Avian flu is overblown media bullshit, much along the lines of SARS and monkeypox, like Nanner said. It does indeed go back to the fact that it's a slow news month. On Nov 25 ("Black Friday"), there were three straight hours of news coverage of eager shoppers on CNN. Three hours on nothing but shopping. And this wasn't in the crazy early morning, either, this was from 9am-12pm. One doesn't really need any more proof than that to call it a slow news month.

I think that even if the 2004/2007 editions were packaged like that, I would snap it up in a second. That looks damn fine. Do you, perhaps, have hi-res versions of those you could post?

$185 was already spent, initially, on the laserdisc set. The people whose money was spent on it donated it under the impression that this project is what it would be used for and that they would recoup at least some of their expenses after re-selling the set on eBay. I'll be contacting them soon to figure out what they would like to do.

I would like to keep it too, but that wasn't the original deal when people donated money to get the set and get the DVD set made from it. I don't really think other people want to use their money for me personally to have a laserdisc set that I can't even play.

I'm really keen to get this disc now that I have bought the green box set thing. I still want to copy the original issue for the MST3k-esque subtitle track, but I think a 3rd slimline case would fit into this thing, I could stick the scrapbook thing elsewhere.

The timecoded workprint of ROTS that was leaked is no different than the theatrical version, and only different from the current DVD version with respect to one transition.

Look for the DarthGates remix of the HanSolo77 DVD of the original series for what you're looking for. Rik has it and it might still have a seed or two on MySpleen.

I don't have the SVCD of the workprint, but I have it on DVD-R. I got it from a guy who's a pretty fair authority on Spinal Tap and I think he would have mentioned if there was anything any different out there. The only annoying thing is the audio is out of sync for some reason, I've been meaning to fix that.

Also, I don't have a real copy of the Criterion DVD. I have the commentary as an MP3 and a DivX file of the original short. Both are mighty entertaining, though.

It was. I have it. I actually completely forgot that I had it. I'll try to find my tape and check it against those differences listed there, I don't think I ever actually watched it. It definitely had timecode, though.

An LCD projector does not show overscan areas that wouldn't be seen on a TV. At least, this is my experience, it might vary by projector.

Overall, I think that Encore is just a bloated program. It's 2.3GB for installation, compared to DVD-lab's 23MB, and I really don't see any major advantages it has over DVD-lab (aside from user-friendliness).

Put it in an actual DVD player, that line is definitely in the overscan reigon and wasn't really meant to be seen.
