I've got two different versions of that same disc, and one has the mono mix on it. I believe I mentioned it in one of the discussions.

Is this not the version being distributed?

No, it's not. The version being distributed is the "revised" version (apparently). The mono mix was dumped in favor of the isolated score track. I'd love to see the version with the mono mix, though.

Wow, you know, you're probably right. I just saw that part of Return of the King a few weeks ago and, remembering it, I could swear that it was "blade". Interesting how the mind workd that way. Oh well, I've been proven wrong.

Another Q for you audio experts - Stereo vs. Dolby Surround

Now, if I recall, there was a DVD without chapter stops, but that was at the specific request of the director. I think it was a David Lynch film.

You are correct. Lynch DVDs without chapter selection include The Straight Story, Mulholland Dr and Eraserhead. It's his belief that a film should be taken in one sitting because it was not written to be segmented or to be set aside and come back to, like a book.

I also have a Telecine of AOTC theatrical. It is the non-digital edit. And 3po still says 'die jedi dogs' on this as well. So where this 'Scum' line comes from I don't know.

I definitely remember hearing the "scum" line in the theater because my ears perks up in amused disbelief. I was peeved that it wasn't on the DVD because the sequence was not nearly as amusing to me as it was before. Maybe there were a couple different prints floating around.

THE BIRDS! Think of all the coooooool things that they coulda done to the birds with CG!

Oh, wait, I forgot I wasn't George Lucas. Nevermind, The Birds with CG is a terrible idea

Usenet tutorial?
Time
Really good, really easy to follow. Problem is, my skool is retarded and doesn't have a usenet. They had one a few years ago, but apparently no one used it so they took it down. ROAR. I use the free news.individual.net service to read my normal newsgroups, but they don't offer binary newsgroups, for obvious reasons, I suppose. I'll contact my brother back at home, maybe I can still use our home ISP usenet info for this. Kinda ironic that the person who proposed this to begin with (me) can't really make use of this at the moment, eh?

Info: Special Edition - the 'Making Of' Specials
Time
Now that you mention it, since I'm sure the ones on the 1997 VHS set have something unique about them as well, I should just tape my set and encode it. If I can do that myself, I'll tack those on as supplements, but as it stands now, it's just the TV specials. But if my memory serves me correctly, I remember a lot of redundancy between what I had and what was on the official set later.

I really appreciate that. I always feel kinda awkward putting myself into a new community/message board. All you guys here have made me feel right at home and I'm just glad I'm able to contribute something to the wonderful projects taking place here.

I taped these myself in SP mode in 1997 to VHS. I sent the tape to a guy I know with broadcast-quality equipment (that usually runs about $7000 when bought new) that he uses for restoring tapes to their best possible picture quality, given the source. Apparently, his machine can even pull an image from a tape that wouldn't even play back in comsumer decks.

Yes, I know, pretty OT right here, but this is where all the DVD discussion happens. I’ll have a DVD pretty soon of three “making of” specials for the SE from 1997. One is an hour long and from Fox special, “The Magic & The Mystery” I believe it is called. Another is the half-hour Sci Fi channel one and the last is a half-hour MTV look. Would anyone be interested in having this?

My guess is that Lucas has them...but they are being suppressed.

FAN: How long have you had these Special Editions?

McCALLUM: About three or four seasons.

LUCAS: They're for sale if you want them.

FAN: Let me see the original trilogy.

LUCAS: You don't need to see the original trilogy.

FAN: We don't need to see the original trilogy.

LUCAS: These aren't the movies you're looking for.

FAN: These are not the movies we're looking for.

LUCAS: You can give me more business.

FAN: We can give you more business.

LUCAS: (to McCALLUM) Move along.

FAN: Move along. Move along.

In a perfect world:

FAN: You don't want to make a third version of your movies.

LUCAS: I don't want to make a third version of my movies.

FAN: You want to go home and rethink my life.

Yes, the song itself was, but not the film version. It was a processed pop-radio version kinda thing. And man... that would rule if they released the English-language version. But if the master tapes dont exist for the actual film version anymore, there's about 0% chance that that version does either.

Look real close and you'll see that they're still not completely opaque, which always bugged me. I watched 3 or 4 "making of" specials for the SE in 1997, and have three on tape that I've seen more than once. In one segment, they're talking about those shots in particular and they showed the before/after thing and I was always like "...but I can still see the AT-AT!"
