I can't quite figure out how someone can have "no" interest in the SEs. The movies are, what, 95% the same damn thing? Surely the bits that were changed weren't the only parts you enjoyed?
I'll try and explain.
Imagine a really great meal. Loads of different ingredients wonderfully combined by a great cook. It tastes great.
Now, imagine the same meal, but this time the cook has added too much salt.
Yeah, the meal is 99% the same, and all the parts that I liked are still there, but the change has made the meal inferior to the one I had last time.
And I would have no interest in having that inferior meal again.
This just states it all so beautifully and in no uncertain terms.
JenX is a smart lady, but I would amend her anology to say this: its like having a great meal put in front of you, all your favorite foods perfectly prepared, with a teaspoon of poop on the side.
No matter how good the meal was, would you eat it if there was poop on your plate?

Wow what a great idea for a movie, you have to blink at a certain point in order to miss a cringe inducing moment that wasn't part of the movie for the first 20 years of its existence. If you blink a lot during Battelfield earth I hear its much better, and Gigli is a great film if you're blind folded with your fingers in your ears.

3 confirmed changes
1. The Emperor hologram has been replaced by with the correct actor to match with Return of the Jedi
2. The digital Jabba has been replaced with a much better digital Jabba.
3. The lightsaber effects have been corrected.
I can't see how anyone can complain about any of these changes. All three of them should have been made in 1997.
Confirmed by who? Please post the url where these confirmations are. I am not doubting you! Just wanna see it.
I can personally confirm that the ESB emperor is now Ian McDiarmid, and that Anakin's ghost in the final scene of ROTJ will be Hayden Christensen.

My apologies if I gave out something people consider to be spoilers.
Regardless, I'm still waiting for examples of Han Solo having fight scenes.

Say Yes!!! Please!!!
"Master Anny? Wassa you doing with thisa light saber? Meesa..." *sound effects: whoooosh... thud...*
I wouldn't hold your breath on that. GL says JJB will definitely not die. And Chrispher Lee was only on set for Ep3 for one week so his screen time will likely be the same or less then he had in AOTC. I wouldn't expect much more then a big duel.

We don't know that at all. Not to mention Grand Moff Tarkin was a major ANH bad guy and we learn NOTHING about him. Seems like your have a slight double standard on this, in my opinion.
Tarkin is completely different because he was so straightforward. He was an evil imperial officer, thats all we needed to know:
Dooku is:
-a former Jedi master who left the order (why we don't know)
-He became a Count (of what we are not told, how or why are also a mystery)
-He is really a sith working for sidious (since when we are not sure, and whether he knows Sidious is Palpatine remains a mystery)
-He was qui-gon's master, but for some reason had never met Obi-wan (which makes zero sense given that they all live in the jedi temple)
-He was Yoda's padawan, but this is only mentioned in the eleventh hour of AOTC and nothing really comes of it
-He's older then Sidious (well at least CL is older then IM, which sort of seems out of place with the whole master/apprentice thing)
And he's introduced in the last third of AOTC where he fails to really make a decisive impression, with his...
#########SPOILER##############
...death in the first 25min of Ep3...
############END spoiler##############
it seems unlikely we will learn anything more about him.
I have no problem with Dooku not being in the SW series for very long, but he should not have had such a complicated offscreen origin if that was the case.

I think the decision was that, because he was a Sith apprentice, he could still wield one. However, Grievous is a robot (android, whatever), so how do you justify that one. He's not a living being or anything like that. I dunno. I so 'fused.
well IMHo anyone who can weild a sword can weild a saber. Its a piece of technology, and follows the same logic as a sword.
Afterall Han used a saber in ESB
The jedi can use them better then an average person because of their knowledge of the force they have great instincts and can anticipate their opponents moves.
Quote
Wielding a lightsaber is similar to wielding a sword. (The difference is in the balance of the weapon. The Lightsaber's blade has no weight to it).
Interestingly enough, Mark Hamill said in a recent webchat that he and Bob Anderson always wanted to do crazy saber twirls and one handed style fighting in the OT (similar to what we see in the PT duels) but that the word from Lucas was always "its heavy, its like excalibur, you can't swing it around like that it takes a lot of effort because of the weight". But this logic seems to have been abandon in the PT.

Curiosity question that may have already been answered at some point or another... is Grievous officially considered Sith or is he just another random baddie thrown in the PT mix?
As far as I know he's just a normal baddie, and alien cyborg who is a master strategist and adept at using sabers, but has no force powers. It could turn out that he does, but I have not heard anything to make me think he does.

If Grevious had a jet pack he could float and hold all four lightsabers.
First of all jimbo try to keep your swearing under control, you've been warned before.
Secondly, this is a General Grievous thread. Grievous is himself a spoiler so it seems unlikely that we can talk about him without this stuff coming up, anymore then having a thread about darth maul in 1998 could really avoid talking about his double sided saber.
I'm not going out of my way to spill stuff, I didn't mention how or by whom GG dies. But someone brought up the four sabers and so I was just clarifying their question.

Sure he didn't have a fight scene, but who cares, Han never had a fight scene doesn't make him less of a character. SW is quickly being reduced to an intergalactic WWF

No his arms split in two so he actually has four arms, each of which can weild a saber. Whether he uses his feet to hold one in the movie has not been mentioned, so I guess technically he could use five at once.
But he does use four sabers when he fights Obi-wan on Utapau, you can see how the arms are designed to split in this picture:

here's a rendering of GG's vehicle if anyone cares:

The main problem with Dooku is that he had such a complicated set up that was handled all offscreen and then there is no real pay off to it.
What could of worked well while maintaining the basic structure of the prequels is to have Obi-wan be the one who wants to train Anakin and Qui-gon the pessimist. Then when Obi-wan is hanging on the thing in the reactor shaft Quigon emerges and takes out Maul. Qui-gon is badly wounded but will recover (got love sci-fi medcare) but as a result he has seen the power of the darkside and is dienfranchised with the republic.
then in Ep2 it would be really powerful to have Qui-gon be the one leading the seperatist.
Just a random idea

I've been looking into props and costumes a lot lately as I am slowly leaning towards undertaking a massive fanfilm endeavor. But it won't be happening any time soon, I still need:
the money
the equipment (though I'll have that by the end of the summer)
a small studio with lots of blue screen
dozens if not hundreds of props and costumes
a bunch of computers with 3d software and the knowhow to use them
so nobody hold your breath but like I said I'm leaning that way.

My personal theory is that they created grievous because Vader has very little (one or two scenes) of screentime. I know the marketing team is itching to use Vader's image on everything and Lucas is weary because he doesn't want people going in expecting "vader the movie" and walking out feeling ripped off. This way they can use GG to market the movie, he's basically the gimic this time around.
The other thing is a lot of fans want to see a new improved CGI super prototype Vader doing back flips and weilding multiple sabers and taking out Jedi's left right and center, but GL is wisely going the more restrained route and sticking to the classic look and with no action for dark lord. I think this is a very good thing, but a lot of fans are pissed about it.
Basically with GG he gets to satisfy both camps. He can keep Vader classy, but give the fanboys their superbadassjedikillercyborg.

As for the emperor I don't think he is the main villian, Vader is IMHO.
The main villian is not determined by where they rank in the badguy infostructure, its how important they are dramatically and who has the most personal and powerful conflict with the main protagonist.
Infact often in action films its actually the second in command badguy who proves to be the true nemesis of the hero. This was often done in Bond films and other action pics.
