I...nevermind.
I...nevermind.
Thanks, 005. I just replied about this in the ESB:R thread.

Thanks, 005. Man, I wish that bar wasn't there. Hilarity would ensue, I tells ya!
Darth Editous said he was doing it, so I wonder if he was going to ignore the bar, or get rid of it or what. Wish I could ask him!
Bingo, I keep seeing your mock-ups only because someone has included them in a quote, because you keep editing your old posts. :p
^We should pool some money together and buy her a gift for her patience and endurance. Maybe even have some flowers delivered to their house in the name of OT.com. ;)
Bingowings said:But Independence Day is a terrible film, it's Mars Attacks! without the jokes (not to mention the only film I actually shouted at and I got applause too).
What did you shout at it, if I may ask? ;) Sounds like you were doing live Rifftrax.
I've only seen around 3 or 4 minutes of Independence Day; one scene with Randy Quaid saying some tired catchphrases (the kind that make it seem like they're really trying to make it a catchphrase...which I hate) and one with a dog jumping away from some fire in a tunnel in slow motion or something. I immediately thought 'ehhh, this is not for me' and I've never actually watched it. I did see Mars Attacks! and that was a colossal waste of time. :p
Anyway, ESB wishlist... Hmm, well, I wish someone (especially Adywan in the ESB:R thread) would comment on that idea of having R2 fall straight into the hole after he fixes the hyperdrive, rather than that bounce/whatever thing he does.
"because it wasn't "his" verison, so to speak, he didn't release a DVD-9 of it."
Maybe that's because..............................his wife made it? Just throwing that out there.
Haha. ;)
Is that Will Smith reference from Independence Day?
Gaffer Tape said:I suppose the problem with Klingons would be over which style of Klingons to put in a future movie: the original smooth-headed ones or the more familiar ridge-heads? Most likely the latter, but you know some fans would bitch about that.
Meh, they already explained it too much on "Enterprise." My favorite explanation was from DS9, where Worf just said it's not something they discuss with outsiders. Leaves a lot to the imagination, just like Boba Fett should've been.
Would that I could, but I can't. :p A portion of that sometime, sure. Heh.
I don't think we should go by what's in a book or a site that ends with 'pedia' too much, though. Those numbers and stories seem to change every time a new version of the movies or books comes out. I think it's more important in some cases to go with what the eye perceives.
ChainsawAsh said:I always thought the Falcon should be MUCH smaller than it is when it's attached to the Star Destroyer. It makes the SD seem too small to me.
You know what I just thought of? That scene in ROTJ where the A-Wing blows up those globe dealies (shield generators?) on a Star Destroyer. It is dwarfed! And the Falcon isn't thaaaaat much bigger than an A-Wing. So...I dunno, is my thinking right on that? I'm just going by memory. Actually, looking at the screengrab of the Falcon attached to the SD and thinking of what size the A-Wing might be, maybe it's not that far off. :p
Thoughts? ;)
Thanks for the explanation, C.A.
Oh, and I did like Pike as well. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I'm a fan of Bruce Greenwood already, especially from his series "Nowhere Man." I liked Simon Pegg in it as well, though he was sort of comic relief on top of comic relief on top of comic relief. Haha.
I may see this again next Tuesday (cheap night) with my mother. I told her a bit about it, but mostly how I felt about things, not plot stuff. One thing I said I wondered about is if some characters, like Sulu, for instance, will have a chance to be expanded on in future installments. Would be nice.

