I am not a troll ok I am a star wars fan like everyone else and if you don't like my opinions on anything star wars that's fine you don't have to agree with everything I say I don't expect you to. But enough of the name calling please enough is enough.

That is fine with us all.  What you've failed to realise for pages upon pages is that YOU do not seem to be fine with other people's opinions when they differ from yours.

If moving forward you can accept others opinions, likewise they also accept yours, then there should be no problems. That famous saying of "agree to disagree" and leave it at that.

And as you admit here, you support anything GL does. That's simply dogmatic and blind to reason. We're not people who dislike Star Wars. We're just honest people who aren't afraid of critiquing poor decisions.

We have no reason to defend or support anything GL does. Only those who wish to maintain an income at LFL do.

Why do some of you wine and complain every time GL makes a change to the films? He has a right to change his films sure some of them are not good you can't please everyone. Sure not everyone is not going to like the changes but it the changes don't take away my enjoyment of the films.

OK, I promised myself to keep quiet, but after some decent adult attempts to make serious comments towards this person in an attempt to help them realise the problem with the majority of their posts, to then post this tells me one of two things:

1/ This guy is a troll plain and simple, or

2/ He is a young child, or an adult with the mind of a child.

Either way I ask the mods step in here, because I'm sick of seeing what this thread has become.

Just the same crap on every page going back and forth.  Mods please pull out the big stick and clean up this thread.

zombie or someone with "insiders", is it worth reaching out to Robert Harris?

He's said on many occasions he knows of prints out there that are in great condition for a restoration.  Now this man is respected and well connected and has worked on some of the most important films.

Surely what he spoke of isn't these we speak of in this thread? I'm kind of hoping the ones he knows of are in private collectors we don't of, hence Fox and Lucas don't know of. Damn I wish I was loaded, I'd fund RAH to do the restoration secretly.

FFS!

All that's left is for Lucas to hold a media conference promoting the BD release, and then he pulls a Steve Jobs-like "one more thing" but instead of good news, he holds up reels of the OCN and prints of the theatrical releases and dumps them into a fire barrel.

The man is not an artist, he's without a doubt an insecure small, petty man.

Ok guys, you can burn me at the stake, but if George inserted this into the OUT as the only change to the theatrical ROTJ, I'd be all for it. :P

Very well done by the original creator.  Would love to know how long it took from start to finish.

I'm not quite sure what Danny_boy is saying, but it is quite absurd to say that the 1982 VHS is a faithful guage of the quality of seeing the film in theatre, in terms of resolution.

I'll translate...he hasn't got a single clue and is making uneducated guesses and incorrect assumptions upon assumptions.  Let him try and sell that notion over at HTF and the likes of RAH will kindly ask him to be quiet while adults are speaking.

And I don't mean just Star Wars specifically...but any movie older than the last 20 years. Many of their initial prints looked more brilliant back then, than a lot of prints of movies I see these days.

Wow! Someone tell Robert Harris over at HTF that looks like we have a title contender for the Blu-ray release of "Patton", who up until now had to be the most wax-works looking P.o.S. ever!

Back then there was no Twitter of FB. I strongly believe that's the main reason so many people now know what crap the box set is before buying it.

Just imagine what it would have been like if Twitter (and overall number of people using the internet) existed back in May 1999 or in 97 - I imagine the backlash against Lucas would have been even worse than it is now.

I immediately thought this too.  YouTube came the following year, and it wasn't really until the last few years that it's in Joe Public's face, as of course is Twitter and Facebook.

A little ironic how the latest changes in tech is having an effect on Lucas' changes in his classic movies.

Alright, that's it. I'm no longer a Star Wars fan. I just can't take this abuse any longer.

Have fun, Lucas.

Thanks for this ^ saves me from doing it.

After reading multiple pages, and watching and listening to the leaked clips...I can't call myself a Star Wars fan anymore. Because if I do, people will think I like THESE movies. These same movies that are now beyond terrible, worse than the minor changes made in 1997, and will only get worse with every re-release.

I'm reading "The Secret History of Star Wars" at the moment, and it's confirming what I always knew even from young.  George Lucas was not responsible for any of the original trilogy's success, and deserves no success of any kind.

He's not an artist...he's a man with many psychological issues.  It's clearly evident, he developed some form of psychosis while making them, leading him to always feel like "they were never finished".   No true artist defames their work in this manner. This is like what marauders do to the artefacts or treasured possessions of a civilisation they invade and destroy. And no I'm not being a geeky fanboy here, I'm speaking from the perspective that cinema and film is an artform, and Lucas has no respect for it.  We always knew this, but this is as about as low one can get before adding in CGI scenes of digital Mark Hamill or Harrison Ford in future releases....I'm sure that's coming.

Further more, he's not surrounding himself by "yes men", but pigs like him who'll happily assist in destroying art for their own personal gains. i.e. Those wankers who were in charge of re-doing the audio tracks and put themselves in it so they can claim they're "in" every Star Wars movie.

So sad right now....

I'd say it was rather stupid doing the color correction BEFORE having Lowry clean up and restore the image. If they did it the other way around, they could always go back to the original color (on the cleaned-up master), and make a new color-correction from there. Now, once they want to change the color-timing considerably (and most importantly fix the crushed blacks), Lowry would have to re-do their clean-up as well, I guess.

Short-sighted and incompetent...

Yeah I think that says it all.

The fact George ignores and likely hates the OUT theatrical releases, is what leads to his downfall, that and stupidity in decision making.

