Child's Play - in widescreen from Monsters HD? A preservation? (Released)
Time
So is Child's Play going to be on MySpleen as well or will it be someplace else? I snagged Monster Squad from myspleen and can't wait for Child's Play. I've hated that fullscreen disc since it first came out. I've wanted a widescreen dvd for soooo long now. If it's as nice as Monster Squad, it will definitely replace my other dvd.

Wow DJ... that Monster Squad looks excellent! I haven't watched it yet, but I did scan through it and was majorly impressed with what I saw! It's safe to say that I can pitch my laserdisc (and the dvd rip that I made from it) in the trash now.

Can't wait to see your Child's Play HiDef rip. That Pan & Scan release is horrible! I can't believe they haven't done a proper release of that dvd yet!!

Thanks again! Rick

Star Wars Limited Edition Screen Captures.
Time
I will happily be buying the discs tomorrow (probably the Best Buy tin). I've owned the SE dvd's since they were first released, but honestly haven't watched them. I will watch the OOT discs soon though (probably over the weekend) just to see the quality. Even though I'll finally own an original set of them, I still look foward to the XO discs to see how their hard work turns out. How are they coming along Zion? Was the announcement of these dvd's finally getting released a "downer" for you guys or are you much more determined to release a nicer product to see if you can top these sub-standard releases?
You know..... I've made several versions of these from my laserdiscs over the years. A couple of months before Fox announced this release, I went out and bought a new Pioneer CLD-97 LD player and a new SEALED Definitive Set so that I could re-do these in a much nicer set than I had done previously. Even though I was happy when they announced the OOT releases, a part of me was saddened that I had just spent money on the new player and LD's. I now own 4 full laserdisc sets (including 2 copies of the Definitive set) and a new laserdisc player. Oh well....

Who is Excited For LEGO Star Wars 2?!
Time
I thought the first one was a very cool game, but wouldn't be interested in playing it for myself. It's very entertaining for the "little ones" though. I burned it to my Xbox HD for my nephew to play it (and will do the same for Lego SW II). I am interested to check it out though. The commercial with Chewie ripping the arms off a Stormtrooper was pretty funny!

www.dvdempire.com O-OT pre-orders rankings (updated)

It was posted a while ago that Best Buy Canada was going to have an exclusive tin. I'm not sure if anyone's posted it yet, but Best Buy is now offering this in the US. Here's a link:
Best Buy Tin

It's a nice looking tin, but too expensive! They need to drop that price quite a bit, otherwise I'll just buy the singles somewhere else for under $20 each.

Even if there is NO remastering involved in the Fox DVD's, you have to take into account the source material they are using as opposed to the X0 project's sources. Fox has the MASTER source that the laserdiscs were made from. At the time the laserdiscs were made, LD technology was pretty much "top of the line". However, it is still a media that doesn't compare to the original masters (just like the VHS tapes don't come close to comparing to the original sources they are derived from).

So, you have Lucas/Fox making a dvd from the source material directly. Their equipment and source material is FAR superior to any "Laserdisc>Computer capture>Re-authoring>DVD" project that we can do. It's just a simple fact! Again, I'm not knocking the X0 Project or anyone else's project, I'm just stating the facts. So far, what I've seen from the X0 Team is AMAZING and I cannot compliment those guys enough for what they've shown us so far! And again, I hope I'm lucky enough to see their final product. I still can't see how the final product could look better than the source materials and the studio dvd authoring that Fox will give us.

I'm not defending Fox/Lucas for releasing these dvd's the way they are. Those that know me personally know that I'm always bashing Lucas (and have been since I left the theatre when Episode I was over). As ridiculous as I think his Prequel Movies, SE editions, and utter lack of respect for the OOT movies are, I still cannot wait to get these films on DVD. If this is all we end up getting on dvd, I'll at least be happy knowing that I finally have them on dvd. As stated before though, I don't think this is the last we'll see of these movies on DVD.

