My dear junior forum member, I will forgive you this unfair comment towards me (which I find greatly disturbing), because you don't know how can I feel after writing many eloquent posts in Bush Jr/9-11/Iraq related threads... Most of replies made by Bush supporters could be shortly summed up as "You're plain wrong, Dubya is the best, he has great strategery". That's it, no detailed descriptions and analysis of current gov. policies, no extrapolations on what may happen in the future given that US will follow the present way.... just plain old stubbornness and blind faith in The Leader. (although I admit the main culprit was jimbo and not Darth Chaltab)
I - on the other hand - can sometimes understand Republicans & Bush supporters and even agree with them "from a certain point of view" on particular issues. What I observed, is that they are less likely do a similar thing: to think for a moment, what would it be to be in Democrats' shoes.

This is why I wrote this exaggerated post, because I was too tired to pick up the glove and start yet another, pointless debate - pointless, because the other side won't change its mind. Period. After all, this is what we call them conservatives, right?

Darth Chaltab, motti said that in defense of the Lone Star State, because your words could be understand in many ways... like "he makes silly mistakes because he's from Texas" or (stronger version) "he's stupid because he's from Texas" and not what you meant "he talks this way because people from Texas often do that".

The problem with Dubya is not the occasional misspeaking or peculiar accent. It's just that some of his sentences can be understand in completely different way as he [presumably] intended, and this is due to his flip flops. Take the recent (and already famous) quote "...and neither do we." You should know what I'm talking about
Sure, everybody does mistakes. But Dubya seems to make too much of them and some of us can't see the benefits that would offset them.

Besides, being a head of an international superpower (or any other country) requires some sort of dignity. So what that your uneducated yet hard working butcher or dustman is honest - would they fit into the President's shoes?

Dammit, we Poles once had a professor as the President before the WW2, a darned rector of a university... Talking about the style & class, heh...

Yeah, that's true, Kerry looses in terms of "cult of the person" thingie, as neo-cons/reps simply love&adore their leader. There are few anti-Bush or even pro-Kerry people on this forum. Have you ever hear them praise Kerry so much, to such extent as you do? Admit it Darth Chaltab, you even said once that Bush is more handsome than Kerry! LOL I'll bet there will be a long line of butt-kissers standing outside White House if the Bush wins.

This sounds almost like paranoia from the days of Cold War, when communist regime leaders had to be loved and whoever stated something else from what gov. said, was considered as enemy - just as now when opposing Bush Jr is called unpatriotic by his supporters and the officials. This whole debate taking place on this (and other forums) is pathetic, no matter how many facts and arguments anti-Bushists present to Bushist, the latter will always repeat the same song: "It's all Clinton's fault. Kerry is a jackass. Our Texan President is a Great Leader sent to us from Heaven. Let's nuke France". A flock of sheep.
There are (now-funny) names that were given to Stalin or Caucescu or Castro... they were to show the endless love and admiration people felt towards them. I can show you some links, you can just swap the names and use them in relation to your fav celeb - Dubya.

Bear in mind that in my country I consider myself as right-winger, so don't you dare to call me "pinko commie" for being agains Dubya, my fellow pro-Bush forum members.

It's always the political activists who stirr the trouble - usually young, angry and naive.

Bush and Nuclear Proliferation
Time
As far as I like "Fallout" RPG games, I wouldn't want to live in post-nuclear world...

I know that total disarmament is a utopian vision, we will never live in perfect world - people don't change, there were, are and will be wars. However NBC weapons scare the sh*t out of me, mainly due to their immense powers, area coverage and secondary, long lasting effects (that are difficult to counter). Bayonet kills one man, machine gun burst kills a squad, HE bomb eliminates a platoon, but new-q-lar warhead not only wipes out whole city, but also leaves fallout, which radiates survivors (if there are any) and stays active for several years... Not to mention adding to the greenhouse effect. Forget the EMP wave which will fry your PC. Toxic gas or lethal virus can also get out of hand... So as much as the conventional weapons are lethal and scary, they're the "lesser evil".

That's why I'll always advocate reducing new-q-lar potential worldwide. Especially now, when the MAD theory is no longer clear: during the Cold War there were US and USSR, both ready and able contestants to the title "biggest bad a55 on earth, bar none". Their new-q-lar potentials nullified each other (ok, I'm aware of the differences in quantity and quality, but enough to say both had enough for MAD work), which could indeed be the only reason why World War III didn't broke out in the last 50 years (too bad that US did nothing to stop the spread of communism after WW2, thus eliminating the threat - they had major air/land forces in Europe, huge production and A-bomb; I always laugh when I hear the Cold War bulls**t about how good Uncle Sam opposed the bad Batiushka Ivan by trying to protect Korea, Vietnam or Middle East from communist's influence, I guess giving half of the Europe to reds in 1945 was "a small thing", not worth of US attention). But now there is no more USSR, this doesn't mean that Russians are completely harmless - they will stubbornly protect their sphere of influence (Chechenia anyone?) and cold-blooded Putin (ex-KGB colonel) is much more dangerous than chubby Yeltsin - but with the collapse of economy and the Eastern Block, they are no longer in position to want directly oppose US in a military conflict (besides, they now face the elusive threat US does). So for the time being, there is no second boxer in the MAD ring, there is no ballance and this is why US new-q-lar arms race becomes dangerous. In the future I'd bet on China to be the other major player (North Korea may be dangerous as hell, but they're not up to US size - different "weight category").

