awesome. what changes do you plan to make?

No creative changes. But I plan to apply an EQ setting I developed throughout the whole film (except where Battle Of the Heroes plays, because obviously that would make it sound wierd...), remove most dialogue from the 2004 mix and replace it with dialogue from the 1993 laserdiscs with some slight (and non crippling) noise reduction applied, as not only do they sound better in places and adequate overall, but the sound will be more consistent, as opposed to the 2004 mix which sloppily pieces dialogue together from a number of different sources. If you guys are really interested in these I am thinking of posting a preview for the scene in the trash compactor, as the audio from that section is pretty bad originally.

I know this is a silly question and you can not give direct links but does any one know how I can get a copy of STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED by ADYWAN I have checked torrents but they are long out dated with no seeds, have been looking at the visual comparisons and think its amazing can any one help me obtain a copy of this fantastic looking release????

Are you kidding? There's plenty of torrents around that are still alive.

ADigitalMan's Guide to MPEG2/AC3 Editing

In case you need to do ac3 editing beyond cutting the whole thing (such as muting a line but keeping the sound effects) the FREEWARE and excellent program Audacity now has full 5.1 ac3 support. No more hypercube transcoder and then wav to ac3 again, you can now just demux the ac3, edit in audacity, save and mux back again. I reccomend this, I've been using audacity for years for other audio, and now it has ac3.

Cool. Looking forward to the result.

Thanks for the support :)

Do you think this project should get it's own topic? I'm not sure, and also about distribution... I'm not going to be changing the video in any way and the sync will stay the same so I think I will just upload an ac3 somewhere and let people mux it themselves... should be easy enough with a program like Nandub.

Interesting. I'm a little surprised nobody mentioned it during the making of Revisited, or that if they did, Ady didn't do anything about it. Ah well- if someone can do something about it, kudos to them. I'm ok with the current version. :P

I'm going to do it... as well as working on the full soundtrack to make it sound less like it was recorded in a trash can with good acoustics.

Someone could completely remaster ANH's audio, to remove that tinny sound it has and make the dialougue flow better. (not from an acting perspective I mean, from a quality. It's obvious that TONS of lines are pulled from different sources because of varying background fuzz and eq settings between lines). You could pull most dialougue from a consistent source. I'm actually embarking on a project like this, and am tinkering with EQ to remove the tinny sound.

Also I would just like to clarify that the issue with dialogue and quality is not a fault of adywan's, but the 2004 DVD mix.

Or rather the fact that due to it being a DVD, for the first time we can actually hear the quality differences. Correct me if I'm wrong. :P

No, the pcm stereo of the 1993 laserdiscs sounds alot better.

Isn't the PCM stereo of the 1993 mix pretty good? Or even '97? Did they really gain much more clarity by attempting to use as many higher generation generation sources that were poorly mixed together.

Exactly. That's what I will be doing. I think my process is going to be to take the pcm stereo track of the 1993 mix, do a Pro Logic II upmix (just to somewhat isolate the voice) and use it for most of the dialogue because it sounds just fine, and better in some places even. (compare "Absoloutly your worship" from the garbage scene in those two mixes and it's amazing how much better the 1993 mix is) and then place the new dialogue in the 2004 dvd mix (making sure it all syncs up of course) and then further restore the audio as a whole. I found a good eq setting today that lowering the mid's, SLIGHTLY boosting the high's and lows does wonders to get rid of that tinny sound.

This may have been covered before, but actually it is possible to crossfade ac3 in womble. Just not automatically. (as in you can't just hit a fade button).

You just load 2 tracks that overlap in Womble, use the point audio editor, have one fade out and the other fade in overlapping. Sorry this isn't a very detailed explanation, but I'm sure anyone who is willing to do this is capable of figuring it out.

Help Wanted: Original Scores - Resquest for the RSO SW & ESB 2-LP VYNIL SETS audio form for remastering work (completed in March 2009)

I have all three of those, and they are all in very good condition, nearly without noise or crackle and good clarity. Are you doing this to try and recreate the sequence of this? If so I think you would be better placed to find any rip of these you can, and use the digitally remastered complete scores and edit it to fit the sequence of the LP's this way. PM me, I'll see if I can rip them for you anyway.

Could someone post the histograms again? All the links are dead. Since this project seems to have died, I'd just like to briefly colour correct it to an extent to tide me over until Ady's gets released.

https://download.yousendit.com/bVlBUGhhUEMrV3pIRGc9PQ

This edit has been done for somewhere around three years. I'm doing in HD after I'm done with Star Wars and after I've finished Trooperman's edit. Adywan's AVC HD Empire Strikes Back was posted on demonoid a month ago. I'll decide what projects I'm working on and when. Thanks for your concern.

Oh, I didn't know it was done... but I couldn't find it anyway. And I only have a dvd player and single layer dvd's so I couldn't use Adywans AVC HD empire.

But thanks for the histogram!

Hey, is the torrent I found of the Episode V 1997 Special Edition colour corrected by Ady actually real? While I am very interested in this project, I would still like to have a colour corrected version to tide me over in the mean time. But I have it downloaded, and I try to shrink with DVDShrink and it won't let me, something about a UDF File system error.

it is real but it isn't a standard DVD so DVDshrink won't work with it. It is a AVCHD which is the hi-def 1080p version playable in the PS3 & bluray players and not playable in standard dvd players. It uses the udf 2.50 filesystem so you neeed the driver installed to be able to browse the disc

I see, and if I install the driver is it possible to shrink it down to a single layer dvd size?

And also great work by the way, can't wait until you get it done Ady! But also take your time, as A New Hope was brilliant and we should all hope this to follow it's success.