I believe I've seen most of the ones that are out there. They range from very BAD quality to very GOOD quality. As I stated in my last post, there have been some that have done amazing work, considering the source material they work with. However, I don't feel that any of them are as good as what Fox will be releasing. Could Fox release a better set than what they are releasing? YES. But I have to believe that their STUDIO PRODUCED dvd is going to be way beyond what we've seen from the fan-made dvd's. How could they not?! They are working with far better sources and FAR SUPERIOR equipment than any of us could hope to use (including the top-of-the-line X0 LD player). I don't say this to knock the X0 project or any other LD transferred dvd, I'm just stating the truth.

I've bought 2 laserdisc players over the last few years (including a top notch Pioneer CLD-97 player) and also have bought no less than 4 copies of the laserdiscs (including a FACTORY SEALED copy of the DEFINITIVE COLLECTION). I've made what I consider to be excellent dvd's and most of my friends and family think they are great. However, there's no way it could compare to what FOX is releasing!

Again, I'm just as disappointed as everyone else on this board that they are not ANAMORPHIC, however I'm not going to fool myself into thinking that I'm not buying these dvd's. I'm sure the money hungry Lucas (or FOX without Lucas being behind them) will release these films again. Probably anamorphic, probably BluRay/HD-DVD, and probably whatever format lies beyond that. In the meantime, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy these films when they are released in September! And so will most of you!!

I'm going to wait until it's near the release date and see who has the cheapest price. I AM DEFINITELY BUYING THEM. I've been waiting for the OOT for a long time and it's finally here! Does it suck that they may be letterboxed instead of anamorphic? YES. Will it still be the BEST transfer we've seen of these movies? YES!

I've been coming to this board for quite some time now. I've made a few copies from my various laserdiscs over the years and enjoyed coming here to see what others have been working on. I've downloaded various "fan made" discs and also purchased bootlegs online before (which has cost me as much as what I'll end up paying for the official releases when they come out). I'm sure many of you have done the same!

Everyone on this board has waited patiently for this to be released... even after George Luca$ has stated that he would never release them. Those that are bit**ing on this board about "buying what Lucas throws at us" are the same people that bought the SE dvd's (even though that version is exactly what MOST of us here didn't want). But, we bought them anyway... WHY? Because it was STAR WARS and we thought that may be the only version we were going to get! Isn't that "buying what Lucas throws at us" simply because we wanted a digital version of our beloved movies? It's not really how we wanted them, but we still bought them. I can honestly say, I've owned the SE DVD's since the day they were released, and I have yet to watch them! Still, I wanted these movies in my DVD collection, even though it wasn't the version I wanted.

This board has existed mainly for us fans to stick together and try to preserve the OOT's as they were meant to be. We've waited anxiously for the release of the X0 project (which looks to be a great quality project, but most likely will not match the quality of these upcoming official dvd's). Honestly, I think most of us have gotten used to bit*hing about them not officially releasing these films, and now that they are, we still need something to bit*h about!

Do I think George Lucas is wrong for relasing these in non-anamorphic? Absolutely! Will I buy them? Absolutely! Am I buying them just for the sake of buying them? Absolutely not! The fact is that these will be the BEST way of seeing these films on dvd... PERIOD! It will be better than the dvd's I've made. It will be better than any other "fan made" version. And although I haven't had a chance to view the X0 discs, I'm willing to bet these will look better than that! I still look forward to one day viewing the X0 discs (assuming they finish the project). I think it's amazing what those guys are doing, but the fact is the materials they are using doesn't compare to Luca$' master sources.

Personally, I think GL is an idiot and in all honesty is a talentless hack! If you had asked me my opinion on the man before the SE's and before the prequels, I would've given nothing but praise of the man (after all, I've been a STAR WARS collector and fan for most of my life - I'm 36 years old). However, after seeing the Prequel Trilogy, I can't help but think that GL was just lucky with the original trilogy and doesn't have the talent to recreate the magic. The Prequel Trilogy is garbage... 100% garbage!

To all of those that are saying they won't be buying these when they come out in September, I don't believe it! There may be some that "stick to their guns", but we are all STAR WARS geeks (myself included) and we've all been dying for these to come out. I wish I could never give Luca$ another cent of my money, but the fact is I want these dvd's! If he comes out with an anamorphic release 5 years later, well then I'll be buying another set then!! And so will most of you.....