If he was to release the movies we all want, you would do what anyone does.  Go back to the OCN.  if that isn't an option, you go to the next best option etc, like they do when restoring all old movies, whether that be prints, seperation masters, or IPs or whatever.

Instead, because HIS versions are forked from what was released in 1997, they need to keep building from there as their starting point.  Then on top of that, they decide to do things backwards, and also cheat and do things in house.

I don't like people bashing Lowry digital. They do nothing wrong.  Even though I hated what I saw on the colours of some of the Bond movies, like all their work, the people who make the final decision are the filmakers etc, not Lowry.  They are the ones who rubber stamp and say "i'm happy with that".

The fact they allow and permit these new audio guys to make creative changes is a joke.  But again this just stems from George's need to change things.

I'm so tired of this subject. lol

Well the audio is definitely screwed, lot's of pops and clicks at least twice. As far as his voice goes, it sounds like it's had a few filters applied to it.

Let's hope this is just in this Youtube video.

The Best on Blu-ray: Restoring the Star Wars Saga for the HD Generation

More Lucas revisionist history.

"Some of the issues come from these movies being finished for film and projected for film, and that's how people saw them. A lot of things that look a little different on HD or DVD are really the nature of how video treats color space," explains Huebler. A dramatic example of this came up in the 2004 DVD release, with the dimming of the lightsaber cores throughout the trilogy, even to the point where Luke's lightsaber aboard the Millennium Falcon shifted from blue to green in Episode IV.

*eyeroll*

WOW!! Just WOW!!!

This to me, is the equivalent of 7 years ago, when they said the audio channels being reversed and drowned down was a creative decision.

I'd love to get this quote across the desk of Robert Harris or any respected film archivist and restorer.  I expect their response would be one sweet quote...along the lines of: "Tell this boy to be quiet, adults are trying to work" :P

In every early instance of Star Wars I saw that scene on the Falcon Luke's saber was argually closer to just white more than any other color, and very untidy a beam.  That green crap we saw in 2004 was all brand new.

Morons....what utter morons!!! All they do is disrespect themselves and their own crappy reputations by spinning some lies and garbage.

OK, if I'm reading the last few pages correctly, it seems they have completely recreated the audio tracks, from what they claim is the original stuff piece by piece (sounds insane to me, as the room for error is massive), and where they couldn't find it, they've "improvised".

I've listened to this clip about 10 times, and although I'm at work and so cannot compare to GOUT or older true sources, something sounds wrong, when Lando comes from saying "...if we're coming" <gap> "break off the attack...".

What I've marked as <gap>.....I don't know...just doesn't seem right to me.

New video posted on the official Star Wars site showing a behind the scenes look at the X-Wing and then large section of video of the fighters approaching the death Star in EPIV. . It does look like there has been some tinkering with the colour as the cyan tint seems to have gone and it seems lighter, but those damn pink/ magenta engines just make me cringe ( a bloody SE change so they would match the bodged CG shots) instead of red and the crushed blacks are still the same..  Now you can guarantee that there will still be some who say that this clip isn't what we are going to get on the Blu-Ray, well why the hell would they post an old video to promote the blu-ray so close to the release date? Not only that, if you listen to the soundtrack, that IS NOT THE 2004 MIX

STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY/ EPIV/ X-WING

Sure is, Williams' score is a lot more prominent than the 2004 DVDs.

Anyone remember was it Sansweet or someone similar claiming that there was no error at that bit of the film, and was ALL intentional, yet the French mix was as per all the previous releases.  And now it seems likely that they've gone and fixed what wasn't "broken".

As always glad it's fixed, if indeed fixed, annoyed of the obvious 2004 BS.

It is true that the transfer that contains that glitch is indeed worth complaining about, but not because of the glitch!  The glitch is just an identifying mark that proves that the upcoming blu-rays are based on that particular, very poor transfer.

I think the biggest issue that occurs all the time is that many of the more mature people here are labelled as Star Wars, geek, fan-boy, wackos, that are just obsessed with hating Lucas and Lucasfilm for releasing the movies in a manner than displeases us, at so many other sites or even media articles that reference this site.

While the truth is, many if not most, are simple film afficiandos that demand quality releases of any film, but especially some of the most important works of film art, in this case Star Wars.

When it comes to childish wankers like that guy on Amazon, or other PR bullsh*t artists coming out of Lucasfilm, it's best we don't feed such trolls, and simply call out the poor release from a film fan perspective, not a Star Wars one.

I would simply ignore anyone who does not recognise that what's been discovered as unreputed evidence that the same 2004 master is being used, as they're clearly deluded.  That's like saying the green saber in ANH 2004 DVD was caused by my miscalibrated TV...um on, it was green!

The only exception being that for some crazy reason, they really aren't showing the new Blu-ray in that PR booth thingy, which once more wouldn't surprise me.  However coming to learn that Lucasfilm has no desire to ever release anything they own correctly, I am fully expecting that once this set is released, we'll get our proof.

Do not alter the film or its aesthetic. Just restore it.

Removing grain and fixing matte lines is altering the aesthetic of the film and fixing matte lines is altering both the aesthetic and content of the film. Dirt and scratches are instances of foreign objects attaching themselves to the film and damage to the film, and therefore should be removed.

The three original audio soundtracks of 1977 should be included, as they are all equally unique and as much a part of the film as it's original image is.

That's all I would want. No DNR, no updates of the special effects, no new mixes, no nothing. Just a classical restoration.

Totally agree.  Examples would be what RAH did with Lawrence of Arabia and The Godfather.  The removal of foreign particles/damage attached to the film, and getting the colors to as close as the original projection.  That is what film restoration is about.