So what should US do? Since we agreed they can't drop all their weapons like some bunch of hippies Well, as it was already said in this thread, building an anti-nuke shield (which used to bear a cool name of "Star Wars program") is an option. This will undoubtedly give them an edge over their enemies ("we can hit you, you can't hit us - suckers!"). This can be also considered as a "pacifist's way of arms race" as other countries would pursue the same thing (as penetrating enemy territory would be tricky, mass sabotage is even less likely, virus has limited means to reach Army computers etc.). Also, a more conventional approach to arms race would be more preferable, especially now, when the enemy cannot be so easily found (and we can't use area-effect weapons like nukes). So this means better, stealthier planes/AA missiles; tiny, unmanned aircraft capable of doing recon, but also delivering weapons on the heads of unsuspecting enemy, etc. - yer usual wonder-weapon toys. Also, as armies become more and more reliant on electronics, new ways of crippling their comms (like offing a comsat from the orbit) and jamming the black boxes would be more readily available to tech-savvy US, rather than to China or even Russia (given the amount of rubels they now spend on military research - space junk like Burans can be bought for scrap price and this was once a heavily guarded secret).

I'd also like to see more stress on special forces. Sending grunts to a conflict, where it's difficult to recognise combatants from civilians always ends up bad, while special forces excell in countering guerillas/terrorists/whaddayoucallit. The "Land Warrior" program is a good example of modern soldier. Even WW2 had shown, that if we know where the enemy is hiding, if we can react quickly, if we can paralyze their chain of command, then even a strong opponent will fall on its knees. Gulf War 1 is another proof - things like ground attack planes working together with J-STARs, seeing Iraqi tanks on the palms of their hands... so what that Saddam had plenty of equipment?
Being one-two tech generations ahead of the opponent really makes a difference in battle, even if they're stronger in numbers.

It is alarming that Bush's administration (because he's just a puppet) is still thinking in 1950s way... Nukes, global domination (hi Mr. Wolfowitz), enemy on every corner ("screw the Constitution, we've got War on Terrorism out here!"). Soon you'll be back into the paranoia when every American family will be building their own bunker. The rest of the world will be already in their bunkers, trembling with fear.

"All too easy..."
D.V.

***

Once upon a time there was a body builder (no, this joke has nothing to do with governor of CA) who liked to have natural & deep skin tan - no tanning beds, no creams etc., only sunbathing. His major problem was that his Mr.Happy was still very pale... so he went to a wild beach, hoping there won't be any trespassers, laid down on the sand and covered himself with it, leaving only Mr.Sausage outside. The time passed, hot sand made him fall asleep.
It happened that two elderly ladies were taking a walk on the beach. They spotted a "mushroom" sticking out of the sand and came closer to inspect it. When standing next to "it", one of them touched it with her cane and said, with sadness in her voice:
- Look, Bertha. When I was 20, I was very curious of it. When I was 30, I liked it a lot. When I was 40, I even asked for it. When I was 50, I started to pay for it... When I was 60, I was praying to get it... When I turned 70, I forgot about it.
And now, when I'm over 80, those things grow wild everywhere, but my poor, old, aching bones won't let me squat...

LACK OF HUMANITY IN PREQUELS TAKE 2

Funny, I thought about something else:
Another aspect (not mentioned here before) of the de-humanized Prequels is the kid-parent relationship.

Please, compare OT and PT:

Old Trilogy
My dad was a hero, I want to be just like him.
Gosh, my dad turned out to be a bad guy, but I still love him and want to save him somehow.
Dad, you are asking for trouble, but still, I don't want to kick your butt. Just leave my sister out of this.

Prequels
Goodbye mom, you can still be a slave, but I'm gonna be bad a55 Jedi mofo.
I should not miss my mom, Jedi should be free of emotions.
I promised to set my mom free, but I'm kinda busy playing the role of kewl Jedi mofo now.

Ohh, guys, c'mon - isn't it obvious for you that Clinton was among the audience on that day and he did a loud "sss" sound after Mr. President said properly "Internet"? It was a ....err... sab-oh-tage. It ain't no bullsh*t, right Chaltab?

Darth Chaltab: No. I was watching the show thoroughly (few times, as I taped it on VHS) and it's clear to me that this walking-stick Kerry farted and this made the hiSSSing sound. Low play, that's what I say.
And RRS, you're siding with Kerry only because his grandpa was a Polish Jew.

C'mon guys, this whole discussion with jimbo is pointless. He's just as stubborn as Osama's goat.

