It means you simply need to go to myspleen.com and login to the forum, so the tracker recognises you are a member and logged in etc.

Once done open up/resume the torrent.

Insuring the OT's Survival for the Future - READ

ALthough I never got into the game of LD, I have done extensive study of the media as of late.

In regards to SW DC, a failry big shipment of the DC set was released with 7 seconds missing. The manufacturers recognised it, and offered for all dodgy copies to be sent back, and they would in turn receive a corrected copy.

Well of course there are those collectors who see this as a limited bunch and figure "bugger this, I'm keeping it, it'll worth something in 50 years".

Problem is the anamorphic set was made from that, and we lost the footage.

To be honest an Anamorphic set will never look as good as a set done in the same fashion as TR47s as the LDs were not anamorphic originally, and as they have to captured, and cannot be digitally "ripped" converting them to anamorphic clearly does lose a lot of clarity and sharpness ort he overall image.

But what can ya do?

I posted the TR47 Episode IV - A New Hope up yesterday as a torrent!

Rikter,

I am forever in your debt.

At first I looked at the TR47 of Star Wars on my PC and thought sound ain't much different from Anamorphic, and the picture sucks, more dust and scratches, more video fragments, also slight an-aliasing issues.

Then I burnt it and watch it on my big flat screen TV with Dolby Pro logic outputing it in 5.1 and I have to say WHOAAAA! FANTASTIC!

Seems on TV and home theatre equipment it rules. Colors are better, and way, way sharper image than Anamorphic. Plus I think the fact it isn't anamorphic is why the images are so much sharper, as the fact both sets had no choice but to be captured via analogue, the whole 16:9 process of the Anamorphic set makes the affects of the analogue rip stand out more, and consequently look blurry in comparison to TR47s.

So with the news that Empire will be up this weekend is awesome!!!!!!

One small little thing, if the ROTJ could be up the following weekend it would be sweet. I'm not being greedy or anything or impatient but I have till the end of the month before the ISP I work for shuts down our office, and I have had to get all the torrents here, as my damn cable provider only gives me 2.5 GB a month downloads. Don't ask it's a long story, and ADSL availabilty in Australia STILL sucks, leaving some of us to be stuck with awful Cable plans, network is good though.

When I do get the torrents here, I'm continually seeding at 500 KB/sec

One last thing, was the TR47 set captures from the 95 "Faces" LaserDisc set, I can't remember. lol

To all the aussies out there, if the TV and DVD player your using doesn't automatically adjust for NTSC playback, then they're both out of date, you've gotten saome bad luck from the manufacturer.

I'm not knocking anyone here, but thank god Australia has gone ultra compatible in the last fews years, where even the cheapest and smallest TVs are coming out with NTSC capabilities.

The Original Trilogy - Laser Disc Conversion Thread

This Threepio line has always bothered based on the fact, that many non-hardcore fans such as ourselves, LOL, believe it was thrown in there in 1997 for the SE.

Now obviously the 89 LD had it, but strangely enough the first TV version I saw of SW as kid b4 that, did not have that line, and was identical to 93 Definitive release LDs.

Now I missed out seeing star wars in '77 as I wasn't born for a couple of years later. lol

Can anyone confirm whether this line is considered apart of the "original" release of the movie?

I captured it from the Definitive Collection LD's I have and it only amounts to around 47 megs even with the overlap that I left to make it easier to edit back in. The big problem is that the second VOB is going to have to be converted back to an AVI file and the footage edited back in. Also, there are two audio tracks to worry about. Fortunately, there is no commentary during that part. Is it a lot of trouble to upload a torrent? If not, I would upload it as an AVI, since it is better to edit AVI's together instead of MPEG's.

That would be awesome dude, if you uploaded the missing footage in AVI. Although based on my video editing knowledge, if were were to uncompress the relevant VOB file, add-in the missing footage, then re-export it as an AVI, and then re-encode as a VOB, wouldn't that cause that entire VOB to be "more comnpressed" and hence less video quality thatn before. I may be wrong so that's why I am asking.

I don't suppose you could create a tutorial for the entire process. I'm pretty good at video editing, but I've never done anything as far as encoding to burn as a DVD-Video, or encoding Dolby Digital sound tracks.

I'm currently sharing what I've got of all 4 torrents as much as I can, and yet it seems only a few are seeding the entire movies, and maybe even only two people are seeding the supplement material. For the last 3 hours I've gotten 17 MB of the supplement torrent at 1 KB/sec.

Meanwhile I've uploaded 1.3 GIG of "A New Hope" and only downloaded 200 MBs of it.

Come on guys, those that have it all, keep seeding it.

Cheers,

I'd suggest there would still be quite a bit of difference between the original LaserDiscs and such a DVD, as from what I have read here, all these LaserDisc renditions have to be done by capturing the video footage, as LD players were never designed in such a way to interface them with computers...well at least for the home user, perhaps there's some old abandoned equipment out there from the early 90s that could do this.

Anyway with that said, when you capture footage, whether it is from LD or DVD, it can never truly be that close to the original regardless of specs and process you use, as you are recreating the image itself frame by frame with the equipment and software you're using, where as a "rip" as people do with DVD discs etc, takes the digital information and converts it to whatever format your encoding to. The only next best thing is having the original master film. LOL

Hope I haven't been too confusing here, it's just I've been into digital video/audio editing and authoring since '99, and have mostly been involved with wrestling media sites, which these days are nearly extinct, but in their hay day, many sites and forums I belonged to and worked for had many conversions about this sought of stuff, and I was always on the side for quality, as I am/were a huge quality freak when it comes to digital audio and video.

Hey guys, my first post here.

I'm currently getting the torrent versions, which from what I can tell are the "Anamorphic" set everyone here talks about.

I was just wondering for those who have downloaded this same set, is the 7 secs of Leia welding included in this rip, or were the "faulty" LaserDiscs used for this rip, where the footage is missing.

Much appreciated.

I have the "anamorphic" set and yes the Leia welding footage is indeed missing.

Ah crap. I had a bad feeling that might be the answer.

Oh well, can't be too picky I spose.

Thanks for that.
