Star Wars: Classic Edition by Ocpmovie (Released)
Time
Here's my thoughts on this disc, which I've already relayed to Garrett.

Barring inherent compression artifats (MPEG2 -> AVI -> MPEG2 for single-layer DVD = no getting around artifacts), this is really the best recreation of the original theatrical edition of first film that's out there, I feel. The laserdisc footage is extremely well integrated into the DVD footage and painted out ronto? What painted out ronto! It was excellent. But perhaps the best part about this disc is how seamlessly the mono soundtrack elements are put back into the soundtrack. They all sound totally clean! I guess that's what you get when you're only using a part of a low-quality soundtrack rather than the whole thing at once. Not only all that, but the commentary track is amazing. I love hearing Tony Daniels speak, and he certainly has his fair share of time on this track. Just all around awesomeness.

Supremely excellent work, here. Reccomended to all, at least until there's a dual-layer version (hint to Garrett: do that when that stuff becomes affordable)... or until the Legacy edition leaks in a decade. Hey, I can hope, can't I?

I wonder is anyone has thought of editing all the Evil Dead movies into one long movie?

I've got a copy of Braindead on DVD, looking real nice, too. I've also thought about editing the ED movies together, but I never do. I just watch them all against each other, skipping the redundant parts in between. Pretty much the same thing.

Then I'll probably go the B&P route with the dual-layer disc that I want. I'm a big proponent of the Pay It Forward system, it's something I've used a few times in the past (and largely attributes to my MST3K collection). I'd help with this, but unfortunately I have other disc copying operations that need to be tended to first.

This is what I was talking about. That seems pretty solid to me. You might be right about cutting it up, but possibly not.

You could try the alt.video.tape-trading newsgroup, but I don't know how much luck you'll find. If you find the Frighteners stuff, though, let me know, I'd be very interested in it.

P.S. I read a while ago that Song of the South was being prepped for a DVD release soon.

Yes, indeed you need a torrent client to download torrents. Here's some of them:
BitTornado
Azureus
BitSpirit
BitTorrent (client)
ABC
I personally prefer BitSpirit amongst the above, and I would most definatelly recomend it.

After you've downloaded and installed a bitTorent client, all you have to do is find the tracker (web site) that offers the stuff you are intersted in (for SW stuff, www.myspleen.net is an excelent tracker), and sign in that tracker. The reason you are requested to sign in, is bacause each tracker keeps track of your upload/download activity, and gives special privileges to uploaders, as to avoid leeching, which is the main problem on peer to peer file sharing.

If you have found the tracker and the torrent you are intrested in, then you are prompted to download a small .torrent file. This file contains all the information needed for downloading the torrent. If you run this file, your installed BitTorrent client will start, and so will your download.
Hope this was helpfull, happy downloading

I really do encourage you, though, to browse around that board and familiarize yourself with the several different versions out there of the OT and pick the one you think is best. Personally, I prefer the EditDroid collection, which you'll learn about once you get on over there.

Look around in the Original Trilogy Preservation section of this board and you'll be able to get DVD transfers of this laserdisc set for next to nothing, or better yet, nothing at all. You'll find a nice guy named Rikter who will be able to help you out if you can't do the Bit Torrent downloads. And in many cases, these DVD transfers look significantly better than their laserdisc source.

Off-Topic: DVD image galleries
Time
Sorry for asking this here, but I know that the people who might know how to do this are all on this part of the board.

Can anyone tell me how to make an image gallery on a DVD? Not, like, a montage thing that's actually a video file, but a navigable image gallery such that you would find for storyboard or production stills galleries on retail DVDs. If there's a specific program I need, I can probably get it, but if anyone could steer me in the right direction, that would be great.