He's still young and naive. In his dreams he wants to become somebody like his alter-ego (Al Bundy) with an option to work as Dubya's bodyguard (I'll bet he'd take a bullet aimed for "W" without a blink). His personality was shaped by both his parents an the neighbourhood he grew up and by FOX NEWS.

There is no way we could change his views at this point of his life. Some people - especially young people - need to stick to few "stable" things in life, some sort of axioms that found the basis of their thinking. Proving they're wrong would destroy these "foundations", it would destroy their present image of the world and literally shake their psyche.
Think of a stalwart religious person - or about a fanatic, if that's easier to imagine - if we'd be able to prove that their god does not exist, it would destroy all their beliefs, policies, philosophy etc. Short trip to suicide, paranoia or total stagnation in their life - take your pick.

Therefore jimbo is not defending Bush Jr, he's defending his world, the world he closed himself inside.

I forgot to mention another flip flop Kerry made: he wants to improve our relationship with Euro countries. Why the hell we care about their oppenion? (sp?) Our commander and chief is going to nuke France and that's why I respect him - its a great stratigery. He knows his job.
Now excuse me, I'm going to nudie bar.

Over and over again goes back the old argument about "Saddam, the Hitler Reloaded" and "Evil Iraqi Empire"... which is the result of media campaign heavily promoted by the current US gov. There are no doubts that Saddie was a naughty boy and God save us all from such people. He even has moustache like Hitler and Stalin! The totalitarian Iraq was an aggressive state and it did posess threat to its neighbours. True. But the difference between 2003 Iraq and 1939 III Reich is war potential.

Iraqi nuclear programme was practically snuffed with a swift'n'spectacular attack of the IAF pilots, who dropped their iron bombs with almost laser precision (kudos to them, all because their grandpas trained on RWD-8 ) into Saddie's nuke reactor. Some time later Uncle Sam, who formerly was selling weapons to naughty Iraqis (including chemical/biological ones), made a successful counterattack, arm in arm with the Coalition forces, against Iraqi forces which invaded Kuwait. So after 1991 Iraq was licking its wounds after loosing most of its potential. The 2003 Iraq was far less dangerous to its neighbours than was III Reich in 1939 to the states bordering with it. The Weapons of Mass Destruction (gosh, I just love the way Americans forge new three-letter acronyms: WMD, MAD, DVD, HBO, WTF? ), even assuming they were there at that time, could not reach US shores in any way - they had no ICBMs, SSBN, strategic bombers etc. Dirty bomb? Suitcase nuke? Anyone can use it - Libyan extremist, ex-Soviet mad general, you-name-it. So the Iraq was only dangerous for the oil reserves found in Middle East - a drastic increase in price could wreak US economy. And the war was to prevent it. So the war was indeed defending America - defending America's business. So let's name things they really are and stop using those "cool names" like Operation Iraqi Freedom etc. They're here just to fool the masses.

Yet the US gov. seems to not notice far greater threats. Iraqi army could be easily offed by conventional forces of its neighbours. As far as tanks are involved we call the thing "local conflict". It doesn't mean it's not important - people are dying there! - but it has only limited effect on the global stability (unless it's about... oil ). The greater effect could have the Indian-Pakistani feud - they DO have WMDs, albeit of tactical range, but we don't want to see them lobbed, right? Even greater threat to the world posess the North Korea. Let's just imagine what happens if Chinese dragon wakes up for war, provoked by Korean nukes and destabilization of the region ... we could all be FUBAR... USians, you'd better start to assemble those Raptors or you be outnumbered 3:1... and even AIM-9X can't hit 3 aircraft at once.

About Bush Jr himself... he's just a puppet in the hands of his staff. Just listen to him, he doesn't really have anything to say, except for repeating the lines they give him. Maybe that's why he makes so many bloopers? Jimbo may laugh from Clinton, but apart from the "cigar case" were there books listing democratic president's mistakes during the official speeches? We, Poles, used to laugh from our ex-president, who was a simple worker, because he sometimes sounded silly with his enigmatic responses. But when we compare him with Bush Jr, we see that Lech Walesa was merely an "eccentric" in his speech, while Dubya is "plain old-fashioned stupid". And so damn stubborn. I'll bet he repeats to himself a mantra "all those who oppose me are heathens and enemies of the state, as I'm the one God has chosen".

Choosing between Kerry and Bush Jr is like choosing between diarrhea and cancer. No-one likes to have the first, but the latter is far worse.

Master Sifo-Dyas, Warbler - I'm glad you still remember me, guys
*receives the military parade with his forum buddies at his side*

EDIT: jimbo, even after reading your list I still retain my sympathy for Clinton, because I could use a good blowjob, too

If your answer is "yes", then buy your own space shuttle now!

LOL, world is a weird place, Soviets kept everything secret and now Russians are selling everything at the lowest price - and plenty of this stuff ends up in USofA. 30 years ago you'd be taken to "looney town" for just saying this is gonna happen eventually.
