Is nothing sacred? The Krayt dragon change (re the 2004 OT SE DVD release)
Time
Damn this to hell! This sounds like some cheesy synthesizer sound. The old one was a much more realistic monster sound. Hey, maybe he´s done this so it´s absolutely positive that scene won´t scare the "young ones". You see Lucas has kids now and he has to protect them and make things nice and safe!! Oh and he also has to make sure to tell all important storyevents at least twice,... again for the "young ones". (Sarcasm!!!)

Well I ordered mine from TR47 himself (he posts on here regulary and you can contact him directly). Another one I know who has been selling OT SW sets is Rikter, who also posts on here. You can send them PM´s and see what they have to offer. Go to their profiles and you can see the info there.

As far as I know the sets don´t come in cases with artwork. It´s a do-it-yourself kinda thing and I like that. You do the package according to your own taste.

What about the commentaries?

- That is a certain sacrifice in order to have a better audio and video quality, since we haven´t started to see dual layer transfers yet. Until that happens I´m fine with omitting the commentaries (which I haven´t heard great things about) in order to have a better a/v experience for my OT.

Obviously I haven´t checked them out myself but from what I´ve read on here and the info I´ve gotten from TR47 there are no sync problems and no missing scenes. The only thing I´ve heard about the TR47 discs is a 3-4 second black pause just before the leia welding scene on ESB (which btw is missing on some other releases). That has something to doo with the original laserdisc "disc-change" if I´m not mistaken. Otherwise those transfers seem to be the best ones out there, really sharp with good colours and I´ve heard really good things about the uncompressed audio.

I´m not an impulsive kind of guy so I´ve read and studied all I can before I parted with my "hard earned". I only want the best available.

According to your "wishlist" I would recommend TR47´s "7 DVD Ultimate Set". It has the movies on three discs (in 2.35:1 widescreen letterbox format and the original uncompressed PCM sound from the laserdisc), a fourth supplemental extras disc which contains the bonus features from the "Definitive Edition" laserdisc and last but not least there are three extra discs focusing on each of the movies. There you have the original good old documentaries, "The Making Of Star Wars", "SP-FX: The Making Of Empire Strikes Back", "Classic Creatures: The Making Of Return Of The Jedi" and "From Star Wars To Jedi: The Making Of A Saga" as well as tons of other exiting stuff inc. deleted scenes, auditions, interviews, trailers and more.

I´ve got one ordered (hopefully arriving any day now) and I can´t wait. It looks the businezz...

Good things to say about the PT!!
Time
Ofcourse the PT has some good points...

I like the Obi-Anakin-Dooku-Yoda saber duels in AOTC, especially the Yoda kick-ass bizznizz! Also like when Anakin slaughters the Tusken peepz, although there´s far too little of it too be seen. The Obi-QuiGon-Maul duel in TPM also rocks, the way Darth Maul fights is uber cool. I also really dug the fight between Obi and Jango in the pouring rain, always get a great kick out of watching that on my 32" with my soundsystem at it´s loudest! Padme is ofcourse really sexy in AOTC (as opposed to boring as hell in TPM), wearing those skimpy outfits and all, here´s hoping they let her be even more sexy in ROTS! And ofcourse the much anticipated "clone wars" are pretty exiting and powerful to watch. Plus the speeder chase in AOTC is really well done and one of the coolest CGI shit I´ve yet seen, the shots of Corusant at night with heavy traffic is great. These are just a few of the things I really like. Although the PT movies can´t really compete with the originals on the whole, there´s a lot of good stuff here from Mr. Lucas and co coming close to matching that good old Star Wars magic. Wish they could have made the ratio of good stuff higher. For me it´s about 50% (bad) versus 30% (ok) versus 20% (good).

