alrighty, thanks.
alrighty, thanks.
I get a prize right?
I'll say it again, this really does look great. I actually feel genuinely interested in those flashbacks.
When I read the thread title my first thought was "so you're going to try and pass off the DVD version as a fanedit eh?" ;)
Which reminds me of how I'd considered doing a fanedit that claims to "remove all of the offensive tripe about the prequels" and have the result be just the title followed by the credits.
You'd be surprised at how many touring musicians, people with followings, full-length albums, record deals, etc. Barely make a middle class living off of their music. Most are lucky to get that even, there are plenty of established bands that still have to work second jobs.
The giant super-rich rockstar is a very extreme minority, really.
Chainsaw Ash, would you mind if I just take a shot at recreating some similar covers to yours? Until you or someone else can re-upload them or something that is.
Indeed, it's completely ridiculous. I seriously doubt that this kind of DRM enforcement is even needed, aren't you still hearing about films shattering box office records every year or two? The film industry isn't in ANY financial danger.

For people who are so opposed to a "PT Free" environment, let me ask: Why does a kid need to see the PT? Why, of the thousands of entertainments that xhonzi's, mine, or any kid, might enjoy and yet will never see, does the PT hold some important rank?
In reality I wouldn't be going out of my way to show my children the PT, but I certainly won't lose any sleep over it if they see it on TV, at a friend's house, or even notice it at the store or something and decide they want to see it. Doesn't sound all that different from your viewpoint does it?
The thing with the lightsaber dremeling, is that it seems that he's not doing it so much to give his kids a "cooler toy" as it is that he's doing it to prevent his kids from being aware that somewhere somehow Yoda has a lightsaber. I doubt the kid asked him to dremel off that lightsaber. (See here I go assuming again.)
Perhaps our viewpoints are closer than we think. However, I just don't see anything Xhonzi has said or done to be somehow shocking, or in need of 'perspective.'
And we'll have to agree to disagree about the toy. Because you're wrong and it's teh awesome!
Well that's a perfectly satisfying response for me then. Consider my participation in this thread over. :)
If I'm just watching the original films, I just watch the official GOUT. My tv is 4:3 anyhow so the non-anamorphic doesn't bug me too much.
If I'm watching the prequels, it's generally going to be Phantom Edit, Attack of the Phantom, and Spence's ROTS edit. I've seen Stankpac's ROTS edit, but I still prefer Spence's. I guess it might have to do with how Stankpac's feels a little TOO trimmed down to me, maybe.
When I am in the mood to watch all 6 together, it's usually the above followed by ANH Revisited, and then I don't know... never actually watched all 6 at once.

If someone said "I will never show my kid the animated 3 Stooges cartoons!" would there be this outcry?
Why do you believe that being opposed to shielding your kids from the PT = actively making them watch the PT?
I think the big issue here is that most of us are making a LOT of assumptions about each other's viewpoints.

Man I'd always wanted an actual darth vader mask as a kid
Yeah, I feel bad for anyone who watches the whole series for the first time as 1 2 3 4 5 6.
The Vader twist is ruined, the Yoda twist is ruined, the Luke/Leia twist is ruined, etc etc. I really don't think Lucas has thought the 1-6 being "the order you're supposed to watch them in" thing through.
Obi-Wan doesn't necessarily have to be the villian to have killed luke's father.
Yeah wow, that clip is way better than I could've imagined.
Now that's an interesting idea.
I think Lucas might've been thinking about that element with ROTS. I mean Obi Wan did leave Anakin with his limbs all chopped off burning to death, that's pretty close to having killed him...
Well you sometimes make points that could be summed up in a sentence or two as opposed to a paragraph or two. It kind of seems like you type as the thoughts come to you.
Plus when you act condescending, it doesn't do much for your persuasiveness. You might be more effective at getting your points across if you acted a bit more respectful towards folk.
I'm kind of rambling myself here, but yeah, just sayin'.
I don't know how relevant it is, but when it comes to the prequels reframing the original films, it just doesn't happen for me. The drastic stylistic and visual differences between the PT and OT make it really hard for me to even think of them as taking place in the same universe. I have to actually actively frame it in my mind to view the OT from that perspective.

Would twooffour actually being a parent have really changed whether his thoughts on the idea of refusing to allow your children to see things based on your opinion of them are valid or not?
I think it could, theoretically. Having a child and interacting with that child on a daily basis changes a lot of your views on things, and not all these things are "serious parenting issues."
xhonzi's decision is a parenting issue, no matter how minor the issue may be (to you or him). He's not dealing with another adult. To call his parenting decision absurd is condescending, insulting, and frankly....absurd.
Really, is there any way to contest his parenting decision that wouldn't come across as insulting or condescending?
I don't intend to sound like a jerk about it, but that's really how it looks to me.
Look, I understand the motivation, you want your children to appreciate the things you grew up with. The OT was obviously a huge part of xhonzi's childhood, and I can totally understand him wanting his children to experience them the way he did.
But when you go to such lengths as dremeling off the lightsaber on a Republic Heroes Yoda toy, I think it's worth taking a moment to step back and get some perspective.
Couldn't you criticize the retconning and reframing of any movie that has sequels?
Would twooffour actually being a parent have really changed whether his thoughts on the idea of refusing to allow your children to see things based on your opinion of them are valid or not? Whether he's actually a parent I think is irrelevant, for this particular situation at least.
His overly-lengthy and mostly condescending tone aside, I agree with twooffour. Shielding your kids from certain movies and shows just because you don't like them is just completely absurd.
I'd rather RLM move away from Star Wars for now honestly. Maybe do the Matrix sequels or something.
How much do you actually know about the paranormal and/or the occult?
Shh I have great taste!
My favorite films are Highlander 2 and Superhero Movie!
I felt that it always made sense for the Jedi to have wierd, kinda exotic "asiany" names, since they were pretty much made out to be space samurai. Names like Mace Windu and Qui-Gon Jinn work because of that.
Dooku just sounds stupid though.
I saw a lot of shitty movies and TV shows as a child. Didn't stop me from appreciating good ones later in life.
Besides, sounds to me like his kids already have plenty an appreciation for the original films.