Making him a full Captain in command of the flagship at this point is rushing things too much.
I felt it was really rushed, too. Spock loses his cool, so the cocky, laid-back dude jumps in the chair and no one says a word. Haha. Oh well, I guess it just wouldn't have felt Star Trek-y enough if Kirk wasn't in the chair. I do see the logic of it.
Oh, and how old was Spock's mother supposed to have been in the movie, anyway? (and in turn, how old was Spock in relation to her age?) The guy that played Spock is 6 years younger than her. :p They can wrinkle up Winona Ryder, but uh...well, I found it weird. She looked her age, which isn't even 40 yet, just a bit weathered.
My problem is with modern action films in general more than anything, I think. Too much over-the-top action and clichés (including cheesy one-liners, which not even The Dark Knight was spared of) drive me nuts. It just gets to be too much at some point. I was so glad when the battle in Transformers came to an end, for example. It was just at the point where I felt like 'wake me up when it's done, please.'
I am WAY more into story than flash, and in this era of computerizing as much as possible (even a helicopter in The Day the Earth Stood Still?! Surely it would've been cheaper to just rent a chopper for a day), I find story comes second sometimes. To that end, that's why I wasn't crazy about the PT. Too much focus on flash.
Bingowings said:It's not the bold new reworking everyone thinks it is, it's just an average Star Trek film full of the usual flaws just as TPM was an average Star Wars film with much of the same problems that Jedi had (only without the great OT cast to pull it along).
Well said. Way too many people are going way too ga-ga over it, I think. And I bet a lot of those people are young-ish. Once the hype settles down, I'm sure a lot of people will see that it's not a great film. Decent, yes, but far from great.
Reminds me of when my brother came out of the theater after Transformers and said that was the best movie he'd ever seen. Absolute nonsense, and I'm sure he'd laugh now if I told him he'd said that.

I've seen you mention that about the arena scene in AOTC before, but can't think of what you mean. Is it a problem with shadows?
I don't repress it at all. In fact, I watched ADM's extended version of ROTS a few weeks ago. It's just story elements I've never understood that I don't care to research. :p To be honest, going into the theater to see ROTS, I was most interested to see new ship and character designs, especially as it was getting closer to the look of the OT. (stormtrooper outfits, for example) The plot was somewhat secondary, which is a MAJOR thing for me and goes against my reason for watching things.
teharri said:Great special effects.
To me, unless it's a tech demo or something, that is the lowest criteria for a good movie, just like a pretty video game is useless if it has bad controls. :p My young friend said about Star Trek before we saw it 'the graphics look cool.' Then he thought a second and said 'but you're more concerned with story, right?'
But yes, the special effects were nice. I'd've been shocked if they weren't! Haha.
Anchorhead said:These days, I sometimes read comments on here about Phantom and I have to struggle to remember the scene being discussed or some of the character names mentioned.
Same here, and with all the fanedits of it I've watched, I've probably seen it 5 or 6 times more than you have. :p I've still only seen the theatrical presentation once, back in 1999. I bought the video and whathaveyou, but I only watched the pod race scene. The problem for me is the convoluted storytelling. It sorta killed my enthusiasm for new Star Wars projects. I had higher hopes going into AotC and while I did like it better than TPM, it wasn't by much. Going into RotS, my expectations were almost non-existent. It was just 'ok, I do know a bit of what to expect storywise, plus I'm going to have to put up with overblown CGI and grating sound effects.' I did end up liking it most of the three, but it's still nowhere near Star Wars or Empire on the enjoyment meter.
Even though they are years away, would you consider watching Adywan's versions of the prequels? He plans to make radical changes on par with his disappointment. ;)
Oh, ok. There was a note about the numbers when it got full, but I forget what it said.
Asteroid-Man said:By the way Ripplin, did you get my pm?
Yessir, and I'll be heading to the post office tomorrow. I'm gonna send two in case the first burn goes funny. If it works the first time, you can either keep the second one or send it back. I'll leave it up to you. Haha.
Yeah, I'd like to watch the Rifftrax HS. I brought the KCCI version over to my mother's place a few weeks ago and we watched it. Skipped the musical numbers (except Carrie), but watched the rest. Didn't hate it. :p I thought the part where Harvey Korman plays the malfunctioning android thing was funny.
bkev said:Hmm... he did well in Wall-E, no? Don't see why his sound effects were bad here.
Yes, he did very well with Wall-E. The sound effects weren't bad in Star Trek at all. As I said, it's the "warbling" effect he adds to so much stuff now. If you didn't mind, great! But I hate it. I would just love to hear engines run smoothly, not with the sound going in and out, or like it's about to stall all the time.
If I could somehow apply that warbling effect to scenes from the OT, I bet everyone else would hate them too. ;) Imagine every snowspeeder passing by going 'wawawawawa,' for instance. Like, gag me with a spoon, ok?!
Ah yes, the ol' Ave Maria one. :) That was a neat touch, but I think I do like the new one a bit better.
