ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY OUT 09/2006 BY LUCASFILM

Dammit...I KNEW I saw that there. See folks...revisionism already.

Yeah, these X0 files are staying put.

Further to my previous rant, September is still FAR AWAY! Until we get copies of what Lucas is feeding us, and we can confirm he has given us what we have wanted, let's go on as per usual doing what we do.

OK OK OK.... (calms himself down)

I'm not going to go into an emotional rollercoaster, but I will say this.
I am skeptical about this, because I can almost sense that although this is what we wanted, it will not be how we wanted it.

Furthermore, I do not like that comment about "state-of-the-art of 1993". If this comment has any truth to it, this is stating clearly they are not going back to any original film stock, and that they will return to some archived master they made in 93 for the then LD and VHS releases. If this is the case that is lazy and poor.

And I say it for this reason:
Lucasfilm & Fox should be treating this like any other lot of popular 70s and 80s movies clean-DVD release (in the sense some effort goes into presenting it well). Get the best original material you can for both video and audio, and clean it up. Just clean, do not alter. Touching up frame-by-frame a really bad dust scratch or mark is cleaning up. Changing colour tones so a faded black becomes a true black, and so that someone's face doesn't look orange is cleaning. This is what is done on all good restorations.

But based on what info we have so far, they're not even going to do that. I mean on one hand they advertise this, like a slap in the face for anyone who has used the term 'Han Shoots First', by putting it on a T-Shirt, but then saying that they're releasing the OOT as a 'bonus feature' of single release 2004-Edittion discs is a joke. No doubt a smug move by Lucasfilm brass.

Lastly, if anyone wants to know what I'm trying to mean when i say "clean it up", just get the first releases of the "Dollars Trilogy" that MGM released on DVD, then get the Special Editions that were released as a SONY/MGM release not all that long ago. Awesome clean-up job.
And for those pedantic people, I know that the newer "Good, Bad, & the Ugly" release contains never before seen in the USA footage, BUT it is included because it is as close to the original premiere and original CUT that Sergio Leone had made, and that was only seen in Italy, before the UnitedArtists butchered it for US audiences i.e the Original version of that film finally on DVD.

OK....I've ranted enough.

The Moth3r PAL DVD Set Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
Got ROTJ the other day. Thanks to Moth3r for all his hard work, and to Metallaxis for uploading it.

I need confirmtion on whether my copy is corrupted or not. At around 1hr 37min 34secs Lando is talking to Ackbar about how the Death Star is operational. Around the bit where Ackbar says "...cruisers can't..." my audio clicks and seems to skip a few milliseconds of audio, however I can't really see any jump in the video.

Does anyone else experience this, or is my copy screwed, and I need to re-get it?

Star Wars DVD Covers

Let me know what you think. I was trying to go for a very traditional and simple look. I plan on uploading these on Grisan's cover site soon, once I'm positive they need no changes (say if a sharp-eyed forum member spots some faults).

Does anyone know if these were uploaded anywhere?

I went to Grisan's website but can't find them, and really, really want them, as I think they're spectacular.

If someone could torrent Moth3r's TESB DVD to MySpleen I would be forever greatful.

As someone who lives in a PAL standard nation, I gotta say thus far in regards to video detail clarity, Moth3r's SW rip has beaten any of the NTSC rips I have, and I've got most of them, so I'd love to see the TESB rip. Not to say the NTSC ones are not good, coz they great too, but just stating Moth3r's PAL version is so far the best for those with PAL TV's!!!!

I work for one the world's largest software companies and leaders in computer security, and my job is virus detection, removal and prevention. I won't mention which company though as you'll all want free software lol But they are involved with F1 Racing :hint hint:

Basically as far as I am concerned Win2000/XP/2003 etc are much more secure operating systems, provided the user has applied all the latest MS patches, password protected their Administrator account (i.e. don't leave this account with a blank password) and have ensured they have no open shares.

Win9x machines are vulnerable to nearly all Win32 platform viruses, but of course like what I assume JED was referring to, there are some specifically targetted at n00b users of the WinNT platform, who have not secured their PC. Some examples are the Blaster, Sasser, Rbot, Agobot etc.

My two cents on an off-topic, but a VERY important topic for all PC users.

Info: STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY SOUNDTRACKS
Time

Hey all,

Don’t know if anyone needs them for their preservation project, but today I managed to purchase a brand new and sealed Star Wars Anthology 4 CD SET as seen below.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000002VI7/104-4880735-3166364?v=glance

It’s been in my local Dick Smith Powerhouse store, sort of like a RadioShack but they also sell TVs, DVDs, CDs, etc.

Ever since the store opened, and who knows where they dug it up from as it was made in 1993, I wanted to get it a while back but I was strapped for cash, and since then I had completely forgotten about it. After seeing it again today, I bought it for $AUS 64.00

I recall a while back some guys needed music that hasn’t been released since this set for some resotration work they were doing for their alternate audio tracks, etc, and had mentioned the music was on this set.

If anyone sees anything they need and can’t find the track off the Net, PM me your email address and I’m sure I can organise some rips for you.

Regards,

P.S. May the Original Trilogy be with us!

Thought on de-SE'ing the DVD

I think that to DE SE properly, we have to use the 97 SE version of ANH as our base file. I reason this because lowry so screwed the colour balance. not their fault, they did a lot in a month but there are obviously a lot of issues. in fact, I would go so far as to say that about the only thing worth saving from the SE DVD release is the 5.1 AC3 sound which we are still going to have to seperate into 6 mono wav's and diddle to correc the space battle sound mix and edit properly for the omissions we are going to take out, like the jabba scene and mos eisley entrance.

still use the SE DVD for things like the final space battle becaues the space shots are better corrected, but even then, perhaps some form of overlay is going to be needed because of how the laser blasts have been meddled with and the stars wiped out.

using the 97 SE means we've got something that is better color corrected and sharper than the OT LD. then use the minimal amount of OT LD footage to correct back to the OT cut.

taken as a whole that should then give us OT visuals with advanced sound fx.

I must repeat, Lowry had nothing to do with the colours. In another thread somewhere I have posted links to articles from Apple's and StarWars' official site where it is clearly stated all the colour work and effects, etc were done by LucasFilm, Lowry simply cleaned the film to make it practically free of dust, scratches, etc.
