I'm interested in finding out if it's the real original crawl or an incredible simulation. Could you possibly get a screencap of it past the point the Empire of Dreams documentary cuts away? Thanks.

As I'm not quite sure where Empire of Dreams cuts off (I haven't watched it since I first got the set, so I don't remember), here's screencaps of the whole thing.

I asked the person I got it from, and this is all the information he was able to supply.

I'll do the best I can to describe this DVD-R...this is a digitally edited recreation of the original 1977 theatrical release with the original opening crawl (minus the "Episode IV" tag). It also has an isolated score track, including musical material that did not make the final cut of the film. Also included: the first theatrical trailer from December, 1976, and select artwork from the movie by Ralph McQuarrie (it is also presented as a DVD-ROM feature).

I also supplied him with a link to this board, so he may wind up here at some point. I've given you guys all the info I've got. And, like I said, if anyone wants any specific screenshots, I'll be happy to supply.

@Rik: I'll dupe a copy tonight and send it out tomorrow.

@anyone else who wants a copy: email me and we'll either work out a trade or a B&P. I'd send out a few complimentary copies to some of the regulars but I'm running seriously low on blank media, so that's out of the question for now.

Also, PMs are now on.

I just got this in a trade. The guy I got it from told me the sound was one of the original 1977 soundtracks (which is where nearly all of the differences lay), but Aunt Beru’s voice is the dub that’s still in the current version and the more common “Blast it, Biggs!” is heard rather than “Blast it, Wedge!” I have a VHS of a tecline of an original theatrical print, and both of those audio differences are present there, so I’m not sure if the audio on this DVD is one of the original soundtracks or what. Below are some screenshots.

First, the most important menus:

(I have no idea if this is the Isomix isolated score)

I caught it early for the cap to illustrate the lack of Ep IV/ANH, but the whole crawl looks really ncie

Other screenshots can be supplied by request. I’ve emailed the guy I got this from to get as much info about it as I can. Of course, if anyone here has any info, please speak up.

Rik, I can send you a copy if you’d like to take a look at it. (BTW, you sent my package, right? )

I'm thinking on offering up an audio cd version that I made of the Rebel Mission to Ord Mantell 33 rpm record from the early 80's on myspleen.

Would people be interested in this? If so ill post up myspleen and see if i can get uploader status or maybe Rikter will be willing to upload it if i get him a copy. Let me know if there is interest enough and ill bring it up on myspleen.

I'm game, I'd love to hear that.

1982
1982a- Altered to a politically correct state, but missing the additional scenes and CG of the 2002 edition
2002

I'm fairly certain that there are only the two versions and that the 1982 version on that set is the original version-- complete with guns and the "terrorists" line. Here's a snippet from Amazon's editorial write-up.

Universal pulled a fast one when they placed both the 1982 and 2002 versions of E.T. on this standard DVD release. The result is an excellent two-disc set that contains nearly all of the material on the higher-priced ultimate edition (minus the handsome packaging).

Rev. Beastly: To my knowledge, no edition of the movie except the $80 was released that had guns and terrorists.

Am I wrong in that the 1982 edition featured on this set is the original version, without the 2002 changes?

fantasia was changed?

with e.t. i have the collectors set (didnt pay $80, i get all (most) of my dvds from dvdpricesearch.com ) but if i remember correctly, im pretty sure the fbi agents guns were removed in the 'unaltered' version as well...id have to check to be sure and thats too much work for right now

would you consider a movie altered if the US release of it is cut because certain scenes are deemed inappropriate by stupid conservative groups?

-Darth Simon

The original version of ET was available in the standard 2-disc set that I picked up for $20. I'm fairly sure that the guns and "terrorist" line were restored.

Info: What do you think of Lowry's work for the DVD release of the Indiana Jones Trilogy?