I bet if you go back through these boards from the time this site was started, you will find most were just begging to get a legitimate copy of the OOT, PERIOD! I'm sure we all weren't saying "I guess I would buy an OOT dvd IF and ONLY if it's Anamorphic, or it has XYZ extras, etc.). No, we didn't care, we just wanted a quality dvd release from Luca$. Well, this may not be what we ideally want, but it is the OOT and I have no doubts that FOX is going to release a set of quality dvd's! As a company, FOX would be stupid to release a set of DVD's that have the same crappy quality as the fan-made sets that are out there! Yes, most fan made versions are "crap" compared to an actual dvd release! Don't get me wrong, I love the sets that have been put out there, and all that have worked on them should truly be acknowleged for their efforts.. .but the fact is that they do not compare to an average dvd release, NOR SHOULD THEY! They are after all, fan made films that came from mediocre sources at best (used LD's and vdeotapes).

I'm sure what I've said may piss some people off (I guess they'll just have something else to bit*h about). That's not what I'm trying to do. I guess I just find it a little ridiculous that so many "fans" are "boycotting" this release, but in reality I think it's all b.s.! You know you will be in line right in front of me the day that these are released in the stores!

ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY OUT 09/2006 BY LUCASFILM
Time
I'm ecstatic that we are getting an official OOT set of dvd's! Of course extras would be nice, but I don't care if it's only the movie and a chapter menu... I'll buy it!! If the sound is 2.0, that's fine by me. I won't complain about it one bit. I'm sure the quality on these discs will be great. I don't see them releasing a set of discs that look no better than a vhs or ld set (there would be so much backlash on them for that).
The one thing that I do hope for is that it is Anamorphic! If not, I'll still buy them. --RickWJ324

Info: A CALL TO ARMS FOR THE X0 PROJECT! (was: A SPARK OF HOPE...)
Time
I for one would like to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone involved with the X0 project and also to those behind the OT.com website! I have been visiting this site for some time now and have worked on my own preservation projects. I've traded with some on this board and also authored some DVD covers for myself and others to use. It has been a fun hobby and as excited as I am to be getting official releases, I also find it a little saddening that a lot of what makes this site so great will be coming to an end!

I will definitely continue browsing OT.com even after the dvd's are released (assuming the site continues). I also hope that we still get to see the final X0 discs released. From what I've seen, these discs look great and I cannot wait to see a final product (assuming that it does get released).

Sincerely,

Shadows of the Empire - a TV show idea?
Time
I too would love to see them do the Thrawn set of books. I remember walking into a bookstore and seeing the 1st Zahn hardcover on the shelf. I was so excited to read a new SW book. Too bad they decided to flood the market with a gazillion other books! I was picking them all up as they came out, but after a while I had to quit. There were just too many!
The same goes for the toys. I was buying every figure/ship/etc as they were coming out, but after a while I had to quit. It ceased being fun! It was just too much trouble, not to mention too expensive. I'm officially done collecting all things SW. I'm just focusing on getting the best possible dvd of the Original Trilogy and then I'm out. Of course I'll watch the tv shows, and I'll see any other movies (if there are others), but the collecting part of this hobby is over for me. I've been slowly getting rid of all of my collectables (I still have a lot to get rid of). It was fun while it lasted, but the money-hungry corporation that is Lucasfilm took away my enjoyment of the hobby.

Zion.. have you checked out the Japanese SC's yet (in particular ANH)? I have the Definitive Collection and just purchased another Definitive Collection that is still sealed. I now have an option of picking up the SC's for a decent price, but I'm not sure if I need these or not. I've read pro's and con's comparing these to the Definitives. If you were to do a direct rip of ANH (no filters, or other processing), which version would overall have a better picture... the DEF Collection or the SC? How about ESB and ROTJ? I'm thinking of just picking up the ANH SC, but if it's worth getting, I'll pick up all three.
