More Clone Wars Cartoons directly before Ep3
Time
It's good to always have Master Sifo-Dyas on the watch

I'll bet they're going to make another series (cartoon? live action?) after EIII to "fill the void" between sagas.

I just "love" the way LFL plays with us:
"No more [insert SW-license product name here], ever. No. Nie. Nein. Niet. Get it?"
...and after some time...
"OK, so you'll get some more [insert SW-license product name here] from us, but that's it. Don't ask again."
...and after some time...

Catwoman
Time
Selina: "Oh darn..."

This trailer made me think of the last two Bat-flicks, which is not good... I'm afraid that even Halle won't "save" the movie... too bad, she's a very good candidate for Catwoman: kittenish facial features and... well, you get the picture

Is it just me or is there something wrong with the newest catsuit? When I saw it for the first time I thought she's Minnie the Mousewoman (those ears! eeek!). Halle's body shape was better presented in X-Men, even though the suit revealed less skin... go figure...

One more thing: Miss Kitty fought with a woman on that clip. Catwoman'92 seemed to be the "avenger of all abused women", humiliating those pesky men (oh, please, RRS needs some spanking, too ), while Catwoman'04 is going to be.... ? well? that's a good question...

and this movie was supposed to be "berry, berry good".

Troy
Time
I have recently become very lazy when it comes to go to the cinema, so I have yet to see the flick.

But after seeing all this promotional material, I'd like to know: what do you think of Diane Kruger, guys? Is that your vision of Helen of Troy?
And don't get started with her "acting performance" evaluation - supermodels are not being hired for their acting capabilities
So let us, primitive males , speak their... mind (even if women claim we use sth else for thinking )

My opinion: she's OK, but nothing special... I guess the only reason why she was picked is that Wolfgang Petersen is also German I wouldn't send 1000 ships after her.

And what critics say:

LISA KENNEDY, Denver Post:
"Kruger is fetching enough. But it is hard to believe Helen is the most beautiful woman in the world. The blondest woman in Troy, perhaps."

KAREN KARBO, The Oregonian:
"Helen was one of the most beautiful, charismatic women in history; Kruger's pretty in the manner of dozens of young women you might see at the mall on a Saturday afternoon"

ERIC HARRISON, Houston Chronicle
"Hers is the legendary 'face that launched 1,000 ships,' but except for her having blond hair it's hard to understand the fuss -- Achilles' tent mates are just as cute."

MICHAEL SRAGOW, The Baltimore Sun
"[Orlando] Bloom is actually prettier than Kruger..."

TOM RYAN, The Age (Australia)
"Kruger is awful as the woman who launched a lot of CGI."

STEPHANIE ZACHAREK, Salon.com
"At this point you may be wondering, does 'Troy' at least give us a believable Helen -- a woman whose face might, conceivably, have launched 1,000 ships? The answer is, unfortunately, no. With her sun-kissed, bland sweetness, Kruger is pretty enough in a Darien, Connecticut, kind of way -- not exactly Helen of Troy, but maybe Helen of Abercrombie & Fitch. (Think of her as the face that launched 1,000 golf carts.)"

GLENN WHIPP, L.A. Daily News:
"The thin-lipped blond Kruger looks more like Helen of Hunt than a woman whose face would launch a thousand ships."

STEPHEN HUNTER, Washington Post:
"Is this the face that launched a thousand ships? Opinions will vary, of course, but I'd rate hers as a 457-ship face."

TY BURR, Boston Globe:
"There is indeed a legendary beauty in "Troy" -- a face that brings the ancient world to its knees, a being whose grace is such that grown men feel stupid and ashamed in its presence. I speak, of course, of Brad Pitt. ...

"Kruger as Helen? She's lovely enough -- a face to launch, I don't know, 274 ships -- although I kept forgetting she wasn't Robin Wright Penn."

HANNAH MCGILL, The Herald (UK):
"Kruger's bland, pinched-looking Helen can barely launch an audible sentence let alone a thousand ships."

DAVID EDELSTEIN, Slate.com:
"In truth, this Helen has a face that would launch maybe a hundred ships -- although if you throw in that lithe body and a favorable wind, you could bump the number up to 250."

RUSSELL BAILLIE, The New Zealand Herald:
"You can't but help think the ship-to-face ratio of German model Diane Kruger as Helen is more in the high two-figure than four-figure range."

RICK GROEN, Globe & Mail (Canada):
"As launching pads go, I'd put her down for 10 or 12 at most."

MICK LASALLE, San Francisco Chronicle:
"The Helen of Troy we get here, as played by Diane Kruger, looks more like Helen of Troy, N.Y. -- a pretty girl who could easily launch a paddle boat, maybe, or a couple of canoes, but that's about all."

BRUCE NEWMAN, San Jose Mercury News:
"It's puzzling that they were willing to spend $200 million to make this movie, but wouldn't pony up for an actress with a face actually worthy of launching a thousand ships. Kruger looks less like one of history's great beauties than the third cheerleader from the left at a basketball game."

EDIT:
I've also added my candidate for Helen of Troy in the Beautiful Women thread.

The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture. "Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, ’There’s Jennifer, she’s a lawyer,’ or ’That’s Michael, He’s a doctor.’ A small voice at the back of the room rang out, "And there’s our teacher, She’s dead by now..."