Being a fan of the cheesiness, I enjoy them. The cartoon disc leave a bit in color tone to be desired, but I know this is because of the original source and not some dodgy remastering like the OT set. The movies look a lot better than I expected them to, really. A perfectly presentable presentation for each. An interesting thing to note is the print used of The Ewok Adventure is that it has the "Caravan of Courage" title at the start of the film, which is the only reason I didn't get rid of my old bootleg DVD of it.

The one thing I will complain a bit about, though, is that for some reason, Battle for Endor is on Side A and Ewok Adventure is on Side B. Now, what if there's some kid who has no conception of what's going to happen in these movies? The little girl's entire family gets killed right at the beginning of the second one, while they're all major players throughout the entirety of the first film!

I also agree with what Mr. 47 said, but you know what? I'll gladly keep plopping down money for any Star Wars release that I deem worthy, and I deemed the Droids & Ewoks discs that just came out worthy. In addition to the R2-D2: Beneath the Dome DVD a while ago. So I'll buy anything that's officially put out. But you know what makes up for it? The fact that I'll always have at least twice as many bootleg DVDs of alternate versions, original versions, specials, etc as I do of any official discs. And that's just two times the money that Lucas didn't get.

Okay, this is severely irritating. I shall plead my case. Right now, I'm back at school. The server here does its best to block p2p progs, but actually just makes them more frustrating. I can use BitTorrent... but right now I'm downloading at about 2kbps (on a well seeded torrent). The only reason I'm trying to finish this is because I was able to download the majority of it before I left home. I ordered a bunch of discs from Rikter with some money I got around the holidays, but I'm flat broke again now.

I'm just wondering if there's a kind soul here who would mind doing B&P trades with me for the new SW DVDs being posted on MySpleen, such as the splitscreen ANH and the forthcoming de-SE'd ROTJ. Or, if I have some stuff you don't that I got from Rik, we could just do a straight trade.

A message to Jay in regards to DanielB
Time
I'll pipe up here because I feel it necessary. Like I said in the X0 Project thread, I feel that this is something extremely important to the preservation of non-SE versions of the OT. I don't think we're going to come across too many people who are willing to spend thousands of dollars on the precisely correct kind of technology and materials and it's ri-goddamn-diculous for some arrogant prick, such as DanielB, to chase him off. Though I have found the majority of his posts to be just a slight nuisance, the few that have burned have burned quite badly. MeBe, if you do indeed leave the boards again, I'm definitely going to keep in contact with you about your project. I would donate, but I'm a poor college student who is trying to fund a movie production this summer, so I've got less than nothing to donate to this project.

To restate myself, Laserman: good. MeBeJedi: good. Zion: good. X0 project: good. DanielB: bad.

Please, let us not discard this due to one person. There's a greater good to work for here.

Think of the PT as gold and the OT as Platinum.

Yeah, I thought it was appropriate after thinking about it. They are two seperate trilogies, after all.

Peter, if your mind is already definitely made up, then it's made up and there's nothing I can do about it, especially being someone who's been around this board and general community for such a small amount of time. However, that doesn't mean I haven't done my homework and I do know what's going on around here. You have no idea how excited I was when I heard about the X0 Project. I have the Dr Gonzo & ISOMIX editions of the discs and I'm getting the TR47 edition. Judging by a few random screenshots and technical description alone, I believed that the product of the X0 Project would have yeilded the be-all-end-all best possible results to gather from a less-than-archival source to begin with, and that would have left me very content. I'm one of those people, like I think many on this board are, that would not rest until I was assured that I had the best possible quality of something I felt was as important as the original versions of the Star Wars trilogy and I believed that's what the X0 project was going to be. I'm sorry you feel the way you do and I'm sorry to see the project on your side come to a premature end.

Thanks for your help, I don't know what's wrong with it.

When I was trying to do the same thing, I got speeds about the same. I eventually reasoned that it was because I was trying to download three different big things at once. I started to download one at a time and it worked much better, though I did risk some of the torrents not having seeds when I would eventually get to them (a problem that some nice folks here helped me avoid).
