Sin City: The Movie
Time
The thing is I realized while watching it that even Lynch didn't know or care where it was going, or at least thats what it felt like. Originally MD was a TV pilot and only the last 30 minutes was shot to make it a movie (where allt he lesbian nudity comes into play) so I will say this, had it been a TV show and had had years to develop out the weird mystery to the point we reach at the end of the movie, it might of worked a lot better.

I agree. I'm glad someone is on my side with MD. Its a terrible piece of pretentious dribbe. Amnd since all my friends are film geeks I have to constantly hear what a masterpiece it is. Naomi Watts was the only good thing about it (I wasn't much for the other girl)

The whole film just bugged me in every concievable way.

IMHO all three lotr films changed stuff, but with FOTR everything was stuff I wanted to be changed when Ir ead the book and made the movie better. I hated the changes in TTT, PJ said it was the hardest to adapt but I find it puzzling because of the three it was the one that felt the most cinematic when i read it and my opinion was they could basically just stick to the letter on that one. ROTK was more like FOTR where the book it self needed some improvements, I thought the movie was great but some changes did bug me, mostly I could just tell what would be added into the EE.

How does Grand Moff Tarkin fit into Ep 3?
Time
Yeah it was awesome. She's great in Beautiful girls as well. She's by no means a bad actress, anymore then SLJ is a bad actor. They just suck in SW for some reason. With portman I can kind of understand because she never even saw the OT before she took the part and has a best moderate interest in working on these films. But SLJ is a huge SW fan so I just don't get it, of course it doesn't help that Mace and Padme are probably the two worst written characters in the PT, there's really no place for them to go with the material, Padme is completely inconsistent in her motives and behavior from scene to scene, and Mace is about as one dimensional as they come, from what i can tell his two basic functions are to give Yoda someone to talk to, and to be the most important Jedi to die.

No I wasn't expecting any romance between them at all (its not in the comics). I don't mind that they decided to add it in, but I just didn't buy it. Maybe its because I didn't really find Selma Blair all that convincing/compelling, I dunno. I jsut didn't feel the romance worked, or was that important but the film sort of dwelled on it (though a lot of good humour came out of the situation, especally Hellboy with the kid)

I can't really explain why the film didn't wow me, it just felt a bit slow and uneven, thats the best way I can put it. I will definitely revisit it on dvd for a second chance though.

regarding NP being difficult, I forget which films it was. I know there was an extra on the set of Ep2 who said she was kind of a primadonna. I don't know if any of it is true, I'd say its likely that if it is it has a lot to do with GLs directing (or lack there of). NP was great in cold mountain, I've only seen her in SW for so long that I forgot she could act.

Well I saw Hellboy last night. It was pretty so-so. Not bad, but not really that good either. Perlman was great. The makeup was great, but the movie moved really slowly for a movie that was not too long it sure felt it.

I dunno, the guys I was with liked it, but most of them were unfamiliar with the comic. I didn't really buy into the HB + Liz romance, and I thought they did a bit too much with the pestilence dog monsters, it felt a bit redundant.

Quite a bit. I think he actually has more screentime then Padme who has basically been sidelined and barely appears (compared to her usual lead role). From what I understand she has a few political scenes in the first half, but is essentially a walking womb. There are a lot of rumours that NP and GL fought so much on Ep3 (I've heard she's hard to work with on other films) that GL was this close to firing her and hiring Keira Knightly, but KK was unavailable.

Episode 3 is set 3 years after episode 2, which makes it approximately 19 yrs before ANH. If for arguments sake Tarkin is say 65 in ANH then hes going to be mid to late forties in Ep3. I was under the impression that he was going to be called "Captain Tarkin". If i recall all the casting rumours the dude thats gonig to play the young(er) tarkin is merely referred to as a Young Captain on the starwars.com cast list.

You're thinking of Rohan Nichols. He might be playing Tarkin but I think that has more or less been debunked. Its also rumoured that he might be playing Captain Antilles because the Tantiv4 is featured prominently in Ep3. But he MIGHT be Tarkin.

Info: OT Bootleg DVDs
Time
I have a question to those of you who have DVD burners, how much footage can you put on a single disc. I was told that current burners don't do dual layer and hence can only hold about 90min of movie. However I saw DVD-Rs at a store yesterday that claim to hold 120min. Either way neither seems adequate to hold an entire SW film so are these bootlegs you guys have on two seperate discs for each movie?

true about the age, I don't disagree with that. And also something that should be remembered is that Tarkin knew, or knew of Obi-wan kenobi.

Rebel Scumb how do you know what will happen in Ep3?

A lot of stuff has leaked out. Some of it has been on TF.n and other sites. Other info just gets passed around amongst a smaller inner circle of SW fans on the web. A lot of that stuff comes my way, but the Tarkin thing has been in a lot of spoiler reports on the reputable SW fansites (if such a thing exists)

He may appear earlier in the movie perhaps as a commander during the space battle, but as far as I know he is with Vader and palpatine on the bridge in the final scene and that is it. Some pics leaked onto the web months ago of makeup tests for Tarkin. (I can't post them) and I believe its the current popular opinion (I believe it anyways) that the austrailian actor who plays Scorpius on Farscape is playing Tarkin.

Like anything in a SW film its subject to change, but at this point i believe we will see Tarkin in the final scene.

George Lucas halts Indy IV production due to disagreements with the script
Time
I always thought that his girlfriend would get to apply her legal expertese to help save him at the end, that was a missed oppurtunity.

as for the sentimental quotient, I agree with the darabont script there was probably heaps of it. A darabont movie set in the 50s, how could it not. And then Spielberg and Lucas said that there would be tons of jokes to make fun of how old Harrison Ford is. I think the whole movie would just be in jokes and winks at the camera, and I also think Spielberg and Lucas have both lost their touch so there's little likely hood IMHo that this could be pulled off with any pleasing results.

Do kids today even care about IJ? It seems like he's dropped off the pop culture radar.

I agree they never really did it for me. But then my mom's a lesbian so maybe thats why.

If I remember correctly this parole officer character is in both the original story and THAT YELLOW BASTARD. She has a brrief cameo in TYB as Hartigan's parole officer, but she is also Marv's parole officer in the orignal story and gets captured with him by Rourke and has her hand eatten by him. I've got the trades stacked up across the room I should go double check.

yeah it wasn't IJ, but it was pretty good. A neat way to look at history.

Can you elaborate your theory DAYV?

I figure it will be like temple of doom in that it won't have nazis, but kate capshaw, sean connery, marrion ravenwood, and Sala are all suppose to appear in it.

Its going to ultra sentimental IMHO, which will be part of why its not likely to be good.

she's definitely hot, I always had a thing for velma over Daphne when I was a kid.

I haven't seen the new harry potter trailer, part of me wants to avoid it so I can be a bit surprized when the movie comes out (since I've alreayd read the book).

My brother said he read somewhere that JKR is plowing through book6 so hopefullly it won't take too long to come out.

EVERYTHING HARRY POTTER

I was engaged for the last two of my five years of college (no I didn't fail, I took two courses: mutlimedia then film) I got married about a month after i finished. Single life did indeed suck, but then I only had one substancial relationship before my wife so I suppose if I was more of a player I might disagree. (But that sort of lifestyle never really appealed to me anyway).

Ironically now that I'm married hot woman keep throwing themselves at me, it weird and kind of pathetic really. Some people critize me for getting married young, but my wife is amazing, she's beautiful, smart, funny and looks great in a pair of tight jeans (youzaa!). Most importantly though, I trust her, and I feel like she really gets me (which is no small task) and puts up with all my craziness.