RRS, remember my mall SW story from a while back with Boba Fett?

Do you have a non-Star Wars vibro-blade weapon on your mind?

Yup, I remember the "moving figure" story.

@ricarleite:
No, it had nothing to do with the mall, there was just yet another local fan convention in a nearby pub... but this armor just screams for a photo session

During the evening hours, somewhere in the Bronx, a lone German tourist was mugged by five thugs. Seeing their baseball bats and brass knuckles ready to strike, the poor man started to scream:

An American business advisor was invited to give speech for a big Japanese company in its HQ. He prepared himself for the oratory, confident in his skills that never failed him. But when he was actually performing the speech, he noted to his disappointment that Japanese audience paid little to none attention to his well pointed jokes and wide vocabulary. If fact they were bored - plain and simple. He finished and sat among the Japanese member of the company board, depressed by his cold reception. The next - Japanese - speaker immediately caught the audience's attention and after few short bursts of laughter his oration received loud applause. The American did the same and started clapping his hands, thinking "Hey, this guy must be really good - he deserves it". But suddenly Japanese chairman grabbed his hand saying:
- You can't do that, Artman-san!
- Why? This man must be an excellent speaker...?
- No! He's just translating your speech...

"catastrophe" movies
Time
After I saw the latest trailers of "The Day after Tomorrow", I've started to wonder about the whole genre of "catastrophe" (or what-d'ya-call-it) movies ("Titanic", "Towering Inferno", "Indepedence Day" to name the few). It puzzled me that these are usually made in Hollywood - do we make those in Europe, too? And don't start with "budget issue": here, during the commie period, movie makers could get a whole infantry division of Russian extras, on call

Why is that USians are willing to pay their hard earned bucks to see New York being destroyed by hundred-feet tall waves? Can you still watch falling skyscrappers after 9/11 massacre? I can't.

Or is it a hidden form of masochism? Obliterating several US cities (plus Paris, as a bonus ) for the sheer thrill... "The Day after Tomorrow" gives me creeps, coz I live in a coastal city... when such wave comes, I'm FUBAR...

any flight simulator fans here?
Time
Some of you may already know that yer ole RRS-1980 is an aviation and flightsim buff. So I'm opening a thread dedicated to planes&games, hoping that some of you might join it for a little "chit-chat" in a cockpit.

Today I'd like to introduce you to my project: 9/39.

For over a year I was a member of the "IL-2 Sturmovik" flight simulator community, a game released in 2002 that rocked the sim genre. So far we had Western Europe - Pacific - Western Europe - Pacific... (ad infinitum) as the theatre of operations in our WW2 sims - albeit the Bf 109s and Corsairs are cool, this was getting a little bit boring. Suddenly a Russian developer appeared from nowhere with their Eastern Front sim. And the quality of that product surpassed the Microsoft CFS series.

No wonder I have jumped out of my pants when I saw Polish PZL P.11c fighter coming with a first major patch to the game. Seeing all those gauges in cockpit in my mother tongue for the first time was a very exciting experience - it was a huge novelty to me, familiar only with cockpits of Messerschmitts, Spitfires, Zeros, Widcats etc.. Sure, there were custom made Polish planes for CFS series or EAW before (I've never flown them), but they could not match the quality of this model, not to mention the superior engine of the game. And despite the fact that the plane was a bit misplaced (P.11 on the Eastern Front were found only in Romanian hands on the Axis side), I had a blast flying it
So I've started "lobbying" for the creation of other aircraft designs, which were the first to oppose the incoming Blitzkrieg. There were few models "in-progress", so I kept helping the modelers. Unfortunately, work for free = no $$$ = no time = no planes

But thanks to the support of my fellow flightsim fan, Janusz, who also runs software company, I have yet another chance for the "September 1939" project. Oleg Maddox, creator of the "Sturmovik" series plans to start a news batch of flightsims - with completely new engine etc. - with "Battle of Britain" opening the series. I have been working with him for some time (I have added some content to Sturmovik series, too) and we are going to make an add-on for the BoB featuring the beginning of Blitzkrieg in Europe:

www.9-1939.pl

Just in case you've wondered: RRS-1980 = Rola

We're just starting, but so does Maddox with his BoB. So far they haven't completed a single plane model for their basic game, but you may feel the taste of things to come with this cool screenshot of their work-in-progress model of Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3 fighter:

Not bad, eh?

Phew, and I thought I'm alone in my way of thinking... what a relief...

To be able to imagine, what anti-American groups may think we need to go back to the early days of the Cold War. Communists always pictured (yes, propaganda posters included) Americans as power-hungry money-barons, dressed up as "uncle Sam", smoking cigars and counting their wealth - something close to Scrooge character. I'll bet the religious leaders in the Arabic countries use their shady ways of interpreting Koran to convince their people, that the reason for their poverty and misery is the insatiable American millionaire, who lives in shiny skyscrapper... those poor people blindly follow them and accept the holy war - Jihad - as their way of life. They fear not death, for the one who dies in the holy war gets -what? 49?- virgins to attend him in the afterlife

I will always say that Christian Heaven is not advertised enough - yo, men in black, go hire some ad agency!
