That's exactly why I said I doubt that anyone would be able to pull this off in an effective and seamless manner.  The PT is so convoluted that it would be a massive undertaking both to appropriately alter the story and to physically incorporate Grievous.

That's too much plot development to cram into RotS, plus it doesn't do justice to the relationship between the two characters.  If someone did try to do Maul-Grievous I'd like it to be something that unfolds over the course of the PT.  Something along the lines of: Maul and Kenobi meet in TPM, Grievous is then introduced in AotC hell-bent on getting revenge against Kenobi, and then the rivalry is finally ended in RotS.

You know how most television dramas have an "A" story and a "B" story.  The Grievous/Kenobi rivalry could be the "B" story of the PT while the Anakin Skywalker plot would be the "A" story.

Well, really I'm talking about what could have been.  I felt General Grievous was an extremely underdeveloped and underused character.  My argument is that if he had been built upon the remains of Darth Maul, Lucas would have had much more to draw from when developing the Grievous character.  For instance, it would have given the Kenobi/Grievous rivalry a lot more resonance.  Having been cast aside to command pathetic droids would have contributed to the depth of his anger and, lest I forget, the PT might have actually had the BAMF villain that it was so desperately lacking.

So yes, comparing the current Grievous and Maul, I can certainly understand not being able to see a connection.  But, just think of what Grievous could have been if he were the broken shadow of Darth Maul

That being said, I honestly would not like to see somone try to incorporate this in a PT edit.  It is one thing to fix continuity issues, broken lightsabers and Jar-Jar dialogue, but another thing to tamper with a character's backstory and essence.  I also doubt that anyone would be able to pull this off in an effective and seamless manner.

Maul-Grievous is a damn good idea.  If they had used that as his backstory in RotS it would have added a hell of a lot more depth to his character.  For starters it would give Darth Maul some of a connection to Darth Vader.  Not only would he be a mechanical monster with asthma, but he also would have been cast aside in favor of a more powerful apprentice.

Plus it would have given Lucas a good reason to have him show up in AotC ..... oh how I hate that movie.

I'm going to get lynched by the "green laser" people ... but I actually like this idea.  Primarily because there's a well thought out, artistic reason behind it, and it's not being proposed just because someone doesn't like the original color.  ...However, I'm having trouble picturing them against the lush backdrop of Naboo and not looking bad.

I don't like the idea of all the Jedi having blue lightsabers.  It seems too tyrannical and uninclusive which is not what the Republic is about.

That is purely speculative and is not an arugment that you can adequately back up soley with a tralier that was released "a year before" ESB hit theaters.  Based on such limited evidince there could be an infinite number of possible explanations for why the lasers were green.

I completely agree with taking out everything in the space battle that makes Anakin a hero on accident.  This is exactly what the Phantom Editor did in The Phantom Edit.  I kind of like the auto pilot bit in the hanger though because it is what gets Anakin to the space battle in the first place.  However, if you did get rid of it, it could show of Anakin's rebellious side by implying that he flew into the battle despite Qui-Gon's orders.  Hmm... Why don't we just play that one by ear.

"Make Yoda less hidious as a puppet?"

I know that Lucasfilm plans to replace puppet Yoda with Digital Yoda in future releases of TPM.  Maybe this will have happened by the time Adywan get's to editing the PT.

"No dumb celebration at the end..."

I don't understand your problem with this.  If you cut it out then you would be ignoring the Star Wars tradition of ending to an orchestra, not dialogue.

"If anything edit [the Maul fight] into one continous fight?"

You can't keep tensions that high for such a long time.  I think Adywan will agree.

"At the beginning Yoda no longer feels warmness in his heart for Padme or something ridiculous like that."

I don't understand your problem with this.

"Shorten the arena scene if possible"

I never liked those damn creatures.  They seemed like another excuse for CG and an attempt to upstage the Rancor, which did not work because they looked too childish.

"Droid factory bit, they looked like idiots running around, again I think there is a deleted scene that could be inserted showing a meeting with Dooku."

I've never heard of this deleted scene (I haven't explored the extras on my AotC DVD very thoroughly) but if it does exist, in could be inserted in place of Flying R2 *shudders* (Though I still wonder how he moves around at the bottom of the swamp in ESB)

"Take out the whole speeder chase in the beggining or shorten it way down"

Yes

"[Anakin's] unrealistic fall always made this movie practicly unawtchable."