Han vs Greedo
Time
I can´t for the life of me understand the "logic" behind those changes. It´s a clear cut case of "kill or be killed" stuff. Greedo is pointing a gun at Solo point blank and there´s not way in hell he would miss that shot, absolutely NO WAY! Han was just defending himself there in this crazy and brutal world of bounty killers and smugglers and he managed to cover his own ass and simply took Greedo out before he green thingy did the opposite! He beat him to it! And we all know that the last thing Greedo says before the shooting, is that he had been waiting for this for a long time, to finally kill Han Solo!, so I guess he just missed out by a mere seconds. How Lucas can not see this is beyond me. HE HAS TOTALLY LOST THE PLOT THIS OLD GEEZER!

Star Wars DVD Covers
Time
I don´t like the way the Definitive logo goes totally over the face of Luke on both A New Hope and Return Of The Jedi. That´s just bad design. And you´re right there Oojason, the back covers are not so great. There is MUCH better work out there folks than this. Good example is Mackey256´s assembly work.

They have totally lost it now! (OT 2004 DVD)
Time

Now if this don´t top all silly things!

This is absolutely mindbendingly stupid from the folks at Lucasfilm. This following text is actually from the Star Wars Shop which I guess is a part of the official Lucasfilm operation. Here we can see sales-text for the upcoming DVD editions and they ain´t beating around the bush here, they just about spoil EVERY big story element/surprise of the OT. Are they expecting ONLY people who´ve already seen the OT and the PT to buy this or what, don´t they expect new audiences to (rightly) begin their Star Wars experience by watching the OT since that keeps the most surprising story elements intact?? This is so incredibly stupid! This just goes to show that Mr.Lucas has TOTALLY lost the plot, made a mess of the whole storyarc and wants everybody to watch the films in the utterly boring numerical order and thus containing absolutely no surprises and interesting plot twists! You have to be told everything at least twice and shown everything right away. Oh how the mighty have fallen!

This is it:

"This four disc DVD features new commentary by George Lucas and cast and crew members, including director Irvin Kershner, actress Carrie Fisher, sound designer Ben Burtt and Industrial Light & Magic’s Dennis Muren. Disc 1, Episode IV A New Hope: Eighteen years later, Luke Skywalker, a young farmboy on Tatooine, is thrust into the struggle of the Rebel Alliance when he meets Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has lived for years in seclusion on the desert planet. Obi-Wan begins Luke’s Jedi training as Luke joins him on a daring mission to rescue the beautiful Rebel leader Princess Leia from the clutches of the evil Empire. Although Obi-Wan sacrifices himself in a lightsaber duel with Darth Vader, his former apprentice, Luke proves that the Force is with him by destroying the Empire’s dreaded Death Star."

“Disc 2, Episode V The Empire Strikes Back: Three years later Imperial forces continue to pursue the Rebels. After the Rebellion’s defeat on the ice planet Hoth, Luke journeys to the planet Dagobah to train with Jedi Master Yoda, who has lived in hiding since the fall of the Republic. In an attempt to convert Luke to the dark side, Darth Vader lures young Skywalker into a trap in the Cloud City of Bespin. In the midst of a fierce lightsaber duel with the Sith Lord, Luke faces the startling revelation that the evil Vader is in fact his father, Anakin Skywalker.

“Disc 3, Episode VI Return of the Jedi: In the epic conclusion of the saga, the Empire prepares to crush the Rebellion with a more powerful Death Star while the Rebel fleet mounts a massive attack on the space station. Luke Skywalker confronts his father Darth Vader in a final climactic duel before the evil Emperor. In the last second, Vader makes a momentous choice: he destroys the Emperor and saves his son. The Empire is finally defeated, the Sith are destroyed, and Anakin Skywalker is thus redeemed. At long last, freedom is restored to the galaxy.

Can u believe this shit?

Guilty Pleasures (DVD)

Here´s a little trivia from imdb.com on the Short Circuit movie!

"This film was originally conceived as a dark high-tech thriller. Number 5 was originally intended to be the villain of the picture: a heavily-armed military robot that had escaped from the lab that had developed him. After several script revisions, the darker elements were toned down and the film became a high-tech comedy."

- LoL Interesting turn of events there I would say. Instead of a high-tech thriller we get a high-tech cornball comedy!

Yeah, how exactly is the school system over there in the USA?

