be blue and as for the engines, i never noticed that only 3 are lit. not sure what to do there. I'll have to have a god think about that
I'm thinking that maybe when a Star Destroyer is at rest or in orbit it only need's 3 engines and it only needs all 7 when chasing Blockade Runners and Falcons. That could save you a lot of work.
Could say that the 3 big ones are the "impulse" engines (though you'd think the small ones would be) and having the extras on would be like "full impulse"? Heh. :)
I'm glad to hear you'll be ripping the PT to shreds, Ady. :) While we're [briefly] on the subject of the PT, will any color correction need to be done to them? I would think far less than the OT, at least.

Oh and does everyone else see the green and red text above?
Yep. Looks strange. So is this Sky a satellite internet connection or something? One of my friend's whop lives well out of town has that, since cable internet is currently impossible to have out there and they can't get DSL either, for whatever reason. Anyway, it's awful. :p Very inconsistent and unreliable, from what I've heard. (and seen a bit, too)
Anywho, I'm sure Ady will be doing something with that incinerator scene and I think it would be fun if he kept it a complete secret! ;)
Taken from the 35mm thread, this is a still from the Vintage Edit, but is present in the other examples as well:
Very crooked saber there, Luke. :p

OK, thanks. What do I do with the md5 file that is the first file (the one that comes right before the "...part01.rar" file)?
The md5 file is a sort of tool to check the integrity of everything that's included in the RAR. You don't need to use it. (but if you're not sure that everything is hunky dory, you can run it) I usually just ignore it.
I've noticed that, too. Thanks for mentioning it.
Interesting development there.
I hate to ask, but have you been able to find some sort of improved storage solution for the soundtracks? :p I'm really looking forward to getting the V and VI albums someday. :)

He put one of the Biggs scenes in the "Deleted Scenes" section of the DVD9, and it looks like it's had some processing done (Ady can confirm precisely what), but it still is basically "unrestored."
I remember reading something about it once upon a time, but if you could give us a refresher on what you did with that scene, we'd appreciate it, Ady! :)
That was great, Ady! Thanks for doing that. :)

I really like the idea of seeing Palpatine grinning at his desk in Coruscant after the Hologram sequence. Can it be done?
I think you mean [emperor]"Can it be done?"[/emperor] :)
Just watched the second Emperor scene you've done, GM, and I love it too. Radically different take on it, lots of fun! And I still really like the interruption. Makes you remember that under that tough guy exterior, he's still a whiny brat that needs a good talking to from time to time.

I value Ady's edit... I don't agree with it... but I understand it.
All the more commendable that you're willing to contribute to the project. For the greater good! ;) Personally, I don't mind these edits, because I know the originals are being restored as best as we're able, too. If they weren't, then I'd be concerned. Though I can't speak for him, I wouldn't be surprised if Ady has had similar lines of thought.

I don't know I just always understood that R2 is a maintenance droid with limited beeps and whistles....C3PO on the other hand is a human/ cyborg relations droid and as a consequence, has a much more sophisticated vocab....
Yeah, besides, R2 probably communicates to 3P0 and other droids via bluetooth, so the beeps and stuff are just for the benefits of the humans, so it seems like he's "talking" to them. Haha.
Oh, and GhostAlpha, instead of just saying "I didn't think it was that good," WHY didn't you think it was that good? Criticism is always better when it's constructive. ;)

I really like doubleofive's suggestion about the fleeing Rebel Troop Transporter entering Hyperspace, after it's gotten past the damaged, floundering Stardestroyer!
Me too. That would look neat-o!
And I found the T-Bone page about the 'seven pieces' scene: http://www.starwarz.com/tbone/index.php?categoryid=10&p2_start=10 (the link is a bit messed up, as it takes you to the page the article is mentioned on, but not to the page itself. You just have to scroll down a bit to the Seven Pieces entry and click on Read More...)
Here's a pic of the prop:
Way to go, Luke. That's only six... Not ready are you! :p

I would have loved for there to be more training montage, especially if it was set to "Eye of the Tiger". :-D
Or "You're the Best", from The Karate Kid. :p
Yeah, one of the extra training things that was in the novel, at least, was that Luke had to slice through a metal bar with his lightsaber seven times before it hit the ground, right? (did they intend to film that, too?) And I seem to remember different sources said different numbers of slices.

I don't know if you could do this, Adywan, but I liked how in the original version Reville said "yes" twice, with a pause inbetween, like he took a second to ponder it after agreeing. Is it possible to somehow edit McDiarmid's dialogue so that he does the same? Or maybe apply a series of filters to Reville's dialogue, and add one of the "yes"'s to the '04 dialogue? I understand what I'm asking for may (and probably is) be ridiculous, but I think that if it could be done it would work well.
I am looking to add the other "yes" because i don't like the single version as it exists in the 2004 SE. It's only a rough track but i changed the timing on some of of Ian's speech to help eliminate the long drawn out syllables in his delivery and also so i can add the extra "yes" once i can find something suitable
Way back when in the Darth Editous Star Wars thread, DE himself posted a version of McDiarmid saying yes twice, one slightly drawn out, with a pause. It messed up the music, but the intent was simply to hear him say it twice with a different inflection, and the music fix would be done later. Here's the post: (link)
Unfortunately, that mp3 link he posted doesn't work now. I still have it, but it's stuck on my corrupted hard drive. :p But maybe someone will remember it and be able to post it here if they still have it!
P.S. Weyseed posted this pic in DE's Star Wars thread:
I think the original looks like the baddest dude in the cosmos compared to McDiarmid. Haha.