Aside from Hayden Christensen's terrible acting, the reason that this does not work is because Lucas originally wrote that Anakin truly believed that the Jedi were plotting to take over the Republic.  However, near the end of principal photography, Lucas decided to change it so that Anakin turns to the Dark Side in order to save Padme.  The problem is that the final cut of the film combines footage from both of these versions, and very poorly I might add.

"... maybe just make the super battle droids not talk?"

This comment goes for battle droids in general.  Lucas needs to decide whether or not battle droids are supposed to be a credible menace or comic relief.  We can't keep jumping back and forth between both.
I personally think that battle droids are supposed to be a real, frightening, faceless enemy.  This means no emotion like we've seen in RotS and The Clone Wars animated series.  That does not mean, however, that I think battle droids should not speak at all.  I would like to see their voices return to that "Mac OSX Voice Synthesizer" type of voice that they had in TPM.  Also, I really like the "Roger Roger" catch phrase, it just doesn't need to be said so damn much"

" Take out Lucas kid..."

This scene needs to stay so that Bail Organa has a reason to seek out Yoda and Obi-Wan.

"Make it just Mace that takes on [Palpatine] so we don't have to see the others die so pitifully..."

Perhaps some fancy editing on Adywan's part could make their deaths less pitiful, like how the quick edits in ANH:R made the Obi-Wan vs. Vader duel more intense.

"Take out some of Grievous's coughs..."

Okay, just as long as it's SOME of them and not all.

"Fight some better way to do [Padme's death]... Losing the will to live? ...Maybe Anakin crushed her trachea or something clever like that."

Yes, please.  Thank goodness that the diagnosis was delivered by a droid which can easily be redubbed.

Sorry if this has been covered already, but I don't have time to go back and read all the posts right now.  I think that Adywan has an opportunity here to, instead of omit 3PO, do him justice.  He could do so by using audio samples from the many EU projects that Anthony Daniels has lent his voice to over the years.  This would be similar to how he added Luke's "Biggs!' dialogue in ANH:R using an audio sample from the radio drama.

The same could be done for General Grievous using audio samples from the new The Clone Wars animated series since Matthew Wood does the voice.  One scene that comes to mind, where this could be useful, is the final confrontation between Kenobi and Grievous where Grievous bites the dust without uttering one line of dialogue.

Also, in regards to annoying battle droids, you guys should watch Episode 5 of The Clone Wars.  It's titled Rookies, and shows off some new battle droids that are a bit more menacing than the Trade Federation droids.  I don't know exactly how Adywan might utilize this, I just hope that it sparks some inspirational thought.

I'm a little confused.  Is the "doubleofive Revisited" shot what you expect the final ESB:R to look like, or is the "Revisited" shot Adywan's final version of the scene and you have just altered it to your liking?

Oh, wait.  I just realized that you were asking about ESB:R specifically, and that this quote only pertains to ANH:R, not the whole Revisited saga. My bad.

You most certainly are not.  There is a difference between offering one's opinion in a professional, constructive manner and relentlessly badgering someone until they do things your way.  You, sir, are doing the latter.  This thread does not exist for you to ensure all of your fanboy dreams come true.  It exists so that an artist can get constructive criticism and input about HIS art.  Posting here is a privilege, not a right.  This thread has been offered to us by Adywan so that he can bounce his ideas off of us and get feedback, not for us to tell him if he is right or wrong.

While I have disagreed with some of the things said here - Adywan would be the first to call me out on that - I have never, ever told someone that they were wrong in their opinion.

As far as the arguments you have made go, you need to learn about a little thing called "Artistic License."

If it was not your intention to come off this way then I appologize, but that only means that you need to scrupulously review your posts before making them public.  It is very easy for intentions to be misunderstood in text based communicaton, as any freshman english course will teach you.

PS Sorry, but I don't know what AVCHD stands for.  Would anyone mind helping me out with that one?

It's the final punctuation for the series of dialogue leading up to it.  The rebels have debated up to this point whether or not there is anything more they can currently do for Commander Skywalker and Captain Solo.  They finaly decide that they have to think of what is most important, which means leaving Luke and Han's survival up to themselves.  This is a huge, heartbreaking moment for the characters involved and, just to make sure the audience knows "Yes, we are going to leave Luke and Han all alone" we have the dramatic closing of the blast doors sequence.  It leaves us wondering if there really is any hope for our two heroes and makes the revelation that they did, in fact, survive the night all the more satysfying.