First you have elementary right? 6-11
Then you have high school? 12-17
Then you have college? 18-22
Then you have university? 22-??

Am I right or wrong here? I might have messed it all up actually!

- Here in Iceland we have it like this:

First is elementary school: 5-11
Then we have what you call "high school": 12-15
Then we have what I think you call "college": 16-20
And finally we have what I believe you call "university": 20-??

Yoda's Secret Identity
Time
You see, back then we didn´t have a little thing called the "internet" to spoil things like this. As I remember this was more or less kept a secret and neither me nor any of my friends knew about this before seeing the movie. Also I knew nothing at all about Vader´s revelation to Luke and that goes to show you that things were kept under wraps pretty tightly as long as they could by Lucasfilm. But then again I saw ESB on the very first day so I don´t know how things became when the movie had been shown for a few weeks. Then I guess those secrets had leaked out (Homer Simpson style!) pretty much.

Geez, that´s one bad movie bro! Wasn´t the "legendary" Fisher Stevens in those moves, two of them if I remember correctly? I remember seeing those movies as a kid and liking them. Haven´t seen them again since then but imagine they have "dated" pretty much! Haven´t seen them on DVD anywhere here in Iceland though.

My guilty pleasure is definitely the movie "Krull". I know it´s not absolutely "bad", cause it has it´s charm. I saw this as a kid and thought it was somewhat comparable to the Star Wars movies. Similar storyline (hero, princess, dark badguy etc) and plus it had laserblasts and spaceships! What more could a young boy want from his movies? Anyway I have Krull in my DVD collection and pop it in the player more times than one might expect, I´m a total sucker for this movie.

Lucas: Madman or Genius?
Time
Couldn´t agree more with Ricarleite´s comments there. Lucas has lost his touch without doubt IMO. Once he was a rebel, willing to do creative & risky stuff that was not always politically correct or children friendly. He also had more interesting storytelling ideas, now he has to tell us everything at least twice just so the really young ones get it and there is hardly anything left for the imagination! Plus he is relying to much on CG. Hardly anything get built anymore, nothing has a human touch to it it´s all mindless and unpersonal blue/green screen computer stuff, what a shame! Back then when the old trilogy came out EVERYONE was interested in those moves too, children took their parents along and vice versa, people were so into this, people of all ages. He´s messing with a trilogy of FAR greater quality than his PT (which can only be made right with a SPECTACULAR Episode III). He´s actually adjusting his old brilliant movies which everyone knows and loves to fit better with the new ones when he should be respecting his OT and doing it vice versa, this absolutely puzzles me. Lucas is far more respected and accknowledged as a filmmaker for this original trilogy than he ever is for the PT. He must come to his senses and release the OT on DVD, it´s a part of history that MUST be preserved!

Somebody should remind Lucas of the old saying: "Don´t judge a book by it´s cover". No matter how glossy the cover is, the colours rich and how fine the paper is, it can´t hide what´s inside!

Cut back to Han who is just barley a few meters away, smiles, and dashes off.

Unintentionally hilarious.

- Yeah, that has always bugged the bejesus out of me. Han and the rest of the crew running a "few metres" away from the sheild generator and everything´s just dandy. No hellfire or nothing. Surely they would have been fried like a pork on a stick being where the were. It a HUGE explosion! But... what the hey!

As for bad dialogue I´ve always thought Obi-Wan´s mumbling line at the deathstar control room (where the gang first arrives) is very silly. He mumbles: "Good-plug-in-he-should-be-able-to-interpert-the-entire-imperial-network." Now why did he have to say it so darn fast, it sounds just like some mumbo jumbo!

OT bootleg DVD reviews
Time
The scene was missing from the first release of the ´93 Definitive Edition Laserdisc, which was then deleted. They re-issued it later with the restored footage. Seems that the Anamorphic set was made from that first release and the TR47 set from the re-issue because his set most defo has that Leia scene.

- Now somebody out there is hopefully working on a new anamorphic set sourced from the right LD version. Leia welding is just to darn sexy to be missed!
